Ipod shuffle (and general rechargeable) battery q

Having had an ipod battery drain quite nicely, I'd like to keep my new shuffle good for a while longer; Apple's website seems to indicate it doesn't make a difference if you do half-charges or nearly fully drain the battery before charging, but I figured I'd ask you guys if it makes a difference (other than maybe doing one full discharge-charge every once in a while). From checking, it appears it's some type of Lithium battery (see here)
