I always thought there was nothing exactly wrong with carnage, he was just a really uninteresting villain. He's just a crazy evil space creature, and there's not much you can do with that that's interesting.
I used to like that one. But now? Naaaaah. Definitely a mid-90s grungy super-hero cash-in. I liked him better in the very beginning of the Scarlet Spider line where he just had the mask, and the rest of his costume was street clothes. But that's not saying much.
The other Scarlet Spidey costume shown was probably my favorite spiderman costume overall, I just like that big spider there in the center.

I don't like the other one because it's too much like the other spidey suit. I just like the way this one is, however an all-red suit would be cool too.

You do realize that Venom is the primary antagonist in this game, right?
And I'm talking about him being something you unlock for beating the game or doing something ridiculous not from the get-go.
I'm not saying they can just snap their fingers to make him playable, but a lot of the assets are probably already there, and you'd think they'd put two and two together in the design stage and realize that they could add more replay value by recycling some assets like that.
Oh shit, what? I thought it was Spidey fighting the symbiote suit and Venom wasn't involved. My bad. >.<
Are you being facetious? I can never tell these things over the internets.
Psh, I love that version. It's more nostalgia than anything. I was but a wee lad when the Clone Wars was happening. I could barely read, and I thought Scarlet Spider was the bees knees.
So as someone who doesn't really keep up on the comics (though I'm starting USM), what's so bad about Carnage?
I was under the impression he was a popular character.
Theres nothing wrong with him. He looks cool and has cool powers and is a homocidal maniac. People just like to hate stuff.
Carnage doesn't have powers. The symbiote justs throws hardened chunks of itself as weapons. It can't even make street clothes like Venom.
Oh unless you mean that time they showed that symbiotes can fight each other on the internet by going through the computer screen.
I also do like to hate stuff. Just the awful stuff though.
Iron Man didn't have powers either until Extremis. It was just a suit. Its not much of an arguement and I can't defend what stupid writers do, its not isolated to Carnage. Look at the Sentry and his continued existence. I'm not trying to defend him, but as a kid I did think he was cool, him and Venom and Carnage Octopus at the end of the PS1 Spider-Man game was a bad-ass scene, that chase was intense. He is capable of posing large scale threat that I wouldn't expect from the likes of Scorpion so I jsut thought he could be good in a game and I was naming him as part of a large rogue gallery which is heavily underutilised. Especially when Venom has been the boss in some form for Ultimate and Spider-Man 3 already and there are numerous plot lines and freaky stuff that can be explored outside of symbiote possession, again.

Listen I'm not trying to be a jerk here you can defend Venom he was a good concept once and could be again. Carnage however never had anything going for him expcet the whole " he's a crazier venom" thing.
If he's in the game I truly hope that it's not more than a boss fight.
Also :
I was naming him as part of a large rogue gallery which is heavily underutilised.
Yeah uh by underutilized you mean whored out to the point that even casual readers were happy he died? That's like saying Wolverine is underutilized.

You don't actually think hes dead do you? There was nothing in there. He doesn't appear often because of the level of destruction that has been attributed as capable by him so its quite easy to write off a chunk of symbiote and bring him back when he hasn't been whored out as much. Wolverine is whored out to the max, possibly the most of any comic character in any company and people still whore him out further. In fact I would't be surprised if he turns up in this game. Except that leaves one less boss fight to have and me likey boss fights.
not to TOTALLY de-rail this thread into comic book territory, but I loved Carnage after reading both Carnage: Mindbomb and Carnage: It's A Wonderful Life. They're two 1-shots from like the late 90's that are totally insane and totally totally awesome. They should have just done a book about people trying to analyze him, and seperate the sybiote from the person, because they were great stories.
But, back to the game...
I'd love to see a game that uses just everyone. As much as people seem to hate the storyline - I still think Maximum Carnage for Sega Genesis was one of the best ever, because it had EVERYONE.

Yeah, I mean, how many versions of the spidey suit can they make. At least this one has some coolness factor to it and isn't just rehashed.
But I mean, if you want to be a follower like that.

Looks like Spidey themed dragonball z combat wise and fighting slews of green goblin clones is meh. Ether way, still a tad excited for it and I hope it turns out good.

Meh. I mean I understand the concept of having generic enemies but god am I tired of it. Can't I have levels where the entire idea is a big knock down drag out fight with a super villan and not have to fight "Thug G" forty seven times before hand?

bit off topic, but that's what they're doing with the new Prince of Persia, and it sounds amazing. It really is time for the focus on enemies to be angled away from quantity.

I agree.
While I like what they are doing with the combat system (how it fluidly moves from land-wall-air) I think devs need to realize soon that the most exciting parts of the movies and comic books were the big fights against super villains that spanned like, half of New York.
What they should really do with this engine is make a new Spider-Man game structured like Shadow of the Colossus, where every level is you fighting a member of the sinister six. I would definitely support that.

Random thugs can work but only where it makes sense. If I was busting up a drug smuggling operation then yeah a bunch of these guys should be hanging around. If I'm trying to find Norman Osborne fighting a legion of robots with his face makes no sense.

Yum.
minus the neat extra arm things
Are there actually many suits that changed anything about spidey's abilities? Venom and the Civil war one...
But it's only appeared once, in a What If?, so it's doubtful we'll ever see it again.
