It's not the only sci-fi on right now. There's Warehouse 13 and Fringe. Sanctuary starts up again next weekend as well.
From what I've seen of the former and what I've read of the latter, I wouldn't call those sci-fi. But you know if we start talking about that the geek* cock sabers come out and that never ends well.
*note the case
How do you define sci-fi then? You know sci-fi isn't exclusively stuff out in space, right?
Some combination of science and fiction. They've got the fiction, but I don't see the science. I have a very simple and literal definition that saves a lot of time.
edit: Basically, if you have seen science and fiction in it, I will give it the Official Super Important MKR Sci-Fi Nerd Seal of Approval.
Ok, how can you not see the science in Fringe? Do you watch it with your eyes closed and your fingers in your ears?
The entire show rotates around what is called "fringe science".
From what I've seen of the former and what I've read of the latter
The former being Warehouse 13 and the latter being Fringe. I didn't actually see Sanctuary in the list, but I only saw one episode and barely remember it.
I stopped watching network stuff a long time ago. It always felt so bland.
he's actually sort of a the last starfighter type dude, which is a million times better than the usual hollywood hacker you see in National Treasure or Core or something

I like Eli and it seems like most everone just kinda automatically trusts him because he's just an everyguy guy and not there as part of the military or any other agenda.

While I do like him, I thought the Last Starfighter thing was a liitttle dumb. This show is borrowing from a ton of different sources.
It isn't too bad, and I'm hoping it will improve with time like the others did.
I really hope they salvage Rush's character somehow instead of keeping him an unlikeable asshole the entire show.

I wonder if those guys are going to show up again. It is kind of silly to have them go to THE FORBIDDEN ZONE and then bam nothing. It seems kind of weird that only 4 stargates would be in range of each other, so maybe eventually they figure the network out and can travel back to some of the earlier planets they find.
I was totally prepared to hate this show and ESPECIALLY the fat guy, but I think it's going to be like Atlantis and gradually get better. It's not bad so far!

Honestly, I'm surprised Eli didn't make mention of Last Starfighter when he got sucked into all of this.
Well...they canceled it, so if you want to catch up it's not like you'll be fighting a losing battle.
It was worth the watch. I don't know that it was ever as good as the original, but it was certainly enjoyable and there were some absolute stand out episodes.

i really enjoyed seasons 1-3... then i watched the beginning of season 4 and did not enjoy it as much. it seemed to really taper off at the end, and i haven't even seen any of the fifth season.
It seemed like the more we learned about the Wraith, the less thought-out everything seemed. It was like they were making it up as they went. It felt wrong in the way episode 1 felt wrong. Like there were many parts of the stargate universe that they just threw in without needing to.
Also, the one thing that REALLY bugged me about stargate was that everyone spoke english. In star trek at least they had the "really advanced computer systems" to blame. It was like one too many suspensions of disbelief for me.

"Why dosn't Curtis the group then?!"
"Because he's a fucking disposable character you fat idiot"
If Curtis is who I think anyway
Greer is Crazy McCrazyperson.
Twitch (I stream most days of the week)

what's a ghould?
I can never remember how it's spelled. The snakey alien things that were a minor part of the series.
I know, I was teasing you
weeeeeeeoooooooooooooo
It had science one way or the other, and it is a mystery.
I mean, I loved SG-1 until the last season or two and even then, I still enjoyed it. Atlantis didn't suck either.
Friday nights just like every other Stargate?

Wraith kind of had jaffa.

This is why I had a hard time with BSG.
