Traffic court - quick question

I just got a speeding ticket for going 40mph in a 25mph zone. I owe the Man 90 bucks according to the ticket. I have had two or three speeding tickets in the past but have usually just paid the fine and was done with it. Is there any reason to go to court just plead guilty? Do they really drop the fine by admitting guilt?

Depends on the judge, really. I have had it go either way, but that's just playing Russian Roulette. This site is idiotically anti-cop but it might help you out...it helped me.

Also, since this seems to be an ongoing issue, consider slowing down next time.

Also, by going to court you can get traffic school.. Costs more, but can eliminate the points from your driving record, saving you on insurance.

FYI -- by going to traffic court, you're basically doubling down on your ticket. By showing up, you agree to pay court costs ($60 or so). The judge may have mercy, and say "sure I'll wave the ticket" but then you still owe court costs. Or he/she might say "nope, sorry." and then you owe $150 instead of $60. It's pretty unlikely that you can plead guilty and still get both ticket and court costs waived. At least in my opinion.

The main reason to go to court, and plead guilty or no contest would be to get the points waived not the costs.
