The one player game looks like it will be entertaining, and the cut scenes for the story missions looks really good.
And then there's the little touches for the fans, like Gaara using only his sand to attack, and Akamaru running around when you're fighting as Kiba and attacking.
I just want to pop into here and say that anime based video game titles are getting out of hand. I'm also throwing "Dragon Quest Monster's Joker Part 2 Return of the Shadow Beast of Ultimate Aliance" in there...

Nah, just going off of the movies and posted controls.
Also not being a Bloody Roar clone with Naruto characters kills the deal in my book. I never liked the CC Naruto games on the PS2. The .hack sound effects make me wish I was playing that game instead. :P
It doesn't play like Bloody Roar, I can tell you that!
Ergo, it is the inferior Naruto fighting game experience this fall. :P
You're comparing apples to oranges. Ultimate Ninja Storm doesn't play like a fighter. It's something else entirely. Somewhat similar to the DBZ Tenkaichi games, but it still has its own personality.
And as far as recreating and even surpassing the feel of the series, Ultimate Ninja Storm is unmatched.
This is what that silly Ubi game claimed to...and yet I and all my buddies dropped that like the shitstone it is and kept playing the Bloody Roar Clone. Hmmm....

And you still haven't played the UNS demo, so again, you don't know until you try it. It's free. Y'know, free?
Suddenly I really want a PS3. Looks better than the anime.
However, I don't like the fact that the cutscene attacks are near instant kills (see Shika vs Kankuro), unless the defense button masher was seriously shitty.

Nah, I used them like 2 or 3 times in a single match in the demo, unless you're just not trying at all with the prompts, they take well less than a lifebar
Just downloaded the demo for this this evening. I thought it was alot of fun playing as I was, but those videos show some serious beatdowns. Might get this fairly soon.
Thinking of picking this up for a friend this christmas, for a secret santa. Its still pretty expensive over here unfortunately, and would take up most of the budget. But. He is a big naruto fan, graphics whore and a fan of multiplayer beat em ups. So i figured it would be a safe bet.
So, what are the opinions around here? Worth getting?
I love the game. The biggest downside is the lack of online, but it's a good game to have to play with friends. If he really likes Naruto he'll love the game.

As mentioned, there is a demo out for anyone now if you want to check it out yourself. 558mb I think.
It's just Naruto vs. Kakashi, but it should be enough to let you appraise the combat. I'm not really a huge Naruto fan, but I'm still seriously considering getting this.
If your friend has an hdtv, this will blow him away.

Actually, we've already played the demo. He was actually really impressed by it. By the graphics and the gameplay. I'm sure he would love the multiplayer. But i'm just curious about the rest of the game. Is the campaign worth playing, and is it a good enough length?
This reveiw Doesn't get into the length specifically in terms of hours, but says there are a ton of missions and collecting. The message I took from that review is that it's nothing new for the Ultimate Ninja games, but if your friend, like me, hasn't played the ultimate ninja games before, then he (and I) should like it plenty.

Thanks very much for help and the link. After watching the review, I think i will go for it. Hes never played the Ultimate Ninja games before. Only Rise of a Ninja.
I thought this game was rather shit. Based on one player and cpu
I tried playing against the AI, after playing a ton of games with friends. I didn't think it held up too well myself. I think it was just too easy. But any time i had a match with friends, i had a blast.
Bringing back from the dead! Sequel came out, and I'm hearing pretty decent things. Online seems to be lagless, 44 characters (Basically anyone important to the series up to the Pain arc) and a lenghty single player with fantastic boss fights.
Biggest complaints seem to be the fighting hasn't changed much, and the changes they made are annyoing people (shorter ultimates, removing clashing) and signle player is not free roam anymore.
Anyone picking it up? I'm getting it for the PS3 in case anyone is up for some matches.
I had considered getting this for 360... but if the Ultimate attacks are still that same "PRESS A BILLION RANDOM BUTTONS TO WIN! NOW WATCH THIS MOVIEEE!" fuck that crap. I was hoping for a more competitive fighter.
My friend bought the original game for PS3 and got pretty good at it, too good... unfortunately, none of us could beat him at it because he had more practice pressing buttons. He ended up trading the game in because none of us wanted to play against him.
It's a shame too, because I was really looking forward to this.
From the youtube videos I seen I noticed most are blockable now, though there's some that are area effect, where if you wander into it you automatically get hit by it.
I picked up Ninja Storm 2 the other day, and it's pretty fun. The story mode is much better this time, and the character lineup is awesome. I'm dissapointed that they ditched the long, ridiculous Ultimate Jutsus though. Still, a fun and beautiful game.
Honestly this game is really really fun. I've put about 13 hours i didn't have into it and just finished unlocking everybody last night at around 2am. Really really fun story mode with only partial grind. Hands down best Naruto game since the really underestimated Narutimate Accel 1/2 (JP) for the PS2
I would actually say it's hands down one of the best licensed games. It's no Arkham Asalym, but there's obviously tons of work put into the game, and it's really fun to play. Online has really been filling most of my time.
I agree, it really shows they fleshed out the game a LOT this time around. I haven't tried online yet, perhaps we should rumble. PS3 or Xbox? From your sig I would guess the latter

Ubi had a lot of good ideas with that one but dropped the ball big time. Random encounters and annoying quests killed it for me.

This is still not a technical fighter. I would put it in the realm of Powerstone. Fun, stylish brawler.
OH! Serious? Okay, I might still get this afterall. Is there a way to block/stop Ultimates?
