Touch them for a "press x really fast" cutscene. do the lower two first then the top one. they're on the walls of the building, metal rods sticking out.

if anyone's an achievement whore, here's how to get the four endings, each a different achievement:

pick all red choices, then near the end
against symbiote black cat, turn off auto save. beat her pick red, beat game. reload the autosave (during the black cat fight) beat her pick black, beat game.

replay the game do the same, but with all black choices.

I do that, and it goes "Button 1", (which is mouse button 1), so I click, then Spiderman just sort of falls away and the things not destroyed.

in the 360 version the X is kinda blinking on/off which means mash it.

so mash mouse 1 repeatedly. success is pulling out the pin and putting it back in backwards.

recently had a glitch where it wouldn't say x but change camera angles. save/reload fixed that. but you see the mouse 1 button icon so you should be fine.

Ugh, this mission sucks. You need to click ridiculously fast, and the game sometimes doesn't even detect you're next to the thing. And symboties are attacking, so theres a time limit. Fuck this mission.

Sorry. Pressing x was way easier on the controller than you're saying it is with mouse 1.

You press a button fast at this mission, the next mission, and the final mission.

I finally finished this yesterday and got the red path ending with MJ. Started a new game + with all black choices so far.

My spidey's at level 10. Anyone know if level 11 is something worth collecting another 1000 spiders for?

Anyway, this has probably been the only Spider-man game I've actually finished and I absolutely loved the combat system. The storyline made a pretty good setting to justify all the facial-punching. Moreso than the licensed games before it.

The game did seem to chug a bit in the later missions, though. I got the feeling the city was getting a bit too busy. Perhaps using the harddrive install, with the new xbox dash, might fix it, as my dvd-drive was spinning something fierce.

Gamefaqs says level 11 makes you move faster than the city can load. So you'll be running into invisible buildings before they can load.

But I can't take the time collecting 890 more icons for the last achievement.

I had a couple of lockups on me while swinging as fast as a spider can. I would love to get to level 11, but would be afraid of crashing into invisible buildings.

I wonder if its something they could even patch.

I thought the game was pretty damn good overall. I hate the fact that the final boss has QTE's in there. But I would really like to see them make another game with this engine not attached to a movie.

As far as the combat goes, did anyone use the Web Attack then the throw attack much? I only used it a couple of times, the only decent follow up to it was if the guy blocked your initial "Y" attack, jump do it again, then throw, then shoot webs "B" then "Y" again for regular combo.

I also liked the way that the web attacks in the game were pretty effective. Not like SM3 where the little gang leader twats would block or counterattack you on a web attack. You weren't going to kill anyone but you can stop them from attacking for a few moments.

I think next play through Im going to see if I can make my fights cooler looking. See if I can beat on one enemy on the ground, on a wall and in the air.

So I rented the game this weekend and have played a bit into the part with SHIELD and the white symbiotes.

I was going to post some thoughts on how I like the web-swinging and combat, but I should just be honest: I love Spider-man's black symbiote costume, I think MJ is a boring character who has never had a personality, and this game is therefore knowingly pushing all of my black costume fanboy buttons at once, therefore I love it.

Anything I say besides that would just be me trying to justify my fanboyness.

P.S. The boss fights have all been awesome so far.

Eh second playthrough I annihilated everything as black suit. His AOE's slaughter second time around.

And bosses all go down easily with black suit.
LB+Y, YYYY, XXXX, BBBB is enough to get to the next boss cutscene then repeat, and if not... repeat :D

And max level xxx pause xxxxxxx combo is devastating at the start of the game on a crowded street. A dozen cars all flipping and exploding.

I just got this for gameboy, and it's pretty good. However, I'm wondering if the console versions have better exposition. For instance, why does Spider-Man have a symbiote costume, if the original already combined with Eddie? Are there just extras floating around?

Plus, given that Spider-Man must already know that Venom is a Bad Dude, why is he still voluntarily using his own symbiote? Did I miss an opening cutscene on the DS or something?

dunno. there's a DS version thread.

    in the console versions:
very start is a fight with venom and while grappling each other, some of venom's suit just jumps onto him. it's the same effects shown when he's infecting people, so my guess is that spider man was just infected with a new black suit, not venom, per say, but one of his kids

in a talk with MJ he says maybe this time it will be different, it feels different and he thinks he can control it this time. and he thinks he needs it to win against venom. talking with someone else, he says he's been too busy fighting and saving the city to take the time to try and remove it

The Y+Y combo is something that is used a lot. You dont NEED to do it all the time, but there are some aerial sequences when it is necessary.

But you don't need to do it. You have the option to web people up so they dont shoot you, or in the black suit you yank them towards you. But early on I think they kind of force you guys to do it so you can learn. In the beginning there are more thugs with guns, so it is a good move since they dont get many shots at you.

The web strike's useful, but Y+Y usage isn't really common, for me at least. usually I used y+x, with red suit at least. There's maybe two or three sequences where you need to bridge a gap with enemies.

That said, the game's not all that good, and if you don't love you some spidey I'd quit now.

Well for red suit, Y+Y is the best way to attack, other than swing + x.

sometimes i throw it up by Y, pause A to get close and XXX air combo or some such. but Y->B is 0 damage, Y->X is showy, too long, ad less damage than chaining Y+Y many times in a row.

but you can, with most ground enemies, use BBBBBB webbing to freeze them (everyone, even bosses) and run up and combo whatever, but big guys can still block mid combo. i say ground only because it's hard to chase a guy frozen in mid air.

So how does a game with free reign on the story end up being almost as stinted, bad and limited as a movie base Spider-Man game?

And what hte hell hapenned at the start? I thought it was a flashback but no, its mentioned in the early minuites of the game again. So all that shit just gets ignore huh? And the voice acting?

They brought back speed to swinging but its still unwieldly and virtually impossible to do any swinging based attacks.

Or did it just release in Europe?

    Edit:
The DS version is pretty good, but fuck that end-boss symbiote right in his toothy face. I still haven't beaten him, and I consider myself pretty good at this genre of action games.

The beginning of the game is a foretelling of what's to come. I don't know the word for the opposite of a flashback.

And Spider-Man's retelling the story. This is why he speaks as if he already knows what's going to happen.

Well I was referring to the stuff right at the beginning, like there is already a symbiote invasion underway except then theres not, but that stuff hapenned because MJ is still whining at me from hospital.

Someome needs to work Gwen Stacy back in or flat out cut MJ from the next script. Spider-Man DOES NOT need her to have a reason to save the city. Black Cat in Spider-Man 2 was easily a solid romantic interest and character that could have carried the game without MJ's presence.

But yeah, the swinging is ok but wtf? I wasn't told how to walk on a wall until chasing Felicia well into the game. I'm already fighting hordes of generic enemies, on foot or in-car so thats getting boring and the voice acting is terrible. It plays better than Spider-Man 3 but I really thought they had it this time. I should've known better considering the cover art they chose to use.

You learn wall crawling at the start. Push up against the wall to wall crawl. Yeah you learn the mid air wall crawl later. But you can do it beforehand if you know the button or played around with the controls or read the instruction manual. If you're not fighting symbiotes, then you're not at the real game yet.

    MJ
Broke her arm from venom. The "flash forward" is different. You'll notice she has a cast on. Her cast is from where you start the game, fighting Venom.

Its boggles my mind how in a character with a multi-decade spanning history they resort to generic gang bangers and elevate to generic guys in robotic armour with laser guns and then to mechs in every game.

Yeah, yeah I know, I don't make games but I can design them better than these guys. He's got enough low and high tier enemies to have some repeat offenders who pop up randomly. Somehow they also manage to come up with less and less heroic stuff to do and increasingly more "go here, smash these guys" things.

Guys, take Spider-Man 2, inject Spider-Man PS1's unlockable outfits, comic book collects, etc and just come up with some decent fucking side actions. Hell, the Pizaz delivery was at least something to do compared to nothing.

And Black Cat can jump 4 times as far as me...

I respect them for trying to do something different but they've just done more of the same, badly.

Because the same happened with the newest PoP, and while i need the wall crawler in my life, he will have to wait if its the case... some games just cant be enjoyed when rushed i notice.
