I never got past the Kraven fight. That was where it become more frustrating than fun.
So David Jaffe, of God of War Fame wrote a blog regarding Marvel superhero games.
His argument is that he's tired of the sandbox type games, and that the game makers should focus on the story and characters instead.
I kinda disagree. I mean, yes I would love a great story in my marvel games, but at the same time, take Hulk Ultimate destruction. I could care less about the Hulk as a character, he just doesn't interest me in the slightest bit. But I love the game solely because of its gameplay.
With Spiderman, he's one of my favorite characters, but again, I rather see him in a sandbox environment, because how else are you going to do it? God of War action style?
But anyways, he attached two pics in his post, one showing Luke cage, and the other it looks like
He's entirely right though. I liked Spidey 2's story, at least the Black Cat arc, it at least felt like something else was going on in the world and there were criminals ouside of the pre-set gangs. Theres no real reason why people like Rhino and Shocker can't keep escaping from jail and turning up outside the story. Little touches that make the world feel less like an exercise in killing enemy-npc0319 with your upgraded boost kick move.
Dunno why they haven't done Sinister Six or something either.
I'll be more impressed when Rhino can run through an office block leaving a tunnel of destruction behind him or the GG can grab you while gliding and hurl you into the side of a building with mass shattering of glass and crumpling behind Spideys limp body.

Or when the Vulture sends you sprialing to your doom, or having to choose who is the real chameleon, anything with the chameleon really, I could go on all day.

I'm sure we all just want to see Spidey run out of web fluid at the most hilarious moments.
Yeah but they impede free form swinging if you want to just muck about from building to building.
There could be some sort of mini-game to replace the cartridge before you fall and die.
I can see that going wrong.
"Hey, im jumping from the top of the ES building, Im gonna wait till near the end and ZIP to safety!"
"Z-...no flui...SPLAT"
They need to work more on creating things for him to protect with a priority lock on. So say Doc Ock is hurling passengers from a train, you switch lock ons and it LOCKS ON to them, not doc ock and not a guy on the street and you zip them and carry on swinging.
And they need to remove blocking enemies. I don;'t care if they compensate with hundreds of enemies but bad guys who can block Spider-Mans strength? And I;'m not talking Kingpin here, I'm talking the leader of that areas chapter of the mafia or whatever and just basic enemies. That shit just doesn't fly.
They need a full rogue gallery present for one. Epic boss battles, possibly taking place across the city where plausible (GG, GG2, HG, Venom, Carnage, Ock, etc.). Mysterio seems more like a contained area baddie. I guess depending if it was done well, Venom and Carnage might be better in enclosed areas to simply for the fear factor though chasing or being chased (well) in a finale would be exhilirating and not in a "We need to get to doc ocks base in record time but if you dont have max swinging or don't do it perfectly on an exact route you're fucked" way.
Some environment destruction, not on the scale of the Hulk and destroying buildings but if enemies could slam you into a building or vice versa and you see some actual impact and feedback, that would be awesome.
Full supporting character gallery, preferably sans the MJ relationship. Don't care if its hinted but it needs to be independent of hte movies and preferably the comics because it always seems to boil down to race missions with her OR/AND the villain uses her as a bargaining chip. What hapenned to end of the world/city and your constant doom hanging over you? Its a tired story-line thing, in most areas but especially in Spider-Man, it was the finale of every single film.
Cameos.
Unlockable costumes and I don't mean Venom suit without restrictions.
A 12#/Teen rating. I mean do we know who this is aimed at yet? Friend or foe people or normal people?
Wolverine wouldn't suit Cronenburg at all, frankly. Far too one-note a character. Punisher could conceivably work, but it'd either be a re-do of History of Violence or it'd be terrible.
Spider-Man, however, would be a retread of The Fly, and this would be amazing.
People who say web cartridges wouldn't work: Have you already forgotten Spider-Man for PS1? Web cartridges for webbing up enemies and techniques, limitless amount for swinging. I thought that was a great system.

I'd like to see Venom as a playable\unlockable character. I mean, honestly. How hard would it be to do that?
Really theres no reason that there can't be a whole host of unlockable characters and costumes. Even if they end up overpowered, they're most for dicking about with anyway. Carnage and Venom for example can function exactly the same way as Spider-Man for the most part. Fliers, no real difference except hovering instead of sticking.
I will tell you what needs to happen. Spider-Man has incredible agility, super-strength, super-speed and reflexes bordering on pre-cognition.
Now that MGS is done, Kojima needs to make a Spider-Man game.
Fixed.
I really don't want to imagine what it would be like for the person responsible for MGS4's combat to get ahold of the Spider-Man license. I enjoy MGS4 for what it is, but Tycho's description of combat controls as "punishment" is exactly how I feel.
Ninja Gaiden, on the other hand, is how superheroes are supposed to fight. Or DMC4, if that's the flavor you're looking for.
Implementing characers who flew would definitely be a lot harder though if you wanted them to actually fight though. I'd imagine the whole lassoing and then pulling would seem terribly awkward. Maybe I'm wrong.
It just seems like they already have the black suit in there with all of the tendril effects and crap, so all they'd need to do is make a skin and a model, and maybe toy with the hit detection animations.

Not really. Don't forget GG was actually unlockable in the first game, though he made the game incredibly easy. You don't get pull moves anymore, you get shit loads of grenades and missiles instead.

So are you going to tell me why this is laughable?
I realize there is more to is than what I said, but honestly, the meat and potatoes of it is there. It's not like they'd have to completely redo the game to add him as a playable character since he would play and handle exactly the same.

Oh, sorry, I thought you were being ironic. :S
Stuff like this is decided way in advance and it really isn't that simple. I'm assuming you were talking about Venom?
Venom would animate completely differently and have an entirely different moveset. A whole new set of voices/sounds would have to be created, and his moves would have to be balanced so people wouldn't just play as Venom the whole time. We already had Ultimate.
My point is that it really isn't as simple as you make it out to be. If you were arguing for an unlockable Venom costume that Spidey wore then fair enough, but a new character requires a rewrite at the design document level.

the fact that you want carnage in a game pretty much invalidates everything else you've said.

What does this game need?
Playable Black Cat.
(Black Cat is also what the next Spider-Man movie needs. Eliza Dushku.)
