Is the Iron Man thing actually after all the credits? Because I don't really like waiting 5-10 minutes for all the credits to role by (well mostly my family doesn't like waiting, which I'll probably be seein it with all of them tomorrow). Or is it during the credits (because that would be way more preferable, kind of like starscream flying off in Transformers).
Argh, probably will have to see it again to catch that then. Hate after the credits stuff. Should do it during the credits, before all the movie people come in to start cleaning up.
I put some Iron Man thoughts on my blog, which is linked in my sig. To summarize, though, it a solid movie and Robert Downey, Jr. is so God damn fantastic as Tony Stark, but it totally felt like a cookie-cutter super hero origin story, the likes of which we've seen a million times since the first Spider-Man movie. Definitely a great setup for some wonderful things in the future, and certainly by no means an unenjoyable outing, but I just wish there were a few more surprises in there.
Though, seeing Jackson for the few seconds of footage after the end credits was a nice treat.
I see what you're saying, but the only scene that really felt cookie cutter to me was the big battle scene climax. Everything else had that same basic story, but with better execution and enough tweaks to make it feel newer, somehow. And a lot of that's due to the cast, and a lot of it is due to the way they made everything feel like more of a natural progression than someone telling them straight out that "YOU HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THINGS" or having the main character go "I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS PERSON BUT I CAN'T BE WITH THEM BECAUSE"
The Pepper-Tony dynamic in this was one of my favorite things in the whole movie. And I don't think I've ever seen a more enjoyable "testing out my new powers woo" sequence in a superhero movie.
I'd say so and I used to consider BB the best Superhero Movie ever made. I have to confess that I'm not much for DC comics though, so I could be a little biased.
Movies, television shows, animated series, you name it. But comics? Nothing besides the special publications for me (you know, stuff like DKR, Year One, Killing Joke, etc.). So I feel I'm a lot easier to please in that front; I won't go picking apart intricacies in movies like "OMG his webs are genetic" but instead I'll be like "Why the fuck is he dancing?"
That said, I still feel that, as a non-comic fan, Batman Begins is easily the most enjoyable superhero film to date (pending Iron Man).
Or are you just talking old school green arrow with the arrowcar and arrowplane and arrowcave?
the original green arrow is a direct, unapologetic ripoff of batman. they dressed bruce wayne in robin hood's clothes and gave him one of (i think) the all-time worst origins ever. he gets trapped on an island, then decides to fight evil because he's too good at shooting arrows not to. that's the script of a lazy, lazy man.
he's rich, he can afford a lot of themed gadgets, he's got a "young ward", he lives in a fabulous mansion filled with various vehicles that also feature his theme. there's a secret cave. the one thing he never really got was a decent rogue's gallery.
i recommend picking up the showcase: green arrow books. it's really startling how different he was then.

Agreed. Robert Downey Jr. was the movie to me, if it wasn't for him this would probably turn out to be another Fantastic Four. I still say Batman Begins is the best superhero movie so far, even if in hindsight it's not really all that.
My profound love of Batman Begins knows no bounds, but I'm really glad to hear everyone's enjoying Iron Man this much, and I can't wait to be counted among you.
There's a theatre across the street from me showing it every 30 minutes as of 9am this morning. I guess they don't want to miss a single potential customer.
Anyway, now I just need to survive the next 8 hours of work.

It blows the Spider-Man movies out of the water.
Hell it blows all comic book movies out of the water. It has the perfect blend of everything that makes comic books great. ...except big breasts
Even better than Batman Begins? o_O
Easily.
And I like Batman more than I do Iron Man in the comics.
So I am so pumped for this I can't even really put it into words. Iron Man is probably my favorite super hero and to see him on the screen is awesome. I haven't seen the movie yet but I don't think it matters.
As for Batman Begins, it was a fucking awesome movie and blows everything else away (up to this point), if Iron Man is truly better than Begins then I don't know what to say. I might explode in the theater. Also its funny everyone at work keeps asking me how excited I am for Iron Man. I think its because I've had that Mark3 armor still as my desktop background for like 8-10 months
So I was listening to NPR this afternoon, and David Edelstein loved Iron Man as something more than a popcorn flick. That alone has me excited, as Edelstein has to my recollection never liked a superhero film barring possibly the first Spider-Man.
Fuck, I hate working nights when good movies are out. I'll have to wait until Sunday afternoon to see this one.
I really don't think Iron Man is better than Batman Begins.
Ehhh, Batman Begins had some really good moments, but overall, I think Iron Man works better as a complete movie. But everyone involved with it is smart, so I do expect a lot of the problems I had with it to be ironed out with Dark Knight.

i would bet that any avengers movie would only really feature characters that have movies after iron man, so that marvel can secure the rights and availability of the actors and such now that it actually looks like they're gonna try to make an avengers flick happen. plus, spider-man and wolverine aren't really "traditional" avengers.
edit-plus, y'know, in the incredible hulk, apparently
robert downey jr shows up in a cameo as tony stark, in order to start establishing a shared film universe

Hey, even if it's short and sweet like
Sam Jackson
in Iron Man, I'm totally cool with that.
I remember someone saying they saw some of the filming, and that at one point people are seen using
Stark Industries
weaponry.

I would imagine that Marvel would introduce the top hitters of an Avenger movie in their own movies, but would introduce the rest in the movie itself. That way they don't have to wait for everyone to have a movie.
I really don't think Iron Man is better than Batman Begins.
Neither do I. But it's easily the best Marvel has done so far, which is good. When the first trailer of Iron Man surfaced, I thought it was going to be another Fantastic Four and possibly the nail in the coffin for Marvel (as far as quality goes, not sales).

I imagine we'll get Cap and Thor, then Avengers, then the rest of whoever makes the cut in this round.
The thing I really wouldn't guess is whether we'll be getting avengers before or after a second iron man, as I think they'll be within a year of eachother.
Iron Man is basically awesome. It also features the best Stan Lee cameo of all time.
Stan Lee is such a pimp
I like how his role was more like his role in FF2 (GOD WHY DID I SEE IT) where it was less doing something and more "Haha Stan's playing a random role awesome".

I had to settle for Jet Li and Jackie Chan.
Which, by the way, is a rental.

Because Batman Begins is my favorite movie, period. If this is somehow even better then that's damned impressive.
Plus, hey, Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges.
I want a Green Arrow movie.
Green Arrow when he thought he was Batman

yeah that
GA made a joke about it in the most recent Batman & The Outsiders and said it was from when he "thought he was Batman"

Entertainment Weekly's Marc Bernardin tells us what his top 19 (yes, 19) comic book movies of all time are.

i won't let this happen for dark knight, though
How about Wolverine?
