I'm running through the conductors notes stuff, and one of the requirements on shiki day 3 is "defeat boss noise 88 on hard or higher" which I have now down twice and it doesn't appear to satisfy the requirement. I have difficulty set to hard and my level dropped way down. What am I doing wrong?
There's a hidden boss symbol somewhere. Defeat that instead of the storyline version.
Just in case you don't know, hidden= BLUE noise symbol. You must scan for it (some are in obvious areas, some not so much).
Also, look up at the frequency indicator in the top right corner. If it's completely full (white) there are no noise in the area. If it has one white bar there are a lot of noise in the area. If it is completely empty, that area is where the boss noise is.
That can save some time since you won't have to scan every inch of every area to find it.
Also, you can't chain into a blue Noise battle for the Secret Report (and have it count).
So I've been replaying this game for the first time in almost a year, as I decided that I was going to try and 100% it. This may be one of the hardest things I've ever done in a game, for one reason:
The Darklit Planets, and primarily getting Black Jupiter off of Panthera Cantus. On Ultimate I simply cannot win. Does anyone have any particularly effective builds for taking it down? Alternately is there any other way to get Black Jupiter? In my game, Wildcat sells Black Saturn, so that's not an option unfortunately.
Also getting all the Natural Puppy pins is a pain in the ass.

The cheap way of beating Panthera is to use Joshua as your partner and give Neku the Eden Pin set, which makes him invulnerable as long as he's got the puck. Then it's just a matter of keeping the puck on Neku as much as possible while Joshua pounds the boss with his mega attack.

I tried that, actually, although not with Joshua using his mega attack. I actually equipped him for as few combo points as possible in order to rush him to the Jesus Meteor, expecting it to do some healthy damage. I knew I was screwed when it only took off about 1/4th of Panthera's health.

I did that with Splish Splash Barrier as my final pin. It let me heal whenever I got hit.

How long does Eden keep you invincible for?
Like I said, so long as the puck's on Neku, he can't be hurt. Lose the puck? Get the puck back, and voila, you're invincible again.
They make you suffer for the Eden set, and for good reason.

Make you suffer? Don't you just defeat some of the bosses on ultimate or hard? I don't remember being all "Dammit, I can't get these." Same with the Black Planet pins- sure, my store sold Black Saturn too and I had to defeat Panthera Cantus on ultimate, but it's not that bad if you have maxed out levels, really good clothes, a good healing pin, a good attack pin, Fusions, and a pin that makes the bottom enemy bounce around the screen unable to attack (I believe I used Lolita Bat).
Also, the easy way is to get a lotta money and wait until PAX, find someone who has those pins in their shop, and buy it off them.

No. The whole Eden set comes from one pin you need to level up over and over again. If you get to the final pin of the set and try to level it again the wrong way, it evolves into the first pin of the set, so you have to start all over.
It's really grindy, and wouldn't be worth the payoff if it weren't for how useful it was against Panthera.

Oh right! Yeah, I don't ever use that set, even against Panthera. Just got it for the 100% completion. At least it's not like the Japanese version in which it evolves into a 1 yen coin, eh?

I fished up an interesting strategy from a few pages back:
The pin set is Boomer, Fresh Line, Lefty/Righty/Brainy Cat and a healing pin. I used Peace Full the first time but Splish Splash Barrier might be more useful. Regenerating threads too.
The idea is sort of the opposite of the Eden set. You use Beat and do nothing but block on the top screen and keep up a rhythm of Boomer/Fresh Line on the bottom. Their Grave Marker stuns the Leo in the bottom screen, and with the Cat set, one pin will regenerate while you use the other and you can basically keep the Leo in a constant loop.
The only problem with it is that Beat's block isn't consistant, and since you have to focus on the bottom screen, you sort of just hold down the block button, and the Tigris can slip hits through now and then. Still, I got a lot farther against Panthera than I did with the Eden set, so I might keep it up.
Man if they make a sequel to this they better have The Pillows.
In other news: I was so fucking close to taking down Panthera Cantus that I wanted to break my DS over my knee. I was, without question, one hit away when Beat's defenses failed and I died. I don't think I've ever been so annoyed at a game.
On the positive side, it does prove the effectiveness of the Grave Marker/Cat Set approach.
All right, here is a question for people who are having trouble with Panthera Cantus: Are any of you wearing clothes that boosts Fusions? There are some combinations that can give you up to Fusion level 2, and then you don't have to do much to get level 3. Fusions are your best friends for this battle- just remember to hit the pin while both are on screen; there have been times when I hit it just as the bottom enemy zapped outta view for a split second and didn't do any damage to him. Also, using a slot for one of those pins that automatically heals you when your hp goes below a certain percentage may seem like waste of a slot, but I found it useful.

I ended up having to use all those Eden pins and the Splish, Splash Barrier for healing. Just rely on your partner for damage and heal using the Barrier when your HP gets low.
Whoever came up with the Boomer/Fresh Line/Splish Splash/Cat Set + Beat build is a genius beyond words. I found it a few pages back but I can't remember who or where, but my god did that work perfectly. It still took me a couple tries but it was monumentally less frustrating than Eden + Joshua.
Seriously, if you're having a hard time with Panthera and you aren't that great with Joshua, this might be your ticket to success.
With that out of the way I just need to track down the last dozen or so pins I need.
Makes me think of TWEWY more than anything else. It also pissed me off in the regular game whenever it came up in the final 2/3rds, as it reminded me how I'd rather have Shiki on the top screen than those two chucklefucks. But that is of course the effect they were looking for.
This is the full version. I kinda prefer the simple nature of the in game cut, but still. If you wanted a song to get motivated to kick some ass to you really can't do much better. My head is bobbing just sitting here typing this!
The TWEWY wiki has a handy page on Pin Evolutions, and it summarizes nicely why Natural Puppy can go right to hell:
Well, here's a thought- BPP is easy to get, so is SDPP (it can be manipulated too), and PAX is coming up so MPP will be provided like billio. No prob!
Whoever decided Natural Puppy should evolve like that can go to hell. If you want MPP, just leave the game in mingle mode overnight while you sleep. That's how I got MPP (the only way.)
I messed around with this game at PAX while waiting in line for the old republic panel. Instantly ran into 10 people as soon as I went into mingle mode, every time I went into mingle mode.
Every time this thread reappears my heart leaps at the possibility of it being because TWEWY 2 has been announced. And then when I see it hasn't I die a little more.
I guess one can hope for some news at TGS.
BTW is it just me or does Three Minutes Clapping sound like it contains a sample from Peter Gabriel's 'Shock the Monkey'?
I got this totally on a whim because I read constant praise for it and it was $9.
Holy fuck what is going on.
I'm having some fun, but maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan for someone who's most in depth RPG experience ever was "Skies of Arcadia", it is a whole hell of a lot to swallow.
Another one of those games I'm glad to own, and can see myself becoming obsessed with it - but the dual screen fighting and the pins and the clothes and oh god too much to process right now. It's not a game I can play while taking breaks from Apollo Justice - it's going to need to wait until it has my full attention.

The battles can be a bit hard to swallow (There really is NOTHING like it) but you get used to it after a few days. Pins don't matter all that much unless you want to do crazy endgame crap, so just find yourself a nice slash pin and get hacking.
Opening this thread cost me $10, because I had to go buy the soundtrack after listening to some of the songs again, and I'm tempted to buy the Y900 6-track EP off iTunes JP, which would be another 10 bucks or so.
You really don't need to worry about the top screen at first. Just spam left or right depending on which side the enemy you want to hit is on. As using the bottom screen becomes second nature, you should be able to better divide your attentions.
Besides writing down my stats on a piece of paper and comparing them to every other item in the game is there a way to tell what items are good or bad? I am on day 7 for Neku and really just bought a couple things at random. There are so many choices and stores, what should I be wearing?
Is there a way to see what I currently have equipped when I am in a store or do I need to back out and check my menu?
