Is TVersity meant to ask you to turn UAC off in VIsta?
And if yes, wtf and why?
WTF indeed.
I'm not installing anything that forces me to disable OS security features in order to coninue installation.
Any other options?

Well, since I only see UAC when I try to install an app (Like any other Sudo user privilege change should work), I don't really want to turn off what could potentially save my ass somewhere down the road.

Don't hold your breath for Sony to implement Backwards Emulation until 2011 (or until the Playstation 2 ten-year cycle ends).
You mean, aside from the already-existing PS3's that have backwards compatibility via software emulation, right?
Except they don't exist, right? There are NO PS3's that run PS2 games entirely using software emulation.
This is correct. The PS2 is either full hardware emulation in launch PS3s, or half software/half hardware emulation in later 80GB models.
The 80GB will soon lose that hardware functionality as well. But I suppose full software emulation could show up someday.
Yeah they popped out a GPU or some shit that also (somehow) is resulting in the loss of SACD compatibility and a few other minor things in order to reduce costs a little further.
Wow, now I'm really glad I bought the MGS4 pack, but also wary of the fact that I don't have a fallback option if this one ever fails (Hopefully not).
Also: Awesome subtle Family Guy reference.

This is the closest thing I can find to an official PS3 thread. In the interest of not starting a totally weak thread, I'll post the news here:
Sony to have 160gb "Limited Edition" PS3. For $499 you get the bloated HDD, a DS3 controller, a copy of Uncharted and a voucher for Pain over the PSN. No word on whether or not this has the B/C capabilities of the 80gb version.
Just thought I'd toss it out there for anyone dying to drop $500 bucks this holiday season when it comes out in November.
Funny. The MGS4 model was selling so fast they couldn't keep it in stock, so they reduce functionality (BC, USB, and card readers gone), pack in a good, but hardly stellar game and keep the price at $500?
In Bizarro world, Sony just announced a 120 Gb model featuring Little Big Planet, a revised DualShock 3 with a headphone adapter, full hardware backward compatibility, an I/R sensor, and two additional USB ports on the rear of the unit for $459. Sony was quoted as saying, "we just want to do right by our customers."
Now back to your current reality, already in progress.
Can I hook a usb hard drive full of movies up to my windows box, show wmp 11 where they are, and then steam them to my ps3? I know I can do it from an internal hdd, i know i cant do it from a NAS disc, can i do it from usb?

I think should be possible may have to restart the ps3 for the list to update. Also if the format is already supported by the ps3 you could also hook the harddrive up to the ps3 and play the movies that way too.

definitely, my music is all on a usb drive and it streams over a DLNA server fine - should be the same for movies. if you want to attach it to the ps3 directly be careful, because it needs to be formatted to fat32 for the ps3 to read it
thank u it will be fat32 but I doubt I will ever hook it up directly, I just didn't want to copy 400gb of files to this new drive only for the ps3 not to be able to see them
I've put a lot of hours into my PS3, and lately I discover my analog sticks are, well - sticking. Not horribly. It's not like if I jam it all the way left and take my finger off, it stays there. But a lot of times I'll release the sticks and they're stuck juuuust enough to continue panning the camera, or have my character moving forward when I really need to stay behind cover, for example.
Often this isn't much of a problem - just a very annoying issue - but with games where little mistakes like taking an extra step forward equals a reload, this could become a huge hassle.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution beyond 'buy a new controller'? I've heard they use like, silica powder or something as a lubricant on the analog sticks - is there a way to procure this stuff and somehow use it?
Helllp!

The perfect thread. Does anyone know why so many developers are saying they can't implement trophies in time for their products release? As far as my understanding goes, all they'd have to do is change the flag-trigger to the PSN version, not make exclusive trophies or anything. Yet a lot of people are making it sound like its a huge effort.

Is it more difficult than it seems?
I dunno what a flag-trigger is, but I have heard that implementing trophies is a lot of trouble - if you didn't build the game with the understanding that trophies would be put into it.
The only exception I'm aware of is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. That game was already designed to keep close track of 'kills made with x weapon', et cetera, for the in-game Medals system. It was apparently a relatively painless procedure for the devs to just connect that to the trophy system, so that whenever you earned an in-game Medal it gave you a trophy of the same name.

Theres already some discussion about this many pages back, But gonna start it up again.
Connecting a PS3 to a non HDCP monitor, how?
When my friend was recently deciding on a ps3, i explianed it should be easy enough to hook it to a pc monitor. But when we had zero luck with an HDMI-DVI cable, i checked google and found monitors need to support HDCP. Now i feel like a major dick about this, and want to help him out.
Also worth noting my friend is the opposite of a videophile, we're honestly not fussy here.
theres a couple different adapter solutions there, but i dont know if those are the only ones available or what. havent messed with it myself, having an HDCP compliant monitor.
when you choose 'copy files' it does it immediately. there's no paste. if you're copying from the flash drive it'll put it onto the hdd automatically, and if you're copying from the hard drive you'll choose which external medium to put it on

I sadly dont know how to fix it, but youre not alone, I dont have a PS3 but its happened on like..every ps2 controller I owned, its really quite annoying, if you dont find a way to stop it soon it may turn into the serious sticking where if you move it itll stick to the corners of the remote.

I think the bigger question is whether it's getting sticky, from finger residue, dust, etc., or if it's getting worn out on the springs, so it doesn't re-center perfectly. Obviously, if you're wearing the springs out, nothing's really going to make it "like new" without replacing the springs.
But you could probably take a basic lubricant to the thing to see if it fixes anything. If the alternative is "buy a new one," might as well try what you can on the controller you have to see if you can fix it.
Playing GTA IV last night, while driving Packie to something that would likely not end well, things suddenly went south a lot sooner than expected -- the audio suddenly took on the digital static sound one might expect from trying to play a JPEG through an MP3 player.
Thinking it might be a bizarre HDMI anomaly, I turned off the TV and powered it back on. Same. I could actually still hear the game sound under the unnerving racket, honking the horn, etc, but just barely. The menu screen, quitting to XMB didn't stop the noise, so I turned the console off.
Turning it on again, everything was nice and quiet as it had been before. I started the game, started the mission, completed the mission, no trouble.
So late October and early November, the PS3 has a pretty damn solid set of releases. In no order, with asteriks being PS3 exclusives (Bioshock being a new PS3 release):
*LittleBigPlanet
*Bioshock
*Resistance 2
*SOCOM Confrontation
Far Cry 2
Call of Duty 5
Fallout 3
Saints' Row 2
Those are the top games i'm looking forward to. I don't have enough money for half of them, and I don't have enough time for any of them.
Are you using a Dualshock 3 or a Sixaxis? The Sixaxis controllers seem to pretty much kick the bucket in one way or another after 8 months. The Dualshock 3's are worth the extra $10 not just because of their rumble but because they are (allegedly) more durable than the Sixaxis.
My L3's on my Sixaxis controllers are getting bad because of COD4, and on one of my 3 controllers my L2 button is a bit loose from the sprint button on Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

Yep it's a Sixaxis. Only about six months old though >.< guess I've been putting it through its paces. I suppose the thing to do is just go buy a DS3... which means I'll have to give Bioshock or Fallout 3 a miss this month...

So before I go out and buy me a flash stick, I want to make sure this works, and if any of you suggest a specific type of flash stick.
Basically my 60G PS3 died last week. Bah-hum-bug... but I'm over it and it has been replaced with a new 80G and a gift card good for $200. (Thank you BestBuy)
But... sadly, I also lost all my "shit". From music, to videos.... to save files. I had beaten several games (Just recently MGS4) but its all gone. So this time around I want to backup my save files. All I need is any USB flash drive and I'm set right? UGH
