Hi there!
So, earlier today, after getting a mah sentries sapped and mah behinds kicked in TF2, i was surfing the intarwebz for something new to do. That's when I stumbled upon HL2: Portal, which, if you don't know, is basically Half life 2 with the Portal Gun added to your arsenal. Being new to this Mod business, and at the time being bored out of my mind, I decided to give it a go. After "installing" it (or rather, moving a lot of files around), I was almost straightaway bombarded with glitches and crashes, forcing me to move everything back to normal.
So, after searching a little more, I found SMOD. After fumbling about and putting the file in the wrong place a few times, I was ready to go. What followed was the greatest fun I've ever had with an FPS (but then again, the only FPS I've ever really played is the Orange Box). As soon as I picked up my first Grease Gun, I was instantly converted. And, joy of joys, headshots actually did more damage! I resolved to play through the game once without cheating, and then turn on all the cheat weapons for a second playthrough. Of course, this resolve wavered halfway through Ravenholm, as the usual mindrape was tripled with the random enemy placement. I turned the cheat weapons on. Kentucky Fried Awesome ensued. I am proud to be able to tell my brother and sister that I'm off to chuck scissors at zombies.
I have found a great site to keep up to date on SMOD (link below), so please discuss SMOD, GMOD, and all the other mods for HL2 and the rest of the Orange Box, as well as bringing links to new mods to share the fun!

Have the Orange Box?
This should get you started.
Young one, you have just embarked upon a wonderful new journey...
EDIT: Also, if you like SMOD and realism, you might like SMOD : Tactical
Actually, it was more like half an hour.
I'm kind of not into tactical stuff.... but what's the difference between SMOD and SMOD tactical?
Download it.
Now.
You will know joy.
EDIT: Heres a link: http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View.php?view=HLMotw.Detail&id=18&game=4
SMOD : Tactical makes the game more hardcore and goes more towards realism (so it loses some of the goofy stuff that SMOD "vanilla" does).
If you want regular SMOD, the latest version appears to be version 40, found here. The reason it's difficult to find is that the author's site is in Japanese. Google Translated version here.
I have just learnt of a version of SMOD called SMOD Redux.
Check this video here to see it in action:

Finally, this add-on to SMOD Redux gives you even more weapons! I haven't tried it out yet, so I'll be back with instuctions on how to use it.

I'll go ahead and put these links in the OP.
Is there a code that turns off headshot=instant death for Gordon In redux v6? As much as I like the idea, I don't like the Idea of going back half an hour because of pure bad luck.
Can't say I know.
As for the lack of attendance in the thread, that would be because we've already got a Steam / Valve thread where we post about any and all HL2 mod stuff. You might want to try there.
OK, Gotcha.
