So sue me, I can't be arsed to walk to the mall and back, so here goes.
Have downloaded and installed the downloading tool, click the link to d/l the game,
and get an error telling me that I need a flash plug-in, and tells me to go to the adobe site to get it.
So I do! But I still get the error when trying to download, which sucks. I've tried restarting, but beyond
that I have no idea. Help!

Do some googling for Flash Player Uninstaller (it's a tool from Adobe) that will completely wipe every last trace of the player from your drive, then install as normal.
That's the only error I know of that describes your issue.
Also, make sure you back up whatever you download in a memorable location. Those stupid fuckheads at EA decided to make their OWN directory on the root of the drive called "ProgramData" to store downloaded files in... wtf? It's easy to forget and pull your hair out trying to find it if you have to format for some reason.

EA customer service is quite possibly the most useless entity in existence.
