How to get my 360 to my router.

So I've been having a lot of troubles lately. I got this new Di-524 Router, and I can get it to work for my PC, but it doesn't seem to work for my xbox. I've tried doing a lot of static IP things but it doesn't seem to work. I always fail at the DNS part. I've even tried putting the DNS numbers in manually. Also, I'm going wired with this.

What are your PC's settings, when it communicates with your router? Does it use something like PPPoE?

You might consider opening a command prompt and running ipconfig /all and pasting the results here.

Personally, I dumped the DI-524 after trying for months to get it working properly with XBOX Live. I tried every which way possible, followed every guide I could find, and still ended up with issues. I dumped it for a Linksys router and haven't looked back.

24.76.12.194 is a public IP belonging to Shaw Communications Inc. in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
64.59.176.[13,15,40] all also belong to Shaw Communications.

You got those settings from your PC? If true, your PC could be using something called PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet) which causes it to be the only machine that can use that Internet connection.

I can explain PPPoE in detail, but if I'm right you'll need to take the connection settings from your PC (username and password, mostly) and reconfigure your router so it grabs the public IP address and shares it to your PC and 360.

So first please confirm: those settings DID come from your PC, right? Not from the router?

whats the point of a router if the computer is still taking care of PPPoE? And how exactly would you get those number from the router as opposed to the computer? (not that i know all that much, i just dont logically see how it could be the case)

if that is the case, which seems likely, figure out how to plug in your connection info as mentionned above into the router and have it handle the connection instead of your computer, at which point it should be able to distribute it amongst your devices

basically, what should be happening is that that 24.x.x.x IP address your comptuer gets should actually be given to the router. then all the devices on your home network get a 192.168.x.x address. that address range is a private range that you use for internal networks. the router is there to basically take your single internet connection from shaw and share it between all the devices on your network. But the way it is right now is that that internet connection is going straight to your computer, and not to the router.

Now, don't take this the wrong way, I just want to make sure that everything is plugged in properly. you should have the cable going from your Shaw modem to the WAN port on the router, then a cable from one of the other ports on the router going to the PC. Make sure it's hooked up like that.

It really doesnt' make sense that you are getting an outside(internet) IP address if your equipment is hooked up correctly.

also, mspencer, Shaw is a cable provider, I use shaw here in Edmonton and there are no username/password settings. So long as the equipment is hooked up right, it should work.

reset all your settings on your computer and router to default, IE dynamic settings. coax from wall to modem, ethernet from modem to internet/wan port on router, ethernet from other ports on router to computer. hook it up powercycle the modem, let it fully boot up, then router, then computer.
