I dunno, I kinda like PBR. It's sorta like a less-haxy Battle Tower that lets you get TMs faster, once you've invested some time.
Yeah, I think PBR sucks ass.
But it's my most played Wii game to date Thank God Brawl WILL change that.
Obligatory making fun of Rockin for not having Brawl yet (just kidding).
Really, there's no reason why Nintendo didn't put real random online battles in DP (outside of Nintendo wanting to whore out Pokemon even more than it already has been, of course).
The concept of breeding for a specific Power/Type Hidden Power just makes my brain hurt. I just check what I end up breeding, and if any of them have a useful Hidden Power and good IVs, I might take them. Might.
Edit: I have a Weavile that would, if I taught it Hidden Power, have HP Ice at power 70. How's that for useless?

Took me the better part of a years worth of hour long lunch breaks to breed two pokemon. TWO. It's insanity.
I've never managed to actually build a team of six pokes or battle another human
I'm going to manage it this time though! I've got...4 pokes that will be 'okay', nothing great but useable. In another 2 or 3 months I'll have gotten round to breeding the other two.
Not that I spend that long on it, I've just got too much work to do.

If they have a nice one, and they're a special sweeper, and I'm stuck for another move? Sure, I'll use HP.
But no way in hell am I breeding for one. Smogon seems to give IV spreads for haxing^H^H^H^H^H^H breeding the perfect Hidden Power for some Pokémon, too. This makes me >:|
BLEH. I effing HATE IV breeding genderless Pokemon. I am THIS close to saying fuck it and using my specimen with dual 31s in special attack and speed, but craptastic defenses and a somewhat suboptimal nature.
I was working with a version with the proper nature, but I accidentally saved and now I have a specimen with just the 31 in special attack, and a pretty meh 21 in speed. WTF, it didn't inherit the 31, it just randomly generated a freaking 21 which appeared exactly the same in my preliminary check.
Man I think I will do some teams on shoddy/netbattle? for awhile. Because if I'm going to go through the excruciating process of making another team, it's going to be greatest fucking team ever.
Would someone please let me in on this whole Bidoof thing? I mean, he is on the uber tier of HM slaves along with Psyduck, Tropius, and Mew, but did someone find an actual use for him.

So it's gonna be six Bidoofs, right? Right?
Edit: 12 more levels until I can get back into battling. Should be done by tomorrow or Wednesday (there's Crisis Core, Warhawk, and Brawl to be played, after all).
Bidoof is such a trash Pokemon. At least Rattata was an easy target that died in a couple of hits and put up a fight. Bidoof is all BIDE, DEFENSE CURL, GROWL and so on.
That said, 6 Bidoofs would force the opponent to age rapidly.
That happiness poketch app. Does it show you when your pokemon is at its maximum level of hate and resentment? Or do you just have to gauge it by how hard it bites you when you let it out of the ball?
Don't worry about IVs! They're a total non-issue on your first playthrough.
(Also, it's only Chen that really goes hardcore for awesome IVs. Most of us settle for 'good' ones.)
You should visit Smogon and check their stuff out. Mine pale in comparison. Some pokes offered there are so good that I wonder how much time they've invested in it, the amount of luck they received or whether they've cheated in some way, like using fast hatching methods.
There's a Gyarados on Smogon that has 31s in every stat except one which is 30, and the owner still isn't content with it! My Gyarados only has an Atk IV of 20, but I kept and trained it anyway because its HP, Def, SpD and Spd were excellent. Plus, it was one of my very first projects as a competitive breeder.
Also, I reckon Ashton and Aggril are pretty hardcore breeders. I know for a fact that one of his pokes has a very useful Hidden Power that wrecked my unsuspecting tank once.

Man, I couldn't be bothered to IV train outside of that one Magby that ended up with a max Hidden Power Ice, and it turned out to be Serious, so the bonus from the IVs didn't really amount to much with a neutral nature.
Man, if I knew how to IV train, I'd be on like Donkey Kong. That'd be really cool. Pushing the Poké beyond its EV limits and make 31 IVs in speed easier to get.
The Smogon people scare me. They go into Hidden Power breeding like normal people would go after egg moves. 'Yeah, well, it has to have a Special Attack of 30, but if its Hidden Power isn't Fighting I'm not interested'. Though, Chen, I know for a fact at least a few of them use the 'fast hatching' cheat. While some people may say that fast hatching isn't really that 'big' a cheat, you try and see how much time you waste hatching all those eggs. ALL OF THEM!
Aside from things like speed on my sweepers and certain hit point totals for my tanks, I don't get horribly bent out of shape over IVs. My Weavile was a lucky fluke, having perfect IVs in his attack and speed. There's also my Tentacool that was quad-flawless, but the two non perfect ones were in its special defense and speed (which, er, were the two things I was aiming for..).
*edit1* Ok, I'm going to go grinding toward the next gym, but I'll watch the thread if anyone wants to play. Mostly, I just want to try out this newfangled Why-Fie thing.
*edit2* Congratulations! Your Flippy evolved into a Gyarados!
*edit3* WTH? This guy wants me to bring him a Turtwig? It's an effing starter, I can't get one without trading. :P
Sorry Houn, I had assumed no one was around so I went off to do other things. I would be hard pressed to find a team that would be a fairfight for an Un-Ev'd play-through team. I'd offer to play you with my play-through team, but there was a Mewtwo in that one.
The good news is, so far tonight, I've evolved a Gyarados, and my Luxio finally learned an Elec move, so I can counter Water.
I'm thinking I could still use a good Grass pokemon, though, and maybe a stronger Water poke. I also kinda want to try for a Pikachu with Volt Tackle eventually, but I'm pretty sure I can catch a Pikachu in D/P.
Any recommendations on Water and Grass pokes to look for?
Good Water Pokémon: Buizel, Staryu, to some degree Tentacool. Oh, and Gyarados. Not sure if Starmie's available before the Elite 4, though.
Good Grass Pokémon: Budew (evolved to at least Roselia), uh... um. I suppose Oddish isn't that bad once it evolves, maybe? I still like the Treeko line for Grass types, or I just get a Pokémon that can learn a Grass move like Energy Ball or something. Turtwig's totally sweet, especially if you breed it to get Seed Bomb. Or Wood Hammer, if you don't mind recoil moves.
I'm training up a Gastly to Haunter so I have a trump card when I take on the Fighting gym. So far I have my Meditite and Staravia. Along with Prinlup having Peck, I should be ok for the most part. Rest of my team is rounded out with Ponyta and Luxio.
EDIT: Hell, once I get my USB thingo, I'll be looking to get him to Gengar with a pair of trades.
Oh yeah, I hit the fighting gym today. I've got nothing strong against Flying or Psychic trained. Guess I'll be spending some time with my underleveled Starly and Unown...
Also, why does it take like, 6 pokeballs to catach anything over level 5?
*edit* Oh, wait, I assumed Unown was psychic, but it's not. Oh well. Go waste six pokeballs catching an abra, perhaps?
The Fighting gym would be owned by a decent Starly.
As for the other starters, just ask, man. Give us a list of the ones you want, someone should be able to breed you up a set, then trade them to you for Bidoofs called DURRRRR and other similar things. I'm especially partial to Bidoofs named DURRRRR.
Also, if you do want to get them from other PAers, either give a list of the names you want, or ask for eggs so that you can hatch them yourself. Bear in mind that if you get ones that are pre-hatched, you won't be able to change their names, and once they get to a certain level, they'll ignore you. Of course, as you gain more gym badges, they'll start obeying you again, but hey.

I'm not sure what I have to offer, other than eevees or maybe some heart scales.

How long does it take to hatch eggs? I've been carrying around this one I got in Heathome for awhile now, and it's still "not close to hatching". I don't mind hatching eggs, though. And I'd be willing to trade anything I can get my hands on. What do you guys want in return for, say, a Turtwig to start?

The best way to hatch an egg.
The day care town (solacene or something); get your bike and stand on the right most part of the dirt path.
Now, assuming you've taken our a couple trainers, which you probably have, you can ride way down, and way up.
I think the step counter showed me 125 steps one-way, which takes roughly 10 seconds to do.
So, 750 steps per minute, and the max steps to hatch an egg is 10,000 or something. So a little over 10 minutes of riding with get you that.
UNLESS! you have a magmar or slugma (or their evos) because them being first in your party halves the steps it takes to hatch an egg.
Hatching eggs can be annoying. The best place is -actually- the Cycling Road, but I usually do it at the Solaceon Town area described above. On the Cycling Road, go all the way to the right, then one step to the left, and you have a clear ride up and down, apart from when some guy occasionally drives his bike in front of you. The thing is, you only have to hold down the controller as you're cycling up, as you freewheel down towards Oreburgh, which is awesome.
I hatch eggs while watching a movie or something on TV.
I'd ask for some Heart Scales in return, or if you have an overspill of Evolution stones (water, fire, etc) I would take them, but I wouldn't ask for them. They take ages to find in the Underground, after all. I'd say one Heart Scale or Evo stone per three starters.
Fire Starters: Charmander, Quilava, Torchic, Chimchar.
Water Starters: Squirtle, Totodile, Mudkip, Piplup.
Grass Starters: Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Treecko, Turtwig.
Kay, if you can get me a Turtwig egg, I'll spend today looking for an Evo Stone or a Heart Scale. I won't have WiFi Access until around 7pm Pacific at the earliest, though, unless I can get the company Wifi keys off someone.
