Lately I’ve been playing this online real-time empire game, and was wondering if anyone else plays it?

It’s called Ikariam and reminds me of civilization. It just runs in the browser and I like it because I can just check on it once a day and make good progress like that, so I don’t get sucked in too much but still pretty fun. For those who aren’t familiar with it, you start off with a town on an island (each island supports 16 towns) and each island has its own specific resource (of four main resources). To get the other resources you eventually have to trade with other islands or pillage towns on those islands.

For those who play it..

I was wondering what your startup strategy was? I started following the beginner’s strategy on their wiki and everything seems to be going well but I am a bit tapped on certain resources. My island has a quarry for marble and I need crystal glass to further level my academy research. I leveled the trading post to the point where I can see four nearby islands and still no crystal glass available to me.

So I am thinking my best bet is to get going with a palace and colonize another island that has crystal glass rather than waiting for the trade to come up. Any other suggestions of what I could do differently? Oh, I am also on the ETA world if anyone wants to trade or join in.
