so if I wanted to get a ps3 for this

    what ps3 should I get

I want one that can do backwards compatibility but apparently that software they had already spent money on developing was costing them money to put on their new machines? what was that

I would buy a PS3 for this if you haven't, wise choice.
As for backwards compat, good luck finding consoles out in the blue still capable of it. If its 20 or 60 you got yourself a winner.
If you look hard enough on the internet, I bet you could find some of those MGS consoles.

I actually just rebought a PS2. I hate it, I was expecting it to be gone, but I waited too long to get on the sony train.

Yeah most PS3's out now won't be BC. If you definately need BC I'd say go to Ebay or something and get a 60GB or a 20GB original system.

Anyway as the previous poster said, this game is definately worth getting a PS3 for, its incredible.

I have a slim ps2 but the part that kills me is the memory cards and constantly losing them. my friends system with BC is great because he can upload all of his saves onto the 60gig harddrive and use them from there

Yeah the virtual memory cards are good. I have a 60gb myself and have used to it to play through many old PS2 and PS1 games. If you can get one of these systems it would definately be your best bet.

Wow they still cost that much? Jeez...I gave my last one away not so long back to my nextdoor neighbour who still only has a PS2.

But seriously man, back on topic, Valkyria Chronicles is WAY worth getting a PS3 for. I am going to finish it either today or tommorow hopefully, and I can't stop thinking of it, it's so damn good.

I've only owned one ps2 8gb memory card and I've never really had any issues with space on it. I guess you never deleted anything on it? (Or you probably played a hell of a lot more ps2 games than I. I was never a fan of the ps2, I thought it was underpowered and it didn't look as good as my dreamcast did on a vga monitor.)

Sorry for the double post, but I can't edit my posts currently.

I just thought I'd share in case anyone is interested, that I have just gotten an A rank first time round on Chapter 17, I surprised myself! lol
First turn, I did nothing at all. Then, 2nd turn round, I repaired the Edelweiss using Nadine (my fave engineer!). Anyway after that, I used the "Awaken All" order which I had just brought prior to the mission from the war cemetery. Then, I rushed in Yoko who got all sorts of abilites and stuff and started attacking the Lupus. This worked great so I brought in Largo and someone else, before finishing it off with 1 round from the Edelweiss. Then to my dismay the battle wasnt over, and in the 3rd turn I hit it once with Yoko from the back and it blew up in one!

All round awesomness anyway, and tommorow will be the big day for me when I take on the "Finale", chapter 18. Part of me can't wait to beat it, but deep inside I don't want it to end!

okay I just gave Naggiar a spin

    what the fuck
I did everything perfectly up until Selvaria showed up

and then they beat the hell out of the Edelweiss the first turn it's on the field and take out its treads and there doesn't seem to be any way to stop it, and it's easy pickings for Selvaria the next chance she gets

I dunno if it's cheap or if I was just incredibly unlucky

You know the base which you need to get to in order to stop the bombings?

Save that for last. Selvaria only appears after you have taken it.

Meanwhile, get rid of bases with a bunker in it.

    Cleanse the area of Imperials.

Also, there are holes to hide the tanks in. Basic strategy is shoot Selvaria with Anti-tank shells, hide in hole, wait till the next turn, repeat.

yeah I've figured that out now

I'm just super-pissed that you literally need to fail the mission once to beat it unless you're incredibly thorough/lucky

I found it to be pretty easy. Here's what I did:
Your forces are split into two teams - 4 on the left, and 4 on the right. On the left team, I had Wavy, Nancy, Largo, and, I believe, Rosie. On the right team, I had Alicia, Noce, Aika, and Vyce.

The key is to use the right team - the 'fast team' - to capture the lower-right base. It's actually pretty simple. Sweep Alicia and Noce all the way around to the far right, making sure you kill the enemy elite scout in your trench before going out into the open field. Once that's taken care of, make a bee-line to the enemy's trenches. If you're far enough to the right, the bunker guarding the base should only be able to get a few hits on Noce and Alicia as they move across the field.

Next, have those two capture that base. There are a few troopers around, but they shouldn't be a problem if you move wisely and check your corners. I found it to be one of the easier bases to capture in the entire game given how little resistance there is.

Now that the base is yours, make everyone except the two scouts on the left team retreat. Have them re-deploy at your new base. I discovered (by lucky accident) that the enemy will try sending an elite scout to capture your original left base. It's nothing a couple of scouts on defense can't handle, though.

Move everyone up to capture the middle base. This is pretty self-explanatory.

The key for the next stage of the battle is to not freak out about Selvaria. If you do things fast, she's mostly harmless (alas poor Zaka, I knew him well....).

The enemy's main base is lightly defended, with the exception of the heavy tank sitting next to the flag. But that's why SEGA invented Largo. Tents block the tank's line of site, so you can move Largo up the hill, and around the tents to get a 1-hit radiator kill. The rest of your squad can handle the rest and capture the base.

Doing it this way, I managed to complete the mission in ~5 turns, and come out of it with a B ranking. The level is designed to be played with speed in mind. Other than the bunkers, resistance is weak.

I did have to replay the mission once, which is the main complaint about the game that I have. There's no way to know, on the first play through, what kind of team you need to field, or even if there's enemy bunkers or turrets. You can't get a good look at the map until you deploy your forces.

I'm not talking about enemy troop placement. Obviously that should be a surprise. But it'd be nice to see how many ladders are in a level, or where non-movable enemy structures (again, like the bunkers) are.

    look I'm gonna be honest

I did a really bad job of deploying Largo and I should really learn to keep Lancers in reserve until I need them

if I'd had him at the enemy base camp I probably could have 4 turned it

I always deploy him, but usually leave him there. Lancers I deploy as needed, but...

I went accuracy build with the Edelweiss, so it can shoot radiators from across the field. So as long as it's moving, I rarely need lancers.

You should really have Largo, Alicia and Rosie on the field at all times. Even if you don't plan on using them, they give you an extra CP each just for being on the field. If you want to bring on a Lancer as reinforcements, you can always bring on a different one.

    I can now move on.

Last battle was a total bitch though.
I keep being afraid of Maxi one shotting edelweiss but when I drive up really close up to a wall in front of him he suddenly wouldn't attack me.

The game's logic is retarded sometimes.

    And fuck bloody armored towers.

For the armored towers I just positioned largo and an engi on the right tower. Cept cathren at base behind the edelweiss and sandbags to take out the far tower whenever it came up. And I had fressia and Rossie on the left tower to attack max or the middle weak towers.
Used Vyse and Alicia to assault max from the base side and Fressia and Rossie to pincer took him down preaty fast.

Also some nice additions from the ending are there abouts:
I loved how Ellet is the person who wrote the book, after she was married (Irene Ellet/Koller)

I also loved how Cordelia turned out to be Darcscen!

Alicia's Bakery looks so awesome, I would like sig of it but it would be a spoiler
