that's my other problem. I can't do tilts. It's like the no-smash zone of my GC controllers are about 20% of the way up and the rest is smash zone, as well as fastfall.

Turn the game on, chose single player, chose training, set the cpu to stand, and practice doing nothing but tilts for 10 minutes to half an hour. After you can reliably tilt in every direction practice chaining tilts in different directions one after the other. After you can do that without fail turn the cpu onto attack and beat him up with nothing but tilts for 10 minutes to half an hour.

If you still have problems after problems with tilts after that you should probably just give up at the game.

Make sure you beat things as Sheik AND Zelda, ZSS AND Samus, and Squirtle AND Ivysaur AND Charizard.

Ugh. The game doesn't even show you which character you used after the fact. I swear, some of the stuff in this game really makes me think that Sakurai wanted to drive anything resembling a serious player totally frickin' insane.

I don't play him exclusively, but he's so comical that I play him at least once a day. I love the comical characters.

C4 recovery is all about not fastfalling. Just pretend you're controlling a tilt in midair and then blow up the C4 as soon as you can.

General stuff: his A combo is strong but I rarely kill people with it. Save the forward tilt combo for the killing blows, as his forward tilt comes out lightning fast and has definite KO potential.

Do not depend on mines, use them sparingly.

Learn to dash attack + mortar, it's effective but most importantly it's fun. Mortar is a great attack. His forward aerial is great but so slow, don't spam it. Mostly all his aerials have a lot of lag time so don't be too crazy with them.

C4 is your lifeblood in my opinion, I love that shit so much its so useful. Simply placing it on the stage puts something in your opponents mind, and it can kill around 100% depending on the character. Grenades are also great. Know that you can dodge roll with a grenade in your hand and it places the grenade on the ground. It's sneaky, and I've scored KOs with it before. Nikita is my least favorite special, but it has it's uses for tripping people up.

Here's an interesting bit of info:
Toon Link's Down Smash can kill Metaknight (probably other characters as well) in one hit on either of Green Green Acre's sides.
I managed to kill a level 9 CPU four times in one minute this way (he starts catching on near the end).

Press cstick down while running, immediately followed by normal stick up + z for an easy time with this! Actually now that I think about it I guess initiating the attack could be done however. I orginally tried doing it by flicking the cstick down then up quickly, and I guess the down part stuck.

    More random information:

I've only seen it once, but Luigi can get stuck in the side of levels when using his Green Missile -- it's sort of like how those bird-like enemies get stuck after diving after you. He struggles to pull himself out and his nose stretches and he resembles a door stopper being flung. It's pretty hilarious, I died laughing when I first saw it. (This was on pirate ship)

It even makes a "boooing" noise

Heres a fun one: When hanging on the edge as meta knight, doing a down B (teleport) will allow you to re-appear and catch the stage again, in sort of an edge stalling trick. However, holding down A or B during the teleport will cause you to do your attack on the stage. Not to useful, but fun to do.

I was wondering what the interest in Friday Night Friend Smashes would be, as in a 2v2 tournament. I figured we have the casual-ish tournament saturdays, competitive asshattery sundays, why not round the weekend off with friday night teams? I'd probably rotate it weekly between the hardcore/competitive item/stage sets to keep it interesting.

So, would you guys be up for weekly teams?

Hell yes. Count me on board.

When they first spawn, they take roughly 20% to break. Their percent slowly ticks down by itself.

Whoa, did not know that. That sure helps me a bunch.

    Indeed, thanks for the explanation.

The worst thing they did in the game, to me personally, was adding FLUDD to Mario. I really wish, if they HAD to add it, it'd been as an item anyone could use. Why couldn't Luigi get Poltergust like I'd wanted, and give Mario's tornado some stars and call it Galaxy?

Does anyone have any good advice on using FLUDD? Because it is just not working its way into my arsenal, and I feel gimped after SSBM's Mario. I know it's supposed to be good to keep people from recovering to the stage, but it just never seems to work out that well for me. Not to mention having to aim it upwards, since Down + B, which activates it, seems to more often than not cause a downwards blast, losing half your water on the floor...

God. I wish this had DLC just so they might give me a Melee-styled Mario, if nothing else.

Mario's tornado was (mostly) useless junk in melee and Luigi's tornado was awesome. I find it no surprise at all that those moves have/haven't been changed in the ways that they have.

At least Mario's down B is useful for something now, you can stop some recovery moves in their tracks as well as push free fallers out of range for an edge grab. And Luigi's tornado went from good to just nuts.

Also, I think the main thing Munkus has going for him is that he seems to have adapted well to input lag. He strings combos excellently, whereas I'm lucky to pull off a 3-hit combo. Of course, he also plays Meta Knight. :)

Also, thinking back -- I think on one of the matches I lost my last stock to the Halberd's arm -- we were both in bad shape damage wise, too.

I figured it was coming but I was powerless to stop it! Actually, that and I for some reason have bad depth perception or something, I can never tell when it's actually going to hit.

That, and it was your guy's ship. He cheated and told it to hit me. :(

Diddy Kong was standing defiantly on the deck of the ship, bruised badly. Meta Knight fell to the ledge, licking his wounds, but knowing he had the upper hand. He scowls at the monkey, and motions with his left arm. Suddenly, a giant mechanical arm whips Diddy Kong in the side of the face, knocking him clear off the ship to his gruesome death.

What do you mean by off of the side? From what I can tell, it's not really a sweetspot like Zeldas or Captain Falcon's -- it's just that the fist does more than his arm. It will do around 17% if hit with fist and knock farther, 14% otherwise and not too far, but substantial.

His forward air is just monstrous and MK is really light and depending on where and what stage he was hit, I'd believe that.

So where can I upload/download stages? We made one the other night completely designed around the same principle that causes people to camp at the bottom of Hyrule Castle at high percentages.

A five stock match with four people usually takes around twenty minutes to finish, with frenzied screams of HE'S OUT OF THE HOUSE, KEEP HIM OUT, SMASH HIM OFF when someone gets blasted out of the two small entrances, with everyone at over 500%.
