Gonna work something out so I can be a part of this. Currently working out some details with my sister but overall I'd be looking at getting on at LA since it seems that even thought I live in Pomona with a pretty decent sized AmTrak hub it doesn't even connect to LA. :|

So looks like I'll be getting a ride to LA and going from there. Unless there's an Amtrak hub near Pomona that connects to LA that I don't know about.

EDIT: Looks like I'll have everything wrapped up on Friday.

hey i live in Chino, and i'll be getting on in LA too, hi5

It's weird though. Pomona goes straight to Pasadena and stops there. :|
Haven't taken the train in a long time.

Also, I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be any issues with dropping someone's HD into another person's 360 and being able to access downloaded content.

We've been through this already, it's a DRM issue... Downloaded content is signed to the xbox it was downloaded on, and to the live account. If you move a hard drive to a different X-box it is no longer signed locally, so you have to be signed into live to be able to access it. Under most circumstances that's not a problem, but we'll be on a train accessing the internet through a cell phone network and it's going to go down at times.

Chances are, count me me in for LA + 1 friend!

If appliances are allowed, I'm down to do some legit cooking and food preparation. I can bring my industrial strength blender and make some killer smoothies / milkshakes / margaritas.

I'll be joining at San Francisco/Emeryville, +5 friends (possibly more?). Last year I supplied the 360 and two guitars, I'll happily do the same this year if needed, although it looks like the 360 situation will be settled much earlier in the train route this year, so I may not need to. I also have quite a bit of Rock Band DLC to contribute, at some point I'll have to compare tracks with Arikado (the only immediate request I'd make is "The Kill" by 30 Seconds To Mars... a perfect song for screaming your ass off ;)

Also, speaking from last year's Guitar Hero train experience, the kid's room "system" was woefully inadequate, with a single speaker on the poor excuse for a TV, and a single mono input into it. For some reason, my 360 wouldn't allow me to change my audio settings to mono (for some reason it was stuck on digital stereo i think?) so during our 2 player games we could only hear one player's notes! Consensus was that next year we not only desperately needed our own tv, but a much improved sound system. Just throwing it out there, to further encourage anyone who's on the fence about bringing said items.

As an aside, this pic happens to be the ppl in my group:
    gamers.jpg
I'm proud to see that my friends have been chosen as a somewhat iconic representation of true gamers on the PAX train :)
(Btw, I'm not pictured here, but my back does make a brief cameo as Guitar Hero player #1 in the PAX train promo video about 28 seconds in...)

Ok I live in San Bernadino/Riverside area (Im told Eelektrik lives close by, but he never says hello) and my response to getting to LA union station trainwise is this (brace yourself)

    Fuck Amtrak

Take the metrolink, they are a lot better about being on time and they run everywhere. Hell if you get on the metrolink by the fairplex you may find me before we even meet up with the main group. Just like darkblade did last year, and now we are bff! :P

In all seriousness take metrolink, its on time lots of room for luggage. That and its like 7 bucks one way. If your a really stingy asshole you may get away with not paying at all. I dont remember anyone checking my ticket last year.

Yeah, as I mentioned on the last page. Just the HD won't work since we aren't guaranteed to have internet up the whole way and without the original Xbox the downloads are tied to, it needs to be online to work.

Funny you should mention internet connection. Am i too late to throw in that i will have the ability to provide internet, wireless connectivity and possibly a 24 port switch for use?

Like Krux last year, i will have service through verizon available for pilaging. Difference for me though is its builit into my phone vs an actual card (still connects to a laptop and can be shared so difference is nill) and i will actually be on the train again this year. I wont lie, there are a few areas where there is no service and internet access will be unavailable (friggin air force base killing all signal), however much of the journey has cell service and as far as i what i gather, nearly all of it will support EVDO speeds. It should be relatively fast too as the more remote you get the more likely that you will get the most of your EVDO speed.

I am strongly considering taking the train from LA. Problem is that I live in Mississippi, so I'll have to fly into LAX the day before the train leaves. I'm trying to figure out what to do that night, since I don't want to get a hotel room. Can I sleep in the train station? Or is there a super duper cheaptastic motel near the train station? Also, how hard is it to get from the airport to the train station?

Just putting it out there, and I've said this before, but if anybody wanting to go on the WCTT that's flying into LAX to do so, you can stay in my apartment the night before if you need it to stay away from hotel/motel costs and whatever else. I'm driving to the train station anyway, so I can pick you up from the airport, I've got plenty of places to sleep, and I'm only about an hour away from the train station (in rush hour traffic, which will more than likely be the case). I've got room for 2, maaaaaaybe 3 (my car is not very big, so 4 people with lots of luggage might not fit).

I could also use the help with all of the crap I'm going to be bringing with me to add to the festivities. :P

Well the hotel is closer and we would be meeting up with our other roommates so we would be a group of 4 but we would have a car of our own to carry our own luggage but I am game if there is space for us to sleep.

I have something of a conundrum. I just so happen to have a Wii and Smash Bros that I wouldn't mind contributing to the cause and definitely plan on attending PAX. Problem is I live in Southern Arizona and even just getting to LA is going to be a pain in the wallet made more complicated by my not having a car of my own.

So... anyone running a car pool from Phoenix area to LA and have some spare room?

Dude, is there parking by your place? Because if so, I'd totally meet up with you that morning to help you pack stuff up and schlep it to the train station. Otherwise, i was gonna park my car in my neighborhood (west LA) and take the FlyWay.

He said he'd meet up with us that morning and carpool with us and help us carry stuff, not stay with us.

About the space though, I have a queen-size futon that's big enough for 2 (you can make a pillow wall if you're uncomfortable sleeping together :P), a recliner, a sumo bag, and then whatever floor space is left over. So, if it's you and 3 others, we can probably call it there as far as people staying with me.

I figure it's just for a night though, and collectively it'd probably save a good chunk of change as far as getting the group together beforehand and carpooling, not to mention the carpool lane (which if I'm not mistaken is 3 people during rush hour here, or that might just be on I10).

So yeah, I'm not going to fill my apartment to the brim with people. :)

I've been sick as a DOG recently, and working too so I haven't had as much time as I'd like to take care of PAX shit. That's why we're planning ahead - so we can take our time.

Transparent, believe me, I looked into the costs. Renting out a full train with private cars is expensive - hell renting a private car alone and having it hooked up to Amtrak's main car is like a hundred god damned grand.

For those of you considering waiting until you buy your tickets, you can always cancel your reservation and get your money back.

Reserving tickets now does charge your credit card, however. You can cancel up until like 3 days before the train leaves.

If you're considering getting a roomette, do it now, because they get more expensive. The return trip roomette is already $100 more than when I placed my reservation.

If you're too cheap for a cab, the bus is $1.50 after 7pm and free before.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metro_Transit_Tunnel

And since we're planning ahead so well, it is totally possible to arrange for Shuttle Express to be there waiting for us. It would cost less than $8 a person. Is that cheaper than the cabs?
