PSP projected onto a TV

I have a new PSP Lite (Region 2). Can anyone recommend the best way to project it on a TV? I noticed in the last PA strip they mention having it hooked up to the TV via component. Is there a service that modifies PSP's to make this possible? I've done web searches on this topic, but have only turned up those devices that record the screen, and from what I hear the picture quality is questionable. I'd like to connect it directly.

Apologies in advance if this has been discussed. My friends really want to see Crisis Core, and I'd love to be able to play it and show them on the TV.

Thanks,

Yeah there's a component cable that you hook up to your PSP.

    Here: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10830&cs_id=1083004&p_id=3866&seq=1&format=2

$7.50, around 10 or 11 with shipping/tax. I bought one a few days ago, but it's not in yet.

Assuming it works, that is incredible! Exactly what I was looking for. I thought I'd have to modify the PSP. Thank you!

I have heard you need a TV compatable of Prog. Scan to play games on it though.

That PSP component cable works? I'd love to hook up my PSP to my TV and play Crisis Core on a big screen. :D Wouldn't have to look down so much.

Edit: Damn, that says for Slim. Are there none for a fat PSP?

I picked up the Sony cables at a Best Buy or Fry's when they were released, although the official cables were more like $15 or $20 if I remember correctly.

Playing the games on a big screen is pretty cool.

From what I've understood, the slim version is the only one that works with the component cables.

Does anyone know if there are any variants of the cables that don't require progressive scan?

My TV has it, but I don't know about my friend's.

    Thanks.

Wouldn't a TV that had component cable inputs have to be at least 480p?

Not necessarily. I've got an older tube TV that has component inputs and only does 480i.

I own a slim and the component cable, and I'm using it with an LCD and it works pretty well. The reason that games need progressive scan to work is the non-standard resolution that the PSP uses. The image will not fill your screen unless you have a screen zooming option.

    I did not know that.

Nope. It was a feature added for the slim.

...wait, aren't you one of the few that got a 20GB PS3 with no Wifi, hoping in vain for a Wifi dongle? Ooof, the perils of early adoption.

Haha, yes, I have a 20GB PS3. I don't bother much with wifi anymore, though, since connections are always better wired. Everything is in the same room, after all. I can upgrade the HDD quite easily, too, if I ever need more space. Let's not forget backwards compatibility.

Anyways, the Slim came out two years after the original was released. Don't blame me for getting the system before the newer version. I don't feel like paying 200 just for a slimmer unit with a tv out.

Oh, I wasn't bashing the 20GB PS3 (or the PSP, for that matter), just the fact that it never got a wifi dongle.

I just looked on the Sony Store, and they sell both a component and composite version of the cable. So if necessary, I can fall back on composite for my friend's tv.

I assume both fill the a 4:3 screen horizontally and letterbox the screen to show the correct PSP aspect ratio.

Does anyone know how this works if you have a widescreen TV? Do the cables still letterbox the appropriate amount? I remember hearing that the PSP isn't a true 16:9 format, but something unique to the PSP.

The composite cable will only output the XMB and video content, not games.

The display is letterboxed, and as far as aspect ratio, you can pick to output properly for a 4:3 or 16:9 display, though depending on the display you may have some distortion.

Also, Dashui, the PSP slim is only 169. :)

I use the the component cables to play PSP on my big screen. I was surprised how well it scales, actually. One thing I didn't like about the official cable itself was the length. I don't have any component inputs on the front of my TV (do many people?) so by the time I got it all away around to the back I was left sitting about 3 feet away from my tv.

I ended up buying one of those system selector dealies because it came with a free 6 foot cable and now things work awesome.

So I just got the cable in and it's pretty fucking awesome. It doesn't fill the entire screen (28" LCD TV) but that's alright it's larger than the PSP screen and it's still pretty high quality.

Fine! I just got a gift card from Best Buy for the HD-DVD dealio, maybe I'll consider it. I'll admit, I have custom firmware on my PSP fat for all kinds of homebrew programs and such (notice: not saying anything illegal here!). I hope I can do the same for the PSP slim, because I have some cool stuff running on here.

This is my only complaint, though I didn't think about the system selector as an extension cord. Do they sell separate component cable extenders? I don't feel like buying a second set of cables and then the female/female connectors, but the thought of playing Lumines and DJ Max Portable with a TV and stereo is quite appealing.
