[Conjecture On] Only One Game

Mods: Paging about, I didn't find anything quite similar to this thread in this forum. If it's not appropriate, just lock it and I'll see about putting it somewhere appropriate.

Here's the scenario; you can call it a desert island scenario, or solitary confinement, or you're the sole survivor of a nuclear holocaust, whatever you prefer, but the root of it is this:

You get one video/computer game. Just one for the rest of your life. What game do you choose?

The rules; you get any one game, with any downloadable content or expansions available today. No other games, no internet connection. You have the necessary hardware to play the game, so any console, handheld, computer build or the like, and any required peripherals for said game are provided. Mods are, for the purposes of this exercise, not available (you could practically get unlimited playability from the original Half-Life, using 'em), but standalone expansions are okay.

MMOs, naturally, are right out.

So, pick your poison. It could be the game you view as the best, or the one with the most open-endedness, or even some guilty pleasure that you hide from the world under the auspices of seeming sophisticated.

Whatever the case. What's your game?

I would have to say GTA or something like that, I would need the open world-ness to keep me sane. I was going to say crack down but I would just get bored. Maybe the guy-game lolz

Civ 4 with a combination of several mods currently available (that's if Spore doesn't completely blow Civ out of the water).

Mods are out, but I'd agree on the Civ 4 vote.

Baldur's Gate II. So many combinations of classes, races, weapon specializations, alignments, party members... I've *still* never played through as an evil character.

Probably something endlessly replayable, like Angband. Or perhaps another, bigger roguelike such as ToME or ADoM...

    Civ 4.

Seriously, every month or so I go back into a huge Civ4 binge and I could easily play that game for the rest of my life.

There are no improvements that could be made on that game.

I would say dwarf fortress if it was completed. Super Smash Brothers would be a great way to entertain with any other apocalypse survivors though.

If I were to be placed in this apocalyptic wasteland where I only have one game, that game would need to be ToeJa and Earl. In a world of no music, I could deliver my own phat beats in the remix section, eternally sustaining my musical thirst. Every level can be random relinquishing a game's tired duty of getting old. Even if one finally memorizes all the levels, the game is still ra- HOLY SHIT LAWN MOWER MAN! And in such a desolate world, I could call Earl my friend (because I sure wouldn't pick him, that's for the lames).

I would go with the Sims 2, so I could vicariously live out the life of a normal guy who just builds an extraordinarily large and garish house and sleeps with every woman in the neighborhood (and, indeed, has additional girls conjured for him on a regular basis by an unseen overlord).
That is, of course, assuming I'm actually on a desert island or there has been a nuclear holocaust. If there are still other people around to interact with, I'd go with Civ 4 as well.

I would maybe pick this, if it was the version that included world.

But really I could live with just SMW proper, none of that new Luigi sprite BS, none of the GBA version crap.

Maybe FF6 but I think I'd rather have SMW.

The joy it still brings me is unmeasurable.

    What counts as a game?

Animal Crossing with all the NES games unlocked?

RPG Maker was released for the Playstations. I could make my own games.

And if that counts, why not include other programming IDEs? I'm sure some have fit into more of a game category.

Basically anything that lets me wish for more wishes and cheat the restrictions of this "what if" scenario.

    It's a tough call.
I'm hesitating between Guild Wars, Civ4 and AoE2.

I'd need something that can't be actually finished (ok, so you could 100% GW I guess, but it'd take decades).

Yeah, it kinda is. It's pretty much entirely run on instances, though.
Ok then, Civ4 I guess. That, or Super Mario All-Stars (I was gonna say SMB3, the best videogame ever made, but then SMAS has it plus other games).
