The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
My Treo 650 is busted now, it won't receive input from the keyboard, and it took a minor miracle to hotsync my latest data, but I did it. So thankfully, I don't have to worry about that.
BUT- now I need to figure out, do I use my replacement insurance with Sprint and get a new 650, or move to a newer model? The newer models seem to be windows machines, so here's the big question: What differences do I have to deal with moving from PalmOS to Windows? Does it still sync the same but with a windows program? Can I load my old PALM calender and contacts on it using the PC interface? Well, you get the idea, I would hate to reenter my entire calendar, and every contact again.
Also- are there people developing free or cheap software for windows portable like on the palmOS scene?
Losing the functionality of a smartphone is a nightmare.
I would suggest that you move to the Windows phone. They have a lot more & better features, and PalmOS is no longer supported, anyway. The synching is basically the same. I do remember importing my Palm contact list, but I forget exactly how. I'll check on that.
If you have any Palm programs that you absolutely cannot do without, or ones that you don't want to have to pay to replace, consider getting StyleTap, which allows you to run 99% of PalmOS programs on your PPC.
If you can wait until later this year, manufacturers will be coming out with phones that support Google Android. I'm a big fan of the platform, personally. The contest they've been having should ensure that there's a lot of free software for it.
Thanks for the info nibble and Thorn. Turns out either I need to wait for the Pocket PC 6.0 to come to Sprint, or wait for Android to come to Sprint. So for now, I'll probably just have my insurance I've been paying used to get another 650 to hold me over a few months.
Do you mean Windows Mobile 6.0? If you buy a PPC running 5.0, most (but not all) manufacturers provide a free upgrade to 6.0 -- just download the software off their site.
Jerks at Sprint were able to repair my 650 in 10 minutes. After all of my getting excited for new tech. Aw well, after seeing rumors about the Treo 800w in July, I'll gladly wait a few months.
