Hey, this is Serrated Sabre from last night. This is about the second time on the server, this time I really saw the difference between playing here and playing on the pubbies. Soldier groups steamrolling engie placements. A engie putting three shotgun blasts in me before I could react. Consecutive ubers. Most of all though, actual teamwork.
It took me a couple rounds to realize that that was the real reason for me getting rolling as much as I did. Not only are there really good players, it's that they're working as a team.
Those were good games last night, that and I need to practice explosive jumping. Seeing a third of the opposite team sticky or rocket jump the spire point in badlands is just crazy.
Hey good to see you, and welcome to the forums.
Keep playing with us, you did a good job last night. And don't go back to pubs. Ever. They're no fun.
And dude with herpes, I dunno about the Razers, I just compared them to a few other headphones and these seemed like a great deal.
And they are.
I guess my real question is just how effective is headphone 5.1? Does it really "feel" like surround sound, do the headphones do a good job of sound placement and direction? I would love 5.1 headphones if they were high quality and distinct and really felt like surround. It just seems like the sound would kind of "blend". I usually game fairly late and while I already use headphones all the time to not disturb my wife, if they were actual surround that would be pretty sweet.
I think I'm officially HONC and West Coast until people take their thumbs out of their asses.
I am inclined to agree, as far as maps go. Last night people would RTV until they could get gravelpit, then we played gpit->well->gpit. Awesome.
And to those of you who say custom maps don't run well, it's because Valve maps are boringly small with lame textures and almost no cool lighting effects. Get a new damn video card.

Blow me. I can keep a consistent 40fps-60fps on stock maps, because I more than exceed the minimum system requirements for the game...I'm pretty sure I actually exceed the recommended. Cut to a couple customs, where I wind up grinding down to 10fps. Now, like I said I can easily turn down detail levels to get those same maps to run just fine...but it's a gigantic pain in the ass, and half the time it causes other glitches that I have to exit the game and restart to remedy.
I just think custom map makers should at least give some thought to the idea that at least some of the playerbase is going to be running on systems that only meet the recommended system requirements (or, *gasp*, the minimums).
Though for about half the customs that used to rape my framerate simply turning off HDR did the trick, and it's not something I particularly miss on stock maps. My card isn't that horribly underpowered. For the rest? *shrug*
Like, I don't get why people bitch about the customs so much.
Some of them are fan-fucking-tastic.
Corporation is an example.
Yeah, I was kinda digging that map for something different, yet half the server was still bitching incessantly. I think half of it is just not wanting to put the effort into learning new maps; most of us can run through Dustbowl or even Badlands with our eyes closed by now, and not knowing exactly where to go can be frustrating, especially if you consider yourself an above-average player.
I say get the fuck over it.
Though I'd agree that the spawn timer might need some work

Indeed it is. I'm still pretty crappy at it, but I've gotten a lot better. On badlands specifically, I'm more a fan of playing scout and just double-jumping (either from the little cliff on the opposing side, or from the balcony of the other team's base...just go in the door and up the stairs...but watch for sentries).
And for some reason I've become utterly bored with Gravelpit, even though it used to be my favorite. Dustbowl is my masturbatory map of choice now. I don't know what it is about Gravelpit, but for some reason it's just......yeah, boring covers it.
You know you're playing too much TF2 when your in the top ten of every PA server...
What can I say, I can't get bored of it.
I need you to keep playing so much because you're one of the few pyros that can actually kill shit when I've got my medigun beam attached to them. Otherwise being a medic is the most boring and unrewarding class experience imaginable.
Dustbowl is a monstrously awful map and it makes me crrrry.
I still don't see why 2fort get dropped from rotation but that gigantic god-awful marathon map persists.
Oh, and someone please re-institute the "waiting for players" time. Without it the initial caps on maps like Granary and Well are borked by the lack of pre-charging medics.
I've tried to fix this and have had no success. I'll look around again for a fix. It broke on my server a few patches ago.
As far as custom maps go, just suggest some and I'm always more than happy to give them a shot. There still has not been a user made map that a significant portion of the server enjoys. There always seems to be 30-40% of the server that bitches when corporation or redstone comes up.
30-40% of the server is going to be complaining regardless.

Note that the minimum specs only pertain to launch content. I'll bet that you'll have a hard time running Goldrush with HDR enabled after seeing the flythrough.

Well I guess we'll just have to see about that. But like I said, in TF2 at least I decided HDR wasn't worth the framerate hit anyway. Hell, I'd still be running at DX8.1 if it wasn't for the fact that you (at least in my experienc) got no visual cue when ubers are about to end (which actually has significant gameplay impact for me).
Hopefully, though, if I get this new job I can spring for a video card upgrade this summer. The need for a low-profile card (thanks to the horrible "compact" case that this pre-fab system came in) is a bit limiting, but I'm hoping that I can find something better than my current card (ATI X1300 Pro) in the $100-$150 range.

Pretty much. 30%-40% of the server bitches about any given stock map as well. The only question is whether 30%-40% will actually leave. If not, fuck 'em. I'd say just make sure you space them out (say, one custom then two or three stock) so that most people will stick around because it's only one map and then they get to play Dustbowl again (or whatever).

Don't even bother upgrading, you'll only spend extra $ for the same fps. Trust me.
On another note: My girlfriend just got a Best Buy card with like $2,000 limit on it, so I think I'm going to set her up with a computer of her own right next to mine. She's been pwning people recently, especially with soldier, pyro and sniper (crazy).
I've already got a case, mobo, ram, old video card, mouse. All she needs now is a monitor and hard drive and we're good to go.
-Raptor: We should get that page scheduler thingy and send the link to both of our teams so we can figure out this match thing.
i hate that it suggests i run the game at high everything but then i get like 20 fps. im playing at low and i still get like 35 or so. i guess i should turn HDR off? i didn't think of that
You're rank 14, with 7146 poins, 156.07hrs played and 0.8score/min
Nice, annnd who's server is this?
Thanks for checking for me by the way, I could've sworn I had more hours and points than that.
I mean, I have like 60,000+ total points and almost 600 hours of play time -- How is the servers I play on the most only have 100 some odd hours. Seems weird to me..

You're 12th on Jon's, with 107hrs played.
scores are smaller on Jons though, so is the time played of most players
when you look at that list, you can see enders and tyrannus as the real top scorers as they're the only ones having more than 1+ points/min
What rank am I and what's my kd ratio?
Sorry, can't view it from work.
Same for me too please
What are you called in-game? Just doug? If so, you're ranked 391 with 24hrs played
Also, Callisto, remember that if you play under an altered name at any time your points accumulated during that time will be categorized under that specific name and wont show up for your regular one.
i hate that it suggests i run the game at high everything but then i get like 20 fps. im playing at low and i still get like 35 or so. i guess i should turn HDR off? i didn't think of that
Yeah, turning HDR off made a huge difference in my case. It's right up there with resolution changes and AA when it comes to dramatic changes in framerate, it seems.
And yeah, when I run at the recommended detail settings I only get about 20-30fps (if i'm lucky) too.

i have a widescreen monitor but i'm running in fullscreen rezs, you think that's helping at all? also i forget is high AA = to better fps or low AA, i think I'm on 2x

Ohhh ok I understand now. Could you check to see the name rakuen:Callisto! then?
That's probably the predominant name, but I have been playing a lot with the [G-hg] tag.

Search for the servers you play on.
Then bookmark their server pages so that you can check who's on them at any given time before you even fire up TF2.
30-40% of the server is going to be complaining regardless.
And remove hydro.
Note that the minimum specs only pertain to launch content. I'll bet that you'll have a hard time running Goldrush with HDR enabled after seeing the flythrough.
what was that command? map_graph 2?
Any other more stable configs that people know of?

Also, I will say again that i think ctf_mach4 needs to be added to the custom server at least.
