Awesome game, definitely get the wrench mod if you're playing it for the first time.

I found it to be rather "meh", but at $5 it's well worth it I guess.

    btw, COD4 is still $70 D:

I guess this offer isn't valid everywhere. I'm not able to even come close to purchasing this game. I live in Germany, I may not be able to take advantage of this.

Prey is awesome. Played it for the first time a week ago and it quickly became one of my favourite shooters; and this is despite having the most hokey premise ever conceived. Hell, I'm replaying it on Cherokee right now.

I'm not even sure Prey is worth $5 once you add on the time you have to spend playing it. Not that it was bad, it's just a complete nothing game that isn't worth the time it takes to boot up.

well I bought it Friday night. aside from a couple of odd graphical anomilies in the first level that seem to have gone away it's decent so far. Pretty average, I'll probably put it on the backburner and play it over the next few months when I'm bored of other stuff. Perfect for 5 bucks.

Only thing I really enjoyed about this game was listening to the jukebox in the beginning and playing the slot machines.

    Ooooooh, barracuda

Otherwise I found the game terribly boring and generic. Never completed it, just played through the first two stages and then I felt like I had seen enough.

yeah the 5 bucks is worth the first scene alone.

after that the game takes a Duke Nukem' ish turn towards mediocre town.

Yeah, Prey is worth it just to see "Don't Fear The Reaper" kick in during the intro.

It's not a superb game. It's extremely easy and you can't actually lose the game unless the power kicks off in your house or something. Regardless, I enjoyed it. It's average. Some of the stuff in it is pretty neat and not every game has to be perfect to be enjoyed. I would definitely say it's worth five dollars.

I mean it gets stupid and pointless very early on, and seems to rely heavily on characters that suck to push the story. *not that Duke sucks, but the story around him sure did.*

Oh, I'm sorry, you guys thought Duke Nukem' was well designed? playable arcade machines and strippers does not a good level make.

Exactly. I regret paying full price for it, especially since it went down to 19.99 quickly (maybe due to the fact it's not actually a game by my standards, you cannot die), but I don't regret playing it through. 5 dollars is a fair price for the enjoyment and playtime you'll get from Prey.

Prey is a pretty solid shooter, but the complete removal of any challenge is ridiculous. You can't even die on the final boss, which makes the whole thing feel pretty soulless really.

Seriously, I don't get the complaints about not being able to die. Prey's approach was extremely generous but there are a lot of games that just cut out the middleman and replace "death" with a small setback in-game, which is pretty much the same thing as loading the last save anyway. Then again, in a serious game like Prey it does sort of kill the suspense when you know that your character literally can not fail.

Anyway, Prey is a pretty medicore FPS. There's nothing outright bad about it, it's just nothing special. I got a copy for free, activated it on Steam for kicks and never played it. If you like just playing through shooters though $5 isn't a bad deal.

As stated above: The intro stage alone is worth the $5. I never beat the game though... And I own the special edition (I was a sucker for those things back in the day). I think I got to a part where you had to fly around and I couldn't figure out where to go... And just stopped.

The thing about the intro stage is, is that's exactly what you get in the demo for free.

I personally thought the game was a polished turd, sure it looked nice and the demo sucked me in enough to buy it, but then I find out there is no variety in the enemies, the weapons suck and the fact you can't die robs the game of any challenge.

Don't waste your money, just download the demo instead.

If you don't like the lack of death penalty, just do what I did with BioShock: Load your previous save game every time you "die". Some poor design decisions are easy to rectify.

Except the mechanics of Wario Land 2/3 are based around this, as a puzzle/exploration game.
Prey is your average FPS, but with a tacked-on "no death" system.

Prey is so totally worth $5 it's not like it's really shitty game it's just not very good. But it has it's moments like seeing what happens to people, hearing the Coast to Coast broadcasts, the gravity changing rooms. I mean it's $5 fuck I'd buy pretty shitty games for that much, like Earth Defense Force or Dynasty Warriors: Gundam.

Prey's alright if you keep your expectations low and have a thing for fictional Native American lore.

The multiplayer is amazingly fun. fast paced and people on ceilings and walls and everywhere.... I cant image multiplayer with that wrench mod, can you say portal trap? Amazing for lans....

The singleplayer is just barely worth playing, the vehicle parts are awful.weapons range from really cool to abysmal (their version of the shotgun.... its kind of like the UT slime gun and its useless, however the modular gun is pretty cool). Some of the puzzles which require using more then one dimension and changing gravity are neat.

I dont hear anyone complaining about not being able to die in bioshock, or other games that had that feature, at least they tried to do something with their game besides the antiquated system that old designers used to make you try and punch more quarters into a machine when its no longer necessary.

I think I have a rule now to not buy games where the enemies look like they are made of shiny plastic. Especially ones that only cost 5 dollars.

Seriously, what happened in 3D gaming where art directors decided ultra-shiny reflective shit everywhere conveyed anything but "really fucking fake".

    I'm looking at you, Vanguard.

This makes we want to fire up an LP of Duke Nukem 3d. Time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum.

On Topic now, Prey for 5 dollars isn't too bad. It's a decent romp when you have spare gaming time. That is spare time of your gaming time.
