West Coast Train Trip 2008: Communist Edition
Posts
I mentioned it as well, and am hoping to get someone from that initiative on the show as well; but haven't sent out any PMs yet on the subject.
Look at my list of who is bringing what under the OP and you can see if anyone would already of brought what you would of onto the train. Boardgames and such will probably be a bit less common but if you got some good multiplayer games no one else is bringing let us know.
Or are all the stops the stations that people will be getting on at?
anyone have any info on this?
i live in tacoma, washington btw
Sounds good to me, especially if you plan on keep on grabbing everything when PAX comes around.
Amtrak got some plans with the Coast Starlight it seems.
Exclusive Amenities - Coming Soon
Beginning in mid-2008, rediscover the Coast Starlight. This legendary train will feature enhanced Coaches and Sleeping Cars, along with exclusive new amenities. The Dining Car will offer fresh, regional cuisine, while the Arcade Room will entertain kids of all ages with a great selection of arcade-style video games. Sleeping Car passengers can enjoy Happy Hour specials and a daily tasting of local wines in the refurbished Pacific Parlor Car, which also will offer a specialty coffee bar, onboard theater and alternative dining venue.
But where will we set up our consoles?

In-N-Out? :P
No one is bringing Street Fighter yet? Looks like an excuse to buy a copy for the SNES.
A lot of us would say that is a nice improvement to their menu.

Dude, I have a copy of Turbo for the snes I can bring, and now will bring, but I meant in the trains supposed, "Arcade Car."
Neat. I was thinking about lugging my 360 and Rock Band gear with me but I was shot down by my siblings who will not be at PAX. :P
Me and my friend are coming from Ashland.
we should get a little convoy going for the drive out there
I'm flying out to LA, spending a few days with some friends in the city, and then taking the train up to PAX with you fine folks. It should be an epic week! Will there be any other east coast people on the train?
I'm a (relativly) recent transplant. I'll be glad to chat about the Atlantic Ocean with you, should you get home sick or some such.
I just booked as well and I'm pretty much doing the same exact thing.
Flying from Philly to LA on the 24th, couple days with friends, then on the train! We should definitely reminisce about the joys of east coast living. It may help me retain my sanity on this insane adventure.
Non-alcoholic, Arizona Green Tea.
When you're on the train you'll figure out who I am real quick. I'm the guy constantly running around making sure everyone's A-OK and if anybody needs anything. I used to wear a distinguishable jean jacket but it's so beat up I retired it, so pick me out by my brown hat.
I want to organize a Los Angeles pre-PAX meetup! PM me if you're interested so we can work out the details... and figure out WHERE to meet. Geographically the best place is downtown LA. However, I don't feel comfortable going into downtown LA without a shotgun. I was thinking Huntington Beach, but I'm open to suggestions.
Update on the D&D game for the train: My buddy Jason, who will be running the game, will probably be doing it in 4th edition now. We're gonna run some "test games" to try it out.
Holy shit, we're at 90 people. Three months to PAX!
Which reminds me, I really need to get my train tickets for this. FUCK! Stupid vacation to Arkansas, making me forget things.
I am from Portland and I am trying to make sure I understand what is going on before booking tickets. I have a few questions:
1) I see your taking the Coastal Starlight #14 which according to Amtrak's website stops in Portland, but your saying to use the Cascade 500... Why?
2) The suggestion to take the Cascade 500 is also paired with the suggestion to take it the 28th, are people arriving Thursday, not Friday?
3) Being that this is my first PAX, how bummed am I going to be having to leave to catch the 5:30pm train Sunday? Are the last few hours amazing and unmissable?
Thanks!
-Gadi
1) The Coast Starlight didn't have a Portland stop last year and I have no idea when they added it into the schedule. I think we might have to double check if we can get the Portland Brigade to join as after all.
2) Yeah we aim for a Thursday arrival.
3) The big thing will be the final Omegathon round and maybe another panel depending on what time you plan to checkout and head to the station.
Holey crap. Thats awesome. Now that really does suck that I am going early.
Get the PAX 2008 Countdown widget and while away your sad, pathetic life watching it tick down the hours to PAX '08!
