So, my father left behind a fairly expensive slide (like photo slides - projection) scanner. a Nikon Ls-4000 from what I can tell - and they're worth over $1,000. However, there's only one on eBay and I'm looking for a quick sale. Any suggestions for some photography forums or something where for-sale posts are allowed? Or any other ideas?
That's going to be a difficult thing to sell quickly for a high amount as film is becoming a specialty thing among photographers. It is not worth over $1,000 though - more likely less than $600 depending on what accessories you have with it (if you have the auto slide feeder it's worth significantly more). B&H has a refurbed one for $550.
fredmiranda.com for photography buy/sell forums. it's the biggest on the internet, although you have to become a member to list things. That would definitely be the market you're looking for though.

Nay, nay... don't try to sell it to a photographer, that's not where the money is. (Well, there's probably money to be made there, but I don't think that's where you can get a truly decent price for it)
These (even old ones) are expensive and hard to come by, and it's Service Bureaus/archival digitizing companies that are in great need of them.
If you can find Document processing or specialized film/archival processing companies in your area, one of them might be willing to pay good money for it.
