The title says it all. I'm look for some fun shooters to play for the Sega Genesis and the Super Nes. Obscure titles appreciated.

EDIT: Also include sidescrolling shooters like Contra and stuff. Metroid etc. And all kinds. I just want to gun shit down.

Axelay is a fine shooter for the SNES.

U.N Squadron, Super Swiv and R-type 3 are some good picks off the top of my head.

Gradius 3 (SNES) and Cho Anaki (Genesis), if you can find a copy of it.

Gaieres is my favorite Genesis shooter. You get your powered up weapons by shooting your TOZ (little option subship) at enemies. Different enemies give different weapons.

    Contra, you say?

There's always the classic Contra III: The Alien Wars

Not obscure, but the Star Wars games on SNES are kickass sidescrolling shooters. They have vehicle levels too.

Since its not mentioned, Raiden trad was a pretty fun game for the snes, though its short.

Genesis: M.U.S.H.A.(among my favorite shmups ever) and Contra Hard Corps. Still the toughest Contra experience around.

And if you have a Sega CD, Silpheed.

Why does no one ever mention Truxton for the Genesis? It's like I was the only kid to own this game...

    ..anyways, it kicks ass.

    edit: look what I found:

How bout Super Aleste/ Space Megaforce? I still get chills when i hear "Presented by Toho" at the startup. Also, the ending is great. Not to mention the weapons that just get bigger and bigger as you power up. I never did manage to get the 'endy shot' or whatever it was called. It was also a technical marvel for the SNES, as at the time so many people were saying that it couldn't handle a fast- paced shmup, with loads of action on-screen at once (and who could blame them after seeing Super R-Type...)

Sunset Riders is one of the best SNES games around.

The Vectorman games on the Genesis are pretty fun.

What about the NES? This is the best shooter available for it:

    gunnac.gif

Many weapons and options and such. Good stuff.
