Huzzah, I just got a DS! Picked up Puzzle Quest because I played and loved the demo on XBL. Also got Elite Beat Agents for awesome and Trace Memory because I found it hellaciously cheap. Castlevania: CotM for GBA came with the DS, so that should make for some fun Dracula-defeatin' goodness and will be a good intro to the portable series as I eventually plan to pick up and play all of them in order.
I also plan on getting Professor Layton, Hotel Dusk, the Phoenix Wright games, Pokemon and the World Ends with You. From there I'll embark on a journey of discovery and probably end up getting Phantom Hourglass, Shiren, Etrian Odyssey and some Advance Wars among others.
Wait, how in the hell is MnLPiT worse than SSS? It has a better combat system and better dungeon design, two of the most vital parts of any RPG. The plot (really, the writing) wasn't quite as good, but that was about it.
The gameplay is still fun but the story/setting are blah, that journalist sidekick is lame, and the game is way too linear. SSS remains the superior game by far.
Now when is Nintendo finally gonna announce Wario & Waluigi: Supersteal Saga so I can die happy?
Or they could do one like PiT (4 characters) but with the girls, since Daisy has a baby form now as well thanks to Mario Kart Wii.
I would like some opinions on Earthbound (Mother 2). I was thinking of picking up the GBA version but am worried that it doesn't really hold up to this day. The story and characters seem great but the gameplay looks archaic, slow and pretty grindy. Is this true or is it still fun to play in this day and age?

Do you live in Japan? Because that's the only place a handheld version of any (read: all) of the Mother games exists.

If so, yes, yes, a thousand times yes.
Yeah I can get the GBA version so that's not the issue, it's more that I'm apprehensive because someone described it to me as classic Dragon Quest-like (gameplay-wise, not story/graphics of course) and that series is notorious for being grindy. Have you played it recently or could it be that nostalgia is clouding your judgment? (no trying to offend but just want to get good objective advice )

It is grindy, but it is awesome. It's grind with a soul, a heart and a smile. Basically, you can't play those without being happy.
Also, I do believe Mother 1 and 2 are the same cart on the GBA. If you can read Japanese, I see no reason not to get it.
Now when is Nintendo finally gonna announce Wario & Waluigi: Supersteal Saga so I can die happy?
Goddamnit, now I'm going to want this game and it's never going to be released and I'm going to hold you personally accountable.
If they can give Tingle a spin off then who knows.
But that's like the most popular Zelda character after Link (in Japan at least, and with Western people with an affinity for irony). Not really comparable to Waluigi who isn't even canon (has only been in sports/party spinoffs so far, never in a game with an actual storyline like the rpgs or platformers (unless you count Luigi's Waluigi outfit in Paper Mario 2, which I don't)) and pretty much universally despised like Shadow the Hedgehog. Although a Wario&Waluigi RPG a la Mario&Luigi does sound hilarious.

That's like saying, "Hey remember that game you played? Well we took the best part about it, the thing you liked the most, the element that pervaded the game and elevated it, and made it WORSE."
It's just hard to swallow, no matter the improvements or new stuff in other areas.
I'm back once again with one of my game suggestion threads since it looks right now I'll probably have to work during the summer. That means that I'll probably have a lot of dead time on my hands while sitting by the phone and I could use some help in filling that void. I own both a DS and a PSP and I'm looking for an RPG, whether it's a Strategy RPG, normal RPG or a Rogue like doesn't really matter, just as long as it's fun, lasts for quite a while and I wouldn't mind if it has a decent story.
So, feel free to recommend your favourite titles to me.
FFTA2.
If you can read Japanese, get the import ASAP, if not, wait until June and get the US version.
Either way, it is hands down the best game on the DS (imo), and easily one of the best titles I've played in a long time.
I can already tell you that I can't read a fucking word of Japanese but thanks for the help anyway.
More for the general knowledge of anyone else who can.
I barely can manage that shit and I usually wait for the US release. My bro can do it just fine though, so I mooch whatever titles he gets sent in for a quick looksee.
FFTA2 is really boffo. SE is on a motherfucking role with the DS.
Also if you can handle japanese then there is no reason not to get Soma Bringer or EO2 right now.
I was loving Soma Bringer for a few hours, and then I stopped and haven't touched it since. I'm not sure what happened, but suddenly I don't care about it. I might go trade it.
After playing The World Ends With You, I endorse this game so much.
Why's that? I considered getting it, but the reviews somehow didn't work on me - they all went 'This is an amazing game' and then I couldn't notice anything amazing actually explained.
Get Crisis Core
I didn't really like FF7's story but I love Crisis Core.
Zack is the most likable main character in a Final Fantasy game since the SNES games

The battle system is brilliant.
The atmosphere is unusual.
The story is decent enough.
It makes excellent use of the DS.

How pumped am I? Yes, very!

Because it's pretty much okay. It has a heart in all of the right places, even if it's not really special. Kind of like an average Tales game.

However FFTA2, over 100 hours played.

Yeah, the SNES was a pretty likeable character.
The battle system is brilliant.

How's that?
And the soundtrack ain't half bad either.

Then it fixed it by letting me retry battles, or even just escape and carry on as if I had never entered it.
Yay!
Of course, linking a MMBN game to freshness now is a sad joke, but back in the day...
