I dont know much (read: anything) about replacing the PS3 HD and what is required and such. But I was browsing Newegg and saw this, a 500gb HD for 79.99. Would that work with the PS3? Somebody in the comments section said something about it being OEM so it requires its own cable?? No clue what that means, if anyone could shed some light on that.. I'm sure I'll want to upgrade from an 80gig.

No, I do believe that the PS3 requires a 2.5" drive. That one is 3.5". FYI, i also believe that the manual or Sony's sight will tell you exactly what you need AND how to do it. Sony not only allows switching HDD, but condones and supports it.

Man, what are you people filling your PS3 HDDs with? I copied my entire music collection, installed a few games, downloaded a bunch of demos and Rock Band DLC, and I haven't nearly filled up my 60GB yet.

the deadspace comic is well over 1gb ... but i removed it after i realized this 'mature' comic is bleeping curses. that occour every 30 sec.. annoying.

My 40gb is about 1/2 way down.. and i have no idea why.

I've noticed that "Mature" is one of the most misused words in the realm of entertainment.

So, I asked this in the MGS4 thread, but didn't get a response. Figure I'll have more luck here.

I'm getting the MGS4 bundle next Thursday (So, 80GB PS3). I've checked Backwards Compatibility on all games and the only one it seems to have a problem with is MGS3. Has anybody experienced these problems and, if so, how bad are they? I'd really like to sell my PS2, but I'll keep it if I absolutely must.

I played through all of MGS3 on my PS3 a few weeks ago.

The frame rate drops during cut scenes and occasionally when the action gets very intense. Thats the only problems I saw.

    The actual game plays fine.

If you go here, you can put in the game name and get a list of known errors.

Edit: Looks like a lot of minor things that updates have fixed.

Nope, like I said, I played through a few weeks ago and had no big problems outside of the framerate drop.

Note that I played before the 2.30 firmware update, as well, which means I played without the firmware update which largely improved BC preformance.

hey lynx be warned i had 'virtual' memory card problems with mgs3 on software emulation. it's the only game that's done it but the files kept corrupting. in the end i lost a bit of play time and made sure to make a lot of backups on extra virtual memory cards

but in terms of actual gameplay i only noticed a frame-rate drop in one boss battle

I just played through MGS3 (next up, Portable Ops) and the framerate also went into the shitter when effects were being used a lot. The rain wasn't too bad (though it did drop the framerate a bit) but whenever fire was used a lot, the framerate turned to shit. My entire fight with The Fury was running at around 10fps.

That would be 200 to Sony Style only. One of the smallest brand stores in Canada.

Believe me, there are quite a few more being shipped up North.

Why would you go to Sony Stores of all places? Find a Future Shop, a Best Buy, a Zellers, a Wal-Mart or any other big box store. They will have stock - the first two I know for sure.
I'll trust you on that. I'm just a little paranoid because of all the buzz I've been hearing about how the first shipment is supposed to be so limited. I just checked Future Shop's flyer for the upcoming week, and they don't even advertise it (although Best Buy does, and specifies limited quantities).

So I hope I'll be able to just walk in on day one and get one.

I work at a Wal-Mart in a pretty small town and we just got our bundles in the other day. We received two. That it's. Just two. D:

This town is weird though. We didn't have anyone at opening for Brawl, Mario Kart or GTA4 but all our copies of WiiFit sold out in about an hour after opening (6am). I'm really not sure what to expect, since I get off work at 6:30am that morning and I want one!

I didn't know where else to post this... but I thought it was very interesting.

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/06/09/fastest.computer.ap/index.html
To put the computer's speed in perspective, if every one of the 6 billion people on earth used a hand-held computer and worked 24 hours a day it would take them 46 years to do what the Roadrunner computer can do in a single day.

Some elements of the Roadrunner can be traced back to popular video games, said David Turek, vice president of IBM's supercomputing programs. In some ways, he said, it's "a very souped-up Sony PlayStation 3.

The interconnecting system occupies 6,000 square feet with 57 miles of fiber optics and weighs 500,000 pounds. Although made from commercial parts, the computer consists of 6,948 dual-core computer chips and 12,960 cell engines, and it has 80 terabytes of memory.

    The cost: $100 million.

All I want to know... can I [email protected] and does it come with a Blueray Drive? :P

EDIT: Even if Wal-Mart represents the worst in corporate America.

I was walking past our local Gamestop today on the way to pick up some yummy Panda and I noticed that they're suddenly running the "screw people up the ass" campaign. Anyone else see this? Apparently they're trying to convince people that it'd be awesome to save a whopping $25 by buying a gimped 40gb PS3, MGS4, and the controller through their own "bundle".

God I hope no one's dumb enough to fall for that. "You mean that if I settle for a half-sized drive and no BC I could save enough for half a tank of gas?!? Awesome!!" D:

EDIT: I guess I should clarify that my biggest beef was that they're advertising it like they're selling you the actual MGS4 bundle for cheaper than everyone else. It isn't until you look at the actual fine-print breakdown that you realize that they're completely shafting everyone.

its not THAT bad.. drive sizes are relative anyway.. 40 vs 80 .. I bet most people will end up replacing with a 500gb since they can be had for very cheap, its Sony sanctioned, and when the need arises.

I bought a 40gb... i have no ps1 / ps2 games to worry about... so i started fresh with a ps3. I am happy to have paid less. (not a mgs4 bundle.. bought a while back)

That's like super good advice for me as the only Sears in town is the only building left in the old mall that hasn't been knocked down for future development. Last time I went in there, it was a proverbial ghost town. May have to hit them tomorrow if I don't luck out beforehand.

This is so lame, after a couple of months of obsessing over wanting a PS3, and finding out they no longer have the 80 gig model that I want, then joy of joys its being rereleased as a MGS4 bundle, so thats cool, but now I am realizing this will be rather hard to get ahold of.

I just wanted to walk into a store tomorrow and just buy the damned thing.

Now I am going to try a midnight release at walmart tonight, and if that does not work try a walmart that is not doing a midnight release tomorrow at 6 AM, and if I still dont have one I will make the rounds for a few hours tomorrow at various stores that are supposed to have it.

Its like the Wii all over again.

I was explaining all this to my wife and she just got this grin on her face that said "man you are pitiful" Sadly I am dragging her along with me tonight to keep me company.
