Hey guys I was wondering if you can critique my team. Basically my friend has been talking a lot of shit so I need a pretty decent team to beat him. I've already beat him using the rattata strategy but now I have to battle him for real. Are there any other funny strategies like that? I heard shuckle is pretty cheap. We also have rules now like no sleep, 1 hit KO moves like fissure, wobbuffett, and no ubers.

    Here is my team:

    Ninjask - leftovers
Baton pass, Swords dance, Substitute, Protect

    Gorebyss
Iron Defense, Amnesia, Aqua Ring, Baton Pass

    Skarmory
    Spikes, Roar, Drillpeck, Roost

    Salamence - Focus sash
Dragon claw, Earthquake, Stone Edge, Crunch

    Machamp
    Dynamic Punch, Earthquake, Stone Edge

    Weezing
Sludge Bomb, Explosion, Will O Wisp, Substitute

I basically don't know enough about Pokemon so I just looked online and saw strategies I thought were interesting. Ninjask and Gorebyss will hopefully give my guys the attack, speed, and defense boosts then I'll baton pass to either Salamence or Machamp. Weezing is there to basically take out his strongest pokemon. Skarmory will just annoy by using the spikes. Is this strategy pretty common and do you think it will it work? And also I haven't yet gotten a deepseascale. I've caught about 25 relicanths/chinchous but man those things are hard to find. I really don’t know how well this baton pass strategy will work but hopefully it is good. Would a mass baton pass team be viable? Like have ninjask first to raise speed and hopefully get a swords dance in, switch to Gorebyss for defense and aqua ring, then pass to scizor for swords dance again, and finally baton pass to Salamence or Machamp? I saw a video of this strategy and it looked pretty cool but I’ve heard some people hack their pokes to make them stronger so I don’t know.

There is such a thing as a Baton Pass chain. However, it's kind of a gimmicky strat as all it takes to fuck it up is one Roar or Whirlwind. if you ARE trying that, consider adding a Spore+Dragon Dance Smeargle FOR GREAT JUSTICE.

It doesn't look like you really have anything that can absorb special hits, and that's fine if you're running a BP chain. If not, add a special wall.

Far be it for me to tell you not to use Gorebyss (I always like seeing UU Pokes on teams) but you may want to stick a Focus Sash on it as even after an Iron Defense or Amnesia it can't take hits well. Especially special hits.

Does Machamp have a fourth move? If you haven't decided on one I can suggest a few. EQ is kinda redundant, for instance; elemental punches might work better.

Sludge Bomb may be STAB, but it offers little coverage and Weezing won't be killing anything it isn't supereffective against. Flamethrower or Thunderbolt are viable replacements. Also, you might want to swap Substitute for Pain Split.

Thanks a lot for the info. I was originally thinking about using smeargle but we made a rule that we won't use sleep. Do you think that leftovers would be good on gorebyss since he also has aqua ring? My thinking was that it would be able to recover a bit of health while improving its defense. I was also thinking about using a vaporeon instead but I would have to level it into the mid60s to get acid armor. Is there a better pokemon to baton pass with that will increase armor or attack? I'm starting to feel that ninjask will only be able to raise its speed and before it can use sword dance I'll have to swap him out.

As for the Machamp I hadn't yet thought of a fourth move but I might try to get thunder punch on him since I know my friend is using starmie. Besides the elemental punches are there any other moves he can learn from a TM that would be helpful? He is also probably going to use a blissey and metagross. I think if I am able to survive and baton pass to my machamp I should be able to take out those two without that much difficulty. I figure earthquake will be helpful since its a powerful and accurate move compared to dynamic punch and stone edge. Also would you recommend baton passing to machamp or salamence? Salamence seems to have better stats but machamp I think would be cooler 8-)

No Guard Machamp with Dynamic Punch and Stone Edge doesn't care about missing, because he won't.

Also, Thunderpunch would be best. Fliers are covered by Stone Edge, so you're going to have trouble with bulky waters, maybe.

Spending a lot of time just leveling guys up at the moment. Then I'm going to check out whatever is going on at that other lake.

I don't carry around any Pokemon with HMs. I keep one with Fly if I'm headed to a new area, and I just fly back and pick up whatever I need if I run into obstacles. Then dump them all off as soon as I've made it through, since most things aren't blocked on both sides.

Man now I can't stop thinking of a team that I would like

And I haven't really played the game in months

Empoleon, Garchomp, Gallade, Drapion, Rapidash, and Leafeon sound like a fun group...

Blah, so many to choose from

Apparently I shouldn't have made Spheal forget Water Gun. I assumed he'd get a better version later. So, is there a fairly good TM I should replace that with, that I can rebuy easily later? Or is Surf good enough to just use that? He looks to be a Special Attack guy.

Also, is there some reason to use Swagger? I keep having guys that will learn it, and they made a point of giving you the TM, too...

Surf is better than Water Gun in every way, bar one.

Surf hits everyone in a double battle, apart from the user.

Swagger's neat, though it can work both for and against you if you use it on a physical attacker. (Confuse + 2 Stage attack.) I like combining Confuse and Paralyse. It's mean.

Has that changed from RSE? It only hit the opponents there (though at half power).

It seems to hurt a lot in both D/P and PBR. I only tend to use it in double battles if my other Pokémon is Ludicolo (4x resist water, Special Wall) Kingdra (4x resist water, general wall) or Vaporeon (Water Absorb), so I couldn't tell you for sure if it was half damage or not.

The rule in RSE was that moves that only hurt the other team are at half power, but moves that hurt your ally as well are at full power.

Nothing on Smogon or Serebii to suggest that it has a power reduction. I think it only had that in FR/LG/R/S/E and Colloseum.

I dropped Flippy the Gyarados out of my main party this morning, and stuck Waterfall (which actually isn't a bad Physical Damage move) and Surf on my Floatzel. My New Traveling Team:

Gamera the Torterra, Lv 41, Starter
    - Holding Amulet Coin
    - Earthquake, Seed Bomb, Leech Seed, Synthesis

    Burnard the Infernape, Lv 43
    - No Item
    - Scratch, Close Combat, Flame Whell, Taunt

    Tuna the Luxray, Lv 46
    - Holding Magnet
    - Tackle, Spark, Crunch, Thunder Fang

    Wally the Floatzel, Lv 36
    - Holding Exp. Share
    - Swift, Aqua Jet, Waterfall, Surf

    Beaks the Staraptor, 38
    - No Item
    - Wing Attack, Fly, Defog, Endeavor

Heston the Bibarel, HM Slave, Lv 22
    - Rock Climb, Rock Smash, Cut, Strength

Any gaps in there I should look to fill for the trip to the League, and the Four?

Heh, I also think it's largely because some of them are just very good Pokemon from very early in the game and so a lot of people stick with them for the story portion. My team:

    Sola (Gyrados), L38
    Holle (Luxray), L39
    Mal'kum (Graveler), L37
    Hyaloptis (Infernape), L38
    Vacil (Gastrodon), L38
    Ile (Staraptor), L38

Fooling around in the Great Marsh a bit and then heading over to get my 8th badge. :)

    Alakazam - lvl 43

I'd say bringing everybody up to between 45-50 would be good - you'd be strong enough that you can handle the Elite 4, but not so strong that there's no challenge.

Oh, hey, is there a way to transfer money to another person? My daughter is about to take on the 2nd Gym, and hasn't caught anything Fire yet. I told her to go catch a Ponyta, but she has no Pokeballs, and no money. I have no idea what she spent it on, but she has a large number of Starlies in the computer...

I was going to give her some, like a good Dad, and show her how to spend it responsibly, but I couldn't find a way to do it.

About the best you can do is give her expensive items to sell. Of course, if you are buying stuff to be resold you are taking a 50% loss.

No, there's no way to transfer Pokedollars. You could give a couple Pokemon some expensive held items and trade those for her to sell, though. Or she could just level up the Pokemon she has a bit more then muscle through the second gym. I don't think she'd have the thing to rechallenge trainers for extra money yet.

I really like Torterra, but I really hate Wood Hammer. His naturally learned moves are great, except that every single other grass move he learns is special, and his special attack blows. I don't really enjoy being able to one-hit exactly one Pokemon before the dude brutalizes himself and needs to go sleep it off at a Poke-center.

I'm not really familiar with how egg moves work. I have to get a dad with the move, and breed it with a female of the species? Is that right? If so that kinda sucks since Turtwigs are what, 12.5% female?

I'll probably just suck it up and slap a shell bell on it then, like Aggril says.
