The UN games on the PS2 are great fun, so I'm really looking forward to this.
That's a great lede, "The No.1 Head-to-Head Fighting game franchise based on Naruto". I know there's a few bad DS ports or something, but what a way to intro a press release.
This looks phenomenal, looks just like the target render from way back when. Also heres hoping for a quick NA release but with it being called Ultimate Ninja already I have high hopes.
I don't think it's a stretch to say that this game actually looks better than the anime (if the trailer was partly gameplay). Especially considering the inconsistency between episodes. I'm looking forward to it.
If someone creates a miracle foolproof medicine that is a cure for the common cold, cancer and loneliness but it has the minor side effects of explosive diarrhea, uncontrollable bleeding from the eyes and murder-fugues, that's not a total 'resounding' success.
Awesome trailer. It definitely looks better than the 360 Naruto game we got from Ubisoft. The characters looked weird in that one. And this is CyberConnect2, which means it's probably going to be full of depth and things to do. Color me excited.

I hated the fighting system, the RPG mode tried some new things--some bad, scratch that, alot bad, a few interesting. Overall, meh. I would much rather get a new next gen Naruto title than another Rise

I dunno I enjoyed the battle system. I love the way they made every single hit you land really matter. Plus the GTA style naruto world was just hella fun.

So yeah I completely disagree on every level.
Well I should have been more specific, I hated the Jutsu/QTE system, there was nothing wrong with the hand to hand. This was really bad online when it was just a rush to knock your opponent down/away and use your rank 3 Jutsu of choice. I would much rather have Clash of Ninja jutsu like specials than the Rise handseals and charging. Although removing just the charging/QTE would help a great deal.
I also enjoyed the village re-created but it was filled with Assassin's Creed-like tedious repetition missions. Venturing outside the village wasn't very fun, the game was far too linear for it to be classified as open-world, although I enjoyed some of the challenges like tree jumping, or platform crossing, etc. But I felt the game had alot of problems
Like, I'm not normally into this sort of thing, like at all. However I just randomly happened to see the GT trailer, and I have to say that is by far the most excellent cel-shading that I have ever seen in my life. If the full game actually looks anything like that, then I might just have to buy the game for that alone.

Same here. I have always loved Cel-Shading since I first saw it on JSR. I love to see it's technical growth.
Yeah CC2 has been doing awesome Naruto games for like four years now. This isn't much of a shocker.
Accel 2 was sort of dissapointing since it wasn't much of a change from the previous one.
Though I can't blame them now, considering that this game seems to be the true evolution of the series.

No online multiplayer = no full price buy from me.
Apart from that, the graphical style looks 10 times better than the Ubisoft Naruto game and at the time I thought that looked amazing.
I'm not a fan of Naruto in the slightest but that tailer makes the game look really, really nice, it does truly look like an episode of an anime.
Screw that, it looks better than an anime. No budget limitations or long pans across a writhing forehead. If it's balanced well, it looks like it would be awesome for anyone who likes fighters, even if they only vaguely know of Naruto.

Well, I meant like a.... good looking anime. The only ones I actually enjoy are the Studio Ghibli stuff. And Afro Samurai.

They're making an Afro Samurai game. :P

Anyways, that footage looked good. Since it's a CC2 game, I'm hoping it'll have a lot of depth outside of the fighting, perhaps in the form of a huge amount of side content and quests. I loved the .hack//G.U. games especially for all the content and depth. Honestly, though, I hope this is just a stepping stone into a new .hack series. :P

Well, being the Naruto whore I can be, I of course ended up paying the 2.99 for Qore and the demo.
It was a pain in the ass too, with the Qore download taking up a good 5 hours or so, and then Naruto demo taking about 2 more hours. Finally though I was able to play it, and I was pretty impressed.
The demo lets you pick between Kakashi and Naruto. Each already have their support characters, with Naruto having Sasuske and Sakura, and Kakashi having Gai. Each also have their own sets of extra items which are activated bia the d-pad. I'm guessing most of this will be customazible by the time the game launches.
The controls are as following: Analog Stick-Moves you around D-Pad-Use different items (Bombs, extra shurikens) X-Jump- Double tapping it will do a dash that locks in to your opponent. Holding it will cause you to flip around, which is great for evading attacks. Square-Throw shurikens Circle-Attack. Holding a direction and circle does a different attack and combo. Triangle-Chakra, and your modifier button. Holding it down raises your chakra bar which you use for supers and different things, but pressing buttons after it is where the fun comes in. Triangle+Square-Throws around 20 shurikens to your enemie Triangle+X=A super dash, which is faster and has longer distance. If you hit an opponent with it who doesn't guard it, it stuns them momentarily. Triangle+Circle-Your Jutsu attack. Naruto does the rasengan, Kakashi does the chidori. Triangle+Triangle+Circle- Your ultimate attack, which tends to knock a good chunk of life from your oponent. Triangle(Holding it) When your life bar is at red, it unlocks awakening mode. Naruto becomes his nine tail fox version (Always fun, extra powerful and super reach), Kakashi his Sharingan mode. (Automatically does the log thing where you appear behind an attacking oponent.) L1 and R1-Assistants. Unlimited use, but you have to wait till their gauge refills after each use. R2 and R2-Block. Tapping them at the right time does the log replacement technique.
Now for the game itself, it's ver fast, frantic and fun. I played all the Ultimate Ninja Games for the PS2, and this is basically the perfect evolution of the series. It's no Soul Calibur or Street Fighter, but it's not trying to be. 3D movement and spacing is really important, so it's more of an arena fighter. There are so very cool combos that can be pulled off by mashing Circle, but there's also depth to it since holding a direction will affect the combo string. Chakra managment is also important, since your powerful moves depends on them. And using the assist characters is cool too, since you can use them either to distract your oponent while you recharge chakra, get in an extra hit, or finish off a combo.
The camera was my biggest worry about the game when I first saw it. Unlike games like Virtual On, or the Tenkiachi series, it doesn't stay behind your character at all times. It moves along the field to keep both characters in frame, and switches to a more traditional fighting view when they are close together. This means no split screen needed when in vs, but also that sometimes you find yourself in the background. Surprisingly this isn't nearly the problem you would think it would be, as you can still clearly see what you're doing. I'm impressed.
Graphics are as beautiful as you would see from the trailers, but the animation and speed is what impressed me the most. Everything just moves very fluidly.
So complains? Well I am annoyed that the game went from having two jutsu from characters in the past series, to just one (which looks like they'll be customizable.) The timing for the log replacement technique seems a bit harder to pull off too. The game is not a super deep competitive fighter, so those looking for that will be not enjoy it. And of course, after playing it, the lack of online really saddens me.
Overall though, I'm even more psyched for the game. 2.99 for the demo and Qore, which is interesting in itself, was a decent price for it, but you can always wait for the 17th when it will be released for all.

Oh God yes. I hope they do. I loved the .Hack//G.U. games.
Lame
I want more 360 rise of the ninja games! At least that was something fresh and new.
I never asked for this!
This one was very nice though.

For good reason though..we have gameplay!

Looks really, really good to me. Just like the PS2 games, but in 3D.
Also, demo in July!
Ugh.
I want to get this but I'll feel really dirty about it.
Do... Re... Mi... So... Fa.... Do... Re.... Do...
Forget it...

Naruto: Looks pretty fun. I'm not too keen on the non-equal camera angle though.

Yeah that's my only concern right now. Guess we'll find out when the demo drops next week.
I wanna' know if this baby plays as good as she looks.
