I currently have a WD3200BB 320gb HDD and I'd like to upgrade to a larger drive, such as Western Digital Caviar SE WD5000JBRTL, but the whole EIDE thing has thrown me. Does the WD5000JBRTL model use the same kind of connector as the WD3200BB model, as the Western Digital website indicates, or do they use different connectors (the IDE Ultra ATA100 part on the listing is throwing me)?
Well your 320GB drive is EIDE and the newer drive is Ultra ATA...basically UATA is a faster version of EIDE that *should* be backwards compatible. Do you have any mobo documentation or a model number or something so you can verify compatibilty? I'm 95% sure it will work, but for all I know you have some off-brand Chinese motherboard that doesn't allow for backwards compatibility.
And by "upgrade" I hope you mean add this drive to the system and keep the other one.
