Couple of interesting tidbits today. The first, and least interesting, is a small article talking about how Blizzard says there's no reason Conan and WAR can't suceed right alongside wow, and that they think WoW will eventually be surpassed at one point. Nice to know they haven't let success go to their heads. Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=140893
The second, and most interesting, is Blizzard talking about their thoughts on a graphical update for WoW.
Eurogamer: Do you think WOW is ever going to need a complete overhaul of the engine?
J. Allen Brack: That's actually something we talk about every expansion. It's interesting, two games have really tried that before, Ultima Online tried it and EverQuest tried it as well, and in each case it was only somewhat successful. In each case a lot of people continued to play with the original client, because it was faster, or they preferred it, or were just used to it or whatever. And so for me as a game developer, the idea that we would spend so much time and energy on something and have people go, "meh, that's not really for me," that's not very exciting.
So I don't think there's really a clear model as to how to do that successfully. The model we have with Wrath of the Lich King allows people with high-end machines some additional graphical effects, and then we'll have some kind of fallback for the people who don't. Will we need a graphical update from the ground up at some point? Yep, probably. And I'm positive we'll talk about it next expansion
If it'd come out earlier, it might've been a bigger hit with people.
Ventrillo will always be the prefereed method for guild raids and parties, and for PuG's you either do well enough without (due to the gear and experience level most people already have with the instances) or you suck it up and do a little typing.
Typing out a massive boss explanation is often less painful than screwing with the built in VOIP system.

most of the teams on tich rolled alliance for fear ward. Once fear ward was given to horde (and gnome escape artist cooldown doubled) most of the top teams rerolled or went back to horde Undead for the racials
i had completely forgot about fear ward proliferation
Priest racials are still completely incomparable between factions. Desperate prayer needs a good nerfin'.

I still love my troll racials, plus the fact im a troll > any racial
My one big regret in playing WoW for over two years is that I never had a long term Troll character, they are one of the coolest races to be. It gets old seeing tons of Undead and Blood Elves afterawhile.
Also I half want to slap myself, when I saw the picture up above I instantly went to click on it to see the stats.
That's how you know you had it bad at one point.

Amusingly, what he describes is what happens to every guild that wants to somehow progress, at some point in time.

Raiding. I support it in concept but not in execution. Getting 20+ people together to accomplish something and have a good time? Hell yes, sign me up. I've done it before, enjoyed it at times... hell, for awhile I was even in one of those "server first" raiding guilds at the bleeding edge of things.
Problem is, Blizzard tunes things so that it takes 100+ attempts to down one boss, meaning that guilds who want to "progress" schedule 5-hour raids 5 days a week. No thanks. It's work at that point. Damn near a full-time job between that and off-raid gearing/farming for enchants/gems/consumables/repair money.
I can't blame anyone for being attracted to the concept but getting sick and tired, stressed and frustrated with the schedule and sheer beating-head-into-brick-wall-ness of it. Inevitably this causes drama and guilds collapse.

Was DnT the guild that Tigole was in?
I agree with the above I have been in guilds that were fun but raiding seem to take too much to do at times
I have been in guilds that I still question why I stayed in
Raiding was pretty cool back when I didn't have a job, but I can't base my schedule around a video game.
We never raided one instance 5 days a week though. There would be optional ZG and AQ20 runs for gear, but we only did BWL, then AQ40, then Naxx 2 days a week. Beat BWL and AQ40, guild collapsed in Naxx.

It does. I've seen the exact same post that was on their site made many times. It almost always happens.
You get people who are concerned with the gear moreso than anything. People who feel entitled to loot, and expect to show up, one shot, and then move on. Then you wipe on a boss, and they all disappear until you magically beat it, and then they come back in droves asking "Where's tha loot?"
I can't wait for WotLK. The ability to actually do content with just a core group of players? Yes, please.

Has anyone heard of Paradosi? or its GM George? I used to be in that guild and that guy is famous for some reason. I think he had a pvp video where he was rampaging through WSG as a MS warrior chopping people down left and right with 3 healers following him around like it was some big feat.
Anyway, Paradosi was the top horde guild on the server, and when progression stagnated, the dude server transferred to be in a guild that was moving faster. The kicker is, he just transferred back to our server with the intention of restarting the guild, and people are actually lining up to follow him again. I don't understand it. He was not a good leader. His officers did most of the raid leading while he didn't know some pretty simple class mechanics. He abandoned his guild to be a member of a better one. And yet he's like a god on my server. probably 90% of the horde have him on their friends list just so they can see when he's on. It boggles my mind. I never was one for idol worship though...
I've heard of George before, however it's mostly from his PvP video(s). That said, you're not the first person to say he's significantly less impressive outside of the unrealistic PvP he's known for. I don't mean to say I've heard it all before but I've played with some of the more notable people on my server, and have been consistently less than impressed with them from both a performance and personality standpoint. I've found in general that people that gain a bit of e-fame end up having huge egos and are assholes.
Levelling my prot pally has become a lot harder since entering Outland. I feel like I'll be stuck in HFP forever
The first couple levels were hell for my enhance shaman. I was still wearing shite greens from the old world that were anywhere from level 35-50, a 48 blue weapon, and a 40 blue weapon. I could barely kill a mob and for some quests I had to get my main to clear out the massive hordes of trash so I could get to a quest mob. I died more times from 58-60 than I did from 1-58.
But.. it seems to be going a little better now that I'm using a couple outlands green weapons and have swapped out about half of my armor.
Going from less than 200k for 59-60 to ~500k for 60-61 is still a cunt, though.
