Yay, look, the PSP has charted for the first time in forever.

Also, look at GH III for the Wii. It's becoming unstoppable. I hope it buries the lazy ass RB for Wii.

Good God, COD4 is still charting!

PSP finally charted software too - all it took was two games with such huge development and production values combined with ad campaigns that rival major console releases... Course the US has never been "huge" on portable software.

Guitar Hero 3 for Wii continues to impress with its marathon runner legs. That game was released 6 months ago or so.

Also, the PS3 had a short run in leading the XB360... I honestly expected it to do slightly better than the 360..

Average per week for both consoles went down-

    360 from 63k to 52K, PS3 from 70K to 51K.
    What were Pachter's predictions?

    So to sum up...

1 - Brawl sold about as well as all of the top 10 non-Wii games COMBINED. And these weren't small games either: Rainbow Six 2, Army of 2, Crisis Core, God of War PSP...

2 - The Wii sold about 40% more than the 360 & the PS3 COMBINED.

3 - The DS does phenomenally well despite an absence of any big new titles.

4 - The PSP saw a nice boost from God of War & Crisis Core.

5 - The 360 and PS3 are neck to neck with monthly sales, but are being so far outpaced by the Wii it's laughable. Major price drops soon?

According to Patcher, the PlayStation 3 sold 365,000 units, while the Xbox 360 ended the race with only 310,000 sold consoles. In the mean time, the Wii is credited to have sold around 700,000 units.
Pachter was actually too bullish with the PS3 and 360. He is usually rather conservative.

Where people are looking for inexpensive means to access many inexpensive games, as well as major games like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and the latest Sports games, they're not going to shell out $400..

The PS3 is really the best buy for a BR player, right? Even if the PS3 didn't take off as far as selling games goes you'd think that it's hardware sales wouldn't be quite so pathetic.

The difference between those two is meaningless. Only important in that the PS3 needs a strong lead over the 360 if it ever wants 2nd place in the U.S. And we don't know how many of those PS3 were sold as BR players.

Absolutely - COD is the new Halo, but comes out on more stuff.

Isn't COD5 going to be another 'between Infinity Ward' releases, by Treyarch, and coming out on every console? Like the PS2, Wii, 360, and PS3? I could be wrong.

The market for people willing to spend $400 on what most see as a fancy DVD player is still very, very small.

It's really close enough that the statistical margin for error makes it a draw. Interesting, since it sets the stage on even footing for GTAIV, though we'll only get a few days of sales from that and Mario Kart.

May's NPDs, with those and Wii Fit, I'm pretty sure will bring down the Internet. All our megahurtz will be stolen!

This is kind of cheating, because Smash didn't have a world wide launch, but this is for the people that thought Smash could never have a hope of outselling or as selling as well as Halo 3.

According to the Wikipedia (yeah, I know), Halo 3 sold 5 million copies world wide within a month of it's sale.

If you add the US' first month Smash Sales to Japan's, you get 4.224 million units. Pretty close to Halo 3's first month. The game hasn't been released in the UK or AU yet either, and that's likely to add substantially to the first month sale number.

Call me crazy, but I think Smash will probably have a longer shelf life then Halo 3 anyways.

Probably because Infinity Ward are making COD6 (or my guess it that it is much more likely to be be COD : subtitle underscore - the 6 is a little offputting)

I mean, COD4 has easily sold more than Halo 3, and while yes it is multiplatform, it has sold more than Halo 3. And consistently sells it month on month on just the 360. And its top of XBL most played charts consistently.

    That's big.

COD4 may well be as said it is just the new Halo. preposterously huge numbers for cod4.

Fuck. May is going to break the 720k record, I think. If N gets enough units out.

I think the Xbox360 crowd has a pretty large appetite for something like GTAIV. I really honestly think the 360 version is going to sell significantly more than the PS3 version.

But fuck. May is going to be even more ridiculous than this.

Not including games sent to me or given to me, I have bought over 30 360 games alone, and another dozen PS3 games.

And I'm not rich by any stretch.

Well, shit. I was just crunching the numbers from last month and this. You'd think that the PSP, with 2 big releases, would perform better. They stayed essentially flat.

    PSP sales Feb = 243k
    PSP sales Mar = 297k

    Weekly sales

    Mar (5 wks) = 59.4k

Meh, really, everything is doing pretty well. At first it looked like Sony really fucked up with the PS3 and maybe even the PSP. Now the PSP is killing in Japan (and hangin' steady in the US) thanks to a few high-profile releases and the PS3, regardless of what people buy it for, is chugging along nicely. The 360 is still doing whatever it does.

All three consoles and both major handhelds have built up respectable libraries, support is steady, sales are steady...
