What I hate most about SM3's web-slinging is the web zip. In SM2, it was a two-button combination. Here, it's piled on top of your primary swing button. So once you buy it, you'll be pulling yourself everywhere instead of swinging and it just isn't as fluid or fun.
If I recall correctly, was the double jump in spider-man not even that big of a jump? It was mostly used just to do neat tricks and do special moves, not to mention bounce onto bad guy's heads.
Wasn't the web slinging in SM3 worse than the Slinging in 2 and more like the slinging in Ultimate Spider-man, from what I hear is worse because you don't actually attach onto things.
In 3 the double jump basically slows you down when you do it instead of like in 2 where you were speedy as fuck with that charge jump.
And they lessened the speed and took out the GTA style states in SM3 as well.
I was able to hit like 300-400 MPH in webswinging in optimal conditions, jumping down from Empire State and then accelerating without bumping on buildings. I could do 200 with ease. The speeds you could achieve in that game were awesome. Technically you just went faster and faster the longer you continued without hitting anything.
I started replaying SM3 an hour or so ago. Wow the combat really sucks. I forgot how bad it is. When a little gang mini boss can take your webbing, and pull you towards her, and whack you with a big cartoon hammer . . .
The reflex system and counter hits are ok, but some enemies barely have an attack icon over their head before attacking. The swinging isn't as good as SM2, but its not totally horrible. I can make a list of all the shit they should fix from the past games while making this new one.
My only reason for doubt is that it's being made by Shaba Games.
The Wakeboarding game they made was actually pretty awesome, which is why I have hopes for this game.
they also made grind session
which nobody remembers because of tony hawk but it was awesome and had the best soundtrack
Grind Session was terrible. It did have a good soundtrack. Yes, I remember it clearly. The only good thing about it was the whole stop and free look thing, which THPS didn't do till THPS3.
Other than that, all they've really done is ports and extreme sports games. Oh, and Shrek. Forgive me if I don't trust these guys with Spider-Man.

I guarantee you're the only one that remembered or cared about it.
There was nothing that set it apart. It aped THPS in every possible way, threw in a look feature and the whole "do this combo" lines (which is something that has helped ruin the THPS franchise, thanks). Nothing to write home about. Incredibly forgettable.

Grind Session got some pretty damn good reviews and I thought the demo was really fun. The wake boarding game wasn't bad either. I guess we get to see them grow into new directions now.
It'd be difficult for Shaba to do a worse job than Treyarch. That'd take a truly heroic feat of shitcrafting.
Video does look good, though combat is surely not the most interesting part of the Spider-Man games. Even if it actually was good. I'm also sad to see that double jumping is still in there. I prefer its absence.

Movie Spidey wasn't enough of an annoying nuisance for my liking. I like my Spider-Man best when other heroes are telling him to shut up.
So, just saw the coolest video EVER on Kotaku, makes my pants a-sploooode in delight.
Seriously great looking, cannot WAIT for this shit.
Yeah, I just went over to GameTrailers and watched that vid. I didn't give a shit about this game until I saw that. Now I want it. After the horrible disappointment that was the new Incredible Hulk game, this thing looks like a contender. They didn't show any non-combat web swinging - from what I could tell he just shot a web into the sky and started moving - but we'll see how it turns out.

The one thing I love most about this game is that you can actually fight and walk on walls now.
In the old games you could only crawl or run. But now you can actually stand on the side of a building and have fist fights with people. That really brings a lot to a Spider-Man game.
I've learned by now: don't get excited about superhero games. If eventually one of them turns out to be another Hulk: Ultimate Destruction you'll find out in time and purchase it, so you won't be missing out on anything good and the disappointment factor will be reduced.
That said, the new gameplay video is awesome.
BUT Gamespot made a preview of it and it was one of those previews that are not negative, but transpire that there are some very obvious issues with the game that they're not telling you in case the game improves on them until it's released.
So I'm still focusing on not getting too excited.
Please, please don't make me get excited. I've managed to not buy Iron Man or Hulk yet.
I got Ironman about three weeks ago for my birthday. I got through two missions and haven't looked at it since.
That's funny, exact same number before I took it back. ANd I borrowed it. For free.
And reading the company spiel on wikipedia, the game sounds just ...so.....I mean granted its the story not the gameplay but hasn't Venom been the boss now for the last 2 games? Still haven't beaten Doctor Carnagepus. Bad ass.

I never asked for this!

That little CD-ROM Edutainment title was worth it's weight in oil. Oil I say.

Actually, Ultimate Spider-Man would have been perfect had they not touched the swinging at all. Maybe a slighty bigger city to boot too.

god now that you mention it you're right

No, not for Spider-Man it isn't.
See: any stories dealing with the symbiote, or Spider-Man 3.
I never saw SM3, but that alternate story where Peter becomes a mercenary and kills people was pretty damn cool.
They made Grind Session, Shrek Super Slam and some wakeboarding game. They also did (inferior) ports of THPS3 and Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX.
and of course the ports were inferior, they were ps1 games
Didn't say the inferiority was Shaba's fault. Mat Hoffman was a great game, but porting it to a handheld has to be a bitch.
Problem is they seemed to be doing one or two moves over and over again, but it is still early in development so hopefully there will be more to do
I am going to maintain a high level of cautious optimism for this game

From work.
Yeah, the graphics aren't really that good.
