Here's a question: WHERE THE FUCK CAN I GET AN MGS4 BUNDLE?! :P
Ok, now that my frustration is out of the way, I am annoyed beyond belief with Sony. I want a PS3 with PS2 B/C. Where's the best place to find one? eBay? Every time I check there, the prices are jacked PS2 B/C is very important for me as I don't have a PS2 anymore. Hard drive isn't an issue as you can obviously replace it. Any thoughts on where to get a PS3 with PS2 B/C?
Yup, MGS4 bundles are gone, as are any new PS3s with BC. If you really, really want one, you'll have to go to, you guessed it, ebay or craigslist and pay through the nose.
Honestly it would probably be easier to just buy a used PS2 at this point.
*sniffle*
Argh, forget it. I'll just get a PS3 when I finally get an HDTV. I want BluRay more than PS2 playability. It just kills me that I'll never get to play MGS3, FFX, FFXII or God of War / 2 again without buying a PS2. Stupid Sony... they really fucked this one up, badly. All the greatness of the system has been cut so they can continue upping the HDD space and keeping the price consistant. Just kills me.
Well, if you don't mind waiting a bit to get your money back, the Live search cash back promotion can get you an MGS4 80GB for less than it was for retail. It's currently at 30%, but I'm sure it won't last long.
So wait, the fact that my monitor doesn't accept HDCP doesn't necessarily mean it won't accept video from the PS3's HDMI output? Does HDCP only apply to 1080p?
When my LCD crapped out on me I used one of these to connect my PS3 to an old CRT. It worked pretty well...and it has two component inputs so you can connect both your xbox and PS3 via component.
Here's to hoping that the 120gig PS3 supports PS2 BC. The odd thing is that Sony is still including PS2 BC updates to the firmware with most of the releases. I bought a 60gig at launch and I love it. I have to get mine fixed since my sister's dog knocked my the table it was resting on over. The case is messed up but it still works fine.
I heard rumors of some sort of software BC with FW2.5... I only hope it's true
I'm not sure when but Sony should be able to do complete software BC for PS2 games.
When Sony finished PS1 emulation the PS2 got the slim down and all PS3s & PSPs support PS1 games. It's just too stupid for them not to finish it. The PS4 will just be a powered up PS3 so it should be able to support PS3 games no problem. 10 years from now I'll still want to play some of my PS2 games or let my own kids take a crack at them.
Full software BC is hard to do. Look how few xbox 360 games work with it. I got a feeling even if Sony gets it working it will be for a limited set of games ala the 360.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
So, I'm confused. People are talking about being able to play PS1 games on PSP's via the PS3. Does this mean I can download a PS1 game to my PSP from the internet, or does this mean if I have a copy of Chrono Cross sitting around, I can somehow play it on my PSP via my PS3. (I just bought a PS3 so I'm new to this)

There are some PS1 games on the Sony store that include a copy for the PSP as well. You buy it on the PS3, and upload to PSP. Castlevania is one of them.
I've heard ruumors of being able to play a game on your PS3 through your PSP, but not sure if that's real.

Keep in mind there's maybe a dozen PS1 games for download at this point. What should piss you off is that in Japan, there's well over a hundred.
Maybe this new feature will inspire the US side to finally, finally, finally get more PS1 games out there, but who the hell knows what Sony's thinking anymore.

They had some refurbished ones at the EBgames here for $450, but I have a Ps2 so I just went with a new 80 GB for $400.
That extra $50 is most of the cost of a game, so I have no real reason to need the BC

This is true.
Using remote play you can play PS1 games that are disks in your PS3 on your PSP. You just have to set it up for remote play.

You can connect your AV enabled PSPs to your PS3 and play PSP games with the Dualshock or sixaxis.

It's real. You can play any PS1 game that the disc is in your PS3 through remote play. I think you can also play the PS1 games off the PSN the same way. As well, some(very few) PS3 games are playable via the remote play on the PSP. Most are the PSN games, but a couple of full PS3 games also have that capability(Lair and LEGO Batman are the only ones I can think of off hand).

It\'s not too difficult. Basically you link your PSP to your PS3 through a menu on the PS3. Then you log in to your PS3 through the PSP. It establishes a connection and your now controlling your ps3 on the psp, including all the menus and whatnot. You can watch videos, look at photos, listen to music - basically anything the ps3 can access you can now access on the psp. If you try to play a game it will only work if the game supports remote play.
I will indeed have to test this out tonight. If so, then this alone made the PS3 worth it. Do I have to be local wireless with my PS3, or can I be on any wireless network w/ my psp and my ps3 can be sitting at home on standby (rear button on, red light on front) with the ps1 disk on the inside?
Where do I go to get like a walkthrough on this?

You can be anywhere, although it obviously works better being on the same local network. I used to watch Simpsons episodes sitting on a media server in my house (in a different room than the PS3) while sitting 1000 miles away with my PSP. It worked great
Sony has all this documented in their online help - just go to playstation.com or whatever it is now. You can also set it up so the PSP can remotely turn on the PS3 from anywhere. Basically the PS3 waits for a Wifi turn on from your router via the PSP.
Need some help. Just purchased a PS3 tonight (Dead Space, Fallout 3 and a few others were making my Wii start to lose a bit of its luster, though we're still on good terms) and got it up and running. It's hooked up to a cheapish tuner running into an SD TV, if that matters. While the PS3 is plugged in (even if it's off via the power switch on the back) I've got white lines crawling up my TV and a buzzing noise. Some interneting seems to point to a "ground loop issue" and people say that running the PS3's power cable through a 3-prong to 2-prong converter resolves the issue.
Has anyone here dealt with this and seen this solution work? Is it safe to do?

Is it even possible to play Dead Space in standard definition? Seems like the text would be too blurry, and trying to do the precise aims required (from a long distance) would be an exercise in futility. upgrade to HD? Hey, it would fix the crawling lines!

Yes. Amazingly enough those of us living in the early 1800's can still manage to muddle through on our televisual radios. :P

Bump. Anyone?
Yea, I had the buzzing problem, most notable while watching dvds. Getting a 3-2 prong converter solved it, the grounding loop was the problem. I didn't have any white lines though, and I'm not sure it buzzed while the PS3 was off...
If I create a Playstation Network ID on a friend's PS3 that I borrow, and then purchase content with it, what happens to that content when I put my profile on a USB stick and give it back to him? Can he play those games? Will I be able to get them again in the future if I buy a PS3 of my own and use the same account?

Yes for the most part. You are allowed to download content on up to 5 different ps3s, so you can get your stuff back. And besides for a few exceptions which are linked to your account name (Warhawk, SOCOM) any other user/profile can play them so your friend can mooch off you too.

So the only exception to that is movie downloads?

Well, I am the proud owner of a PS3 and I have intentions of owning LittleBigPlanet one of these days. What demos/games do I need to check out? I've downloaded the demos for Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, the new Motorstorm, Pixeljunk Eden, Blast...something (two games that involve shooting bloodcell type things). I already have a 360, so I've tried most of the cross platform games.
Yeah don't buy movies, the drm sucks bad on those. (Rental is fine, and the quality is pretty good, better than amazon's service) There is one other exception and that is Singstar songs. They can only be bought from inside the game, you can't get them from the playstation store. Gotta call them up if you switch playstations. (Rock Band songs work, can share/redownload them)
Also guys don't forget about Resistance 2 coming out in November. Resistance 1 was an extremely solid launch title with a good story, coop compaign and nice online features. R2 has basically been improved across the board with class based (rpgish) coop, split screen, bigger online games, and better stat tracking. I don't have access to the beta but I've only heard good things.

I tried the demo for "The Show" and was confused by it. It kinda seemed overly complicated, I kind of like my sports games more arcadey. And Uncharted is awesome. I never get tired of the combat in that game. I beat that game like 5 times. I'm half way through my sixth but I let my friend borrow it.
