This isn't Star Wars. Spider-Man is the hero short of emo moments and What If?'s. Makes it sound like they're actually taking some guidance from the shitacular Friend or Foe. The license really needs to be given to someone else, along with the web mechanics code from 2 because damned if they didn't somehow stop it being fun in 3.
So true.
You had your shot, Activision, but it's time to pass the torch to someone else.
From the interview it kind of makes sense with the choose your side thing. I mean really what would be more reasonable, Spider-man to fight off the aliens or spend all his time protecting everyone?
Seems like he could take both sides rather easily.

Swing from your grave!
New "interview" with gameplay scenes of the new combat mechanics.
Guys, this looks really good. Like, REALLY good. May this be an awesome or even "amazing" (haha) Spider-Man game? I sure hope so!
The webbing doing that spiral thing every time you shoot it? That'll get old.
Swinging from webs that stick to nothing like the PS1 game? Not liking that one bit.
Also, the swinging looks really wonky. It doesn't look like Spider-Man is driven by any sort of physics at all. He shoots the web up, and then just sort of floats.
However, using the webbing to tie combinations together with multiple opponents sounds cool.
Huh yeah, that does look pretty good. I was originally going to make this post expressing questions about 'customizable superpowers', but that video has softened my incredulity somewhat.

It looks like they at least repaired aerial combat back to hte level of Spider-Man 2. But the webbing looks crappy and it does appear he's sticking to thin air. This is also still the game where you get to be Spider-Man and yet pick being good or evil, completely forgetting the whole point of Spider-Man.

Where did you see that? I just don't see where webline is attached into, doesn't mean that it isn't attached to a building.
Same here. The only place where he's somewhere without buildings above him is when he's fighting the Vulture and his goons up in the air, and he never shoots web to nowhere. He just keeps webbing himself up to the various enemies flying around, using them to lift himself out of falling.
Other than that, there are always buildings around. There's even the one point when hes falling off that big building, and he finally shoots his web to pull himself out of the fall, the webbing seems to be directed right up to the upper edge of the building.
Or a very weird Doubles Ice Skating level involving Spider-man attempting to do that "Lotus" move from Blades of Glory.
This.
Also since I'm a whore to all things Spiderman, this is so bought. Also in that once sequence where he's fighting the flying dudes it does look like he's webswinging on nothing, but he could very well be attached to the bottom of one of them I guess. It really doesn't matter to me though, the combat actually looks fun for a change (as opposed to SM3 where black suit spidey had that one punch move that could throw 30 people back..granted it WAS fun to use.).
Who else hated the train fight with Sandman though? The camera always wonked out on me there and I ended up falling to the bottom only to have Sandman escape. Pissed me off so much.

During the fight with the flying dudes, he's definitely shooting his web at them and pulling himself up to them each time, not webslinging off of nothing.
And I think that Sandman fight was probably the second most annoying part of the game for me. The one worse than it was the big fight against the Kingpin. I never did manage to get past that, I spent an hour or two for several days straight trying to do it, and then just gave up on the game altogether. Up until then I had actually generally been enjoying the game quite a lot, but with that fight, it just got terribly tedious.

Yeah Kingpin was a punk, I got past him eventually but you weren't really missing out on much.
SM2 was really fucking great. I spent way too much time playing that. The webbing and locomotion were awesome. I would love a multiplayer race game. The combat was good, but I could see room for improvement.
This new game needs a center camera button somewhere. I still cant believe SM3 doesn't have one. I hope the spidey sense is cool. What I really hate about every SM game since 2 is the double jump.
The double jump in general is kinda silly. It has almost become a staple for many platforming games/characters. It's so prevalent that they might as well take it away since its not unique, just create your game levels with one jump in mind instead of two, same difference.
The reason that Spider-man doesn't need it is because he is practically a human pinball. He can stick to/run on walls, swing all over the place and web zip. What the fuck does he need a double jump for, because every other fucking game character has one? In SM2 the swinging, wall running, wall jumping and web zipping were enough, it was good because it seemed like it was almost possible. Add a double jump to it and it breaks the sense of semi real movement he has and it just looks silly.
I'll probably get this new game day one. I still need to finish SM3.
If I recall correctly, was the double jump in spider-man not even that big of a jump? It was mostly used just to do neat tricks and do special moves, not to mention bounce onto bad guy's heads.
Wasn't the web slinging in SM3 worse than the Slinging in 2 and more like the slinging in Ultimate Spider-man, from what I hear is worse because you don't actually attach onto things.

I'll need to see a lot more footage of this game.

Watch the Wii version be a PS2 port again.
Haha with Spiderman 3 that wasn't such a bad thing though since the ps2 version was the better game.
I never asked for this!
out of curiosity , why was it better?
ANOTHER SPIDER-MAN GAME THAT'S FUCKING GAY OH WAIT IT LOOKS AWESOME
I'm down.
I was happy about it when it was first announced,
shit, the slinging from flying enemy to flying enemy looked badass
I have loved them since Grind Session.
Combat was slightly better and swinging was closer to SM2. Also better QTE events.
I never asked for this!
Ah righto, was wondering if there were big chunks of content different or something. Thanks
Yeah it's basically a completely different game.
Oh and you can switch between red suit and symbiote suit at will but the more times you do it the harder it becomes to take off the symbiote.
I never asked for this!

dream a little dream or you could live a little dream
sleep forever if you wish to be a dreamer
Edit: Although seriously, unless they mess up the controls, that looks pretty fucking cool.
If it helps I think I saw him chuck a police car at some guys.
Oddly I found Spider-man the more fun game.
Am I broken?

No SM2 was the pinnacle of super hero games in my eyes.

It was the pinnacle of super hero game for me, that was until Hulk: Ulitmate Destruction came to the scene but it still holds a close second.
I never asked for this!
Nope. I thought so too at first, but then managed to pause the video just right and got this:

My only reason for doubt is that it's being made by Shaba Games.
