I know a lot of planning is going on right now for pre-PAX events as well as stuff going on during the convention, and wanted to point a few things out.

1) It's Labor Day Weekend (DURRRR).

2) Bumbershoot overlaps with PAX.

3) The Oakland Raiders will be playing on Friday night at 7pm in Seahawk Stadium, which is not too far away from the WSCTC.

4) We will be sharing the WSCTC with a small convention known as Gender Odyssey. Looks like they're taking the 6th floor.

What does this mean for you guys? If you are making dinner plans, make a reservation NOW. If you need a hotel, get one NOW. If you are going to a hotel party, make sure you're going to one for the right reason. Parking? You're going to get boned. Plan accordingly. If you plan to do any driving, expect delays on I-5.

Seriously you guys. Seattle is going to be FULL. Be Ready. :D

Most of the crowd for the Raiders game will be cars, not people staying in hotels.
But yeah, you're right, it is a good idea to get reservations for stuff ASAP just as a rule for big conventions like this.
    good call, Liger.

I think Bumbershoot overlapping will be the biggest factor. I'm just glad I have my plane ticket already.

nothing against the glbtq community....but really? come on!!!!

i dont like sharing... i would totally pay like 20-30 more per ticket to not share, where was the 6th floor? if it was the outside place where people smoke have fun! but if not fuck you guys! i dont wanna share this place, last year almost didnt seem big enough as is, and the exhibition hall 2x as big?

i knew about bumbershoot, but usally the good bands are all at the same time, and confusion. ohh and then yu have to listen to lupe fiasco for 2 and a half hours for a little wu-tang clan...no thanks!

And not that I have a problem with Tranny con (I'm gay so I can sympathize a little, I guess), but games of is that really a man / woman on the escalators could be a new PAX game this year.

At least for me that won't be as awkward as the elevator rides at Quakecon last year with the Mary Kay convention ladies, or MILF fest as it was referred to at Quakecon. A bunch of smelly, crude geeks at the hotel to party and swap porn in the BYOC in an elevator with well dressed middle aged women.

Check out the convention centre's website. Their estimated attendance is 500.. seeing as PAX is roughly 40,000 You probably won't notice it at all.

Yeah, I don't think we used level 6 at all last year (I don't recall any ballrooms above the level with the exhibit hall). It's probably going to be so separate we won't know they're there.

We didn't have the 6th floor last year either. I doubt this will make a huge impact on the size of PAX. So as for sharing... I think the only time we'll see our Gender-exploring neighbors will be in the common areas where food is bountiful, and on the escalators. And come on guys, we're pretty freakin' weird. If you think you'll be staring at them, they will probably be staring right back at you.

Considering the wsctc is booked 1-2 years in advance... the cost per ticket isnt an issue.

The 6th floor entrance is the huge long esclator that was closed off (also the stairs on the opposite end) near where registration was last year.

A big portion of PAX attendees are locals in cars, not to mention the supertrippers.

Luckily the Pre-PAX dinner is on an innocuous Thursday night.

YES! Make it shoot extremely oversized foam balls painted like eggs. I'll wear a Toad costume so that I can complete the reference by picking them up and chucking them at you until you spit a crystal ball out of your mouth. =)

Last year we shared the convention hall too, though for the life of me I can't remember what it was. I didn't notice them at all.

I think that as a bunch of video game nerds and weirdos, we can be tolerant of people who deviate from the norm in other ways. They'll probably be snickering at the idea of a room full of people waving DSes in the air to game-themed music, the cosplayers, and the flocks of people carrying plastic guitars. They have a lot more cause to worry about us affecting their convention than we have about them.

They are pretty freaky, those UPS guys walking around in brown shorts, tightly gripping their packages, waiting to deliver them directly to your back door.

And by that I mean parcels being delivered to the rear of your house.
