So I'm officially a happy camper.
I had a postive meeting with the bank today about my mortgage, and I bought a PS3!
I picked up a 40GB, Rock Band, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for as much as an 80GB with tax.
Right now EBGames has a promotion where any game worth $8.00 and up is automatically raised to $25 in trade, so with the five games I traded in I got $107 in trade! $670 of stuff for $560.
Now all I need is an HDMI cable so it will stop looking like ass...
So, any tips on making my PS3 experience better?
And what is the best way to stream music and movies from my computer to my PS3?
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!

It is the "easy" way, proboably not the best.
Heavenly Sword,
Unchartered,
Resistance - mostly for the MP though
Dual Shock 3 (when it's stocked)
A PSN account
A couple of Blu Ray Discs
...annd Grand Theft Auto 4 which is just around the corner.
Tumblr
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Resistance: Fall of Man
Eye of Judgment (if you like CCGs)
Folklore
Tiger Woods 2008 (if you like golf, seriously, it's pretty cool)
Rock Band
Heavenly Sword (although this could be a rental)
Edit: I also recently bought a house (or, rather am in the process of buying one) so congratulations!
But go buy Uncharted, Folklore, and a Dualshock 3
And Ratchet & Clank is a must! Do get!
I know what games are recommended, and I'm playing several. But I know the system is capable of doing a lot of stuff I haven't even bothered checking into yet.
Pixeljunk Monsters is also awesome.
Warhawk is all tons of fun. I debated picking up a dual shock too, still not sure though. And uncharted is really, really good. I'm very surprised by how likeable the characters are almost right away.
PSN: SirGrinchX
Oculus Rift: Sir_Grinch
A dualshock is necessary IMO. I've never been able to get used to the ridiculously light weight of the SIXAXIS compared to the 360 or PS2 controllers. The lack of rumble is an issue too. Everything just feels... wrong. I really think it's worth the $55... I just wish I could find one.
Hopefully before P3:FES!
Resistance I enjoyed alot. Preaty sure the demo is of the first level which is realy unforgiving. Everything else that has been mentioned is great too.
Luckily for purchasers the Dual Shock 3 will come with every unit. They're not going to make any more Sixaxis controllers. They'll just sell through the stock that includes them and the ones on the shelves and that's it.
Devil May Cry 4
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction
Resistance: Fall of Man
Uncharted
PSN games I'd recommend:
Everyday Shooter
flOw
PixelJunk Monsters
Super Stardust HD + Solo Pack
And random things I'd recommend:
- Themes - Download them, put them on a USB drive under "/PS3/THEME", plug the USB Drive into your PS3, go to the Theme Options and Install them. I'd really recommend the Shadow of the Colossus one, it's amazing.
- Create a Japanese Account. It'll let you download the Yakuza 3 (Ryu ga Gotaku Kenzan) demos and any other Japanese demos that come out in the future.
- Download the upcoming games trailers from the PS Store. Personally, I love the Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Infamous, Killzone 2, MGS4 and LBP trailers.
..Begin paying off your loan? OLOL GET IT!??!
OT: TVersity is amazing, and everyone should get it.
Go buy Warhawk. Now.
I suggest spending the extra 12 bucks as well to grab both expansions (Omega Dawn and Broken Mirror).
Monoprice
no really, I mean Monoprice.
go
Now
Also, get the expansions
What are you still doing reading this message? You should be off buying Warhawk.
skip Uncharted
But the demo was just one big firefight in a jungle. I didn't love that.
The thing is, the puzzles and adventure are fun (although lacking in replayability) but the gunfights are just annoying bottlenecks.
Sorry.
Not true.
Even I pre-ordered, and I have zero intention of buying thegame.
Oh, but the sweet, sweet, free beta...
Uncharted is still one of the best experiences on the PS3, it's just not as god-like as people claim. Honestly, and I know I sound like a broken record by this point, I think Heavenly Sword is my favorite PS3 game (not counting CoD4). HS is short, yes, and those stupid Kai twing-twang missions aren't too much fun, but I feel the game got a really bad wrap. People went in expecting Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry, when it's neither of those. It's a straight up, old-school Beat 'em Up remade in dazzling 3D. And I mean that in every way possible. If you go into this game expecting Streets of Rage in 3D (including in terms of length) you shouldn't be disappointed. It's even got super moves. In a thread not too long ago, someone asked why we haven't seen any good beat 'em ups lately. I.E. a beat 'em up given a top-dollar budget. HS is the answer to such cries.
You know a game is underrated when one of the most common complaints is "it ends."
Which, by the by, still won't update for me.
"It ends" and "It's way too short to be worth $60" are not the same thing. HS was great. It makes the perfect rental. But that's really it.
The problem was that it is a solid B+ to A- that was proclaimed as an A+. It isn't a bad game, but it also just isn't for everyone. I reccommendthat everyone try it, but running out and buying it blind is NOT a good idea.
Well, I'm a bit biased since I refuse to rent games ever. Every game I play is purchased (And please don't turn this into a "you should rent games" topic because I'm tired of defending my stance)
Even at $60, I think HS is a worthy game. I don't think it's an A+ effort (I'd classify few games as A+) but it's defintely an A- for me, and maybe a B+ for others (accounting for personal tastes). I just get annoyed to see it constantly slammed, or passed off as a C game because people wanted it to be something it wasn't. It's like knocking a fighting game for not having any RPG elements.
I'm with Evander and TSR (and Yahtzee iirc). Uncharted really didn't do anything for me. It was very, very pretty, and that's about it. The story was just one lame cliche after another, and so was the "gameplay".
It certainly wasn't "bad", but it did absolutely nothing for me, and I returned immediately after I beat it. If you really really liked Gears of War, and want to play it all over again in a more light-hearted setting, Uncharted is the game for you.
Everyday Shooter is made entirely of win. Download it!
Man this is a great time for gaming.
I have to ask then. What did you think of MGS2? I'm personally very skeptical of MGS4, just because I thought 2 was so unbelievably bad, and MGS4's media makes it look just as weird.
I was able to download the beta, but as soon as you begin it, it asks you to upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1, and both options for downloading hang (peer to peer or http).
And, to clarify, I don't hate uncharted, and it didn't "not do anything" for me. It was a pretty fun game, just not the second coming I expected.
I generally classify games into 4 categories - shit games (stuff like shovel-ware, Far Cry on the wii), average games (stuff like Shinobi on the PS2), good games (like Dead Rising on the 360), and AAA games (stuff like Mass Effect on the 360). Each category doesn't necessarily mean a game isn't fun (for example, I thought Shinobi was a blast, and actually had some stupid fun with Far Cry) but differences in budget and execution separate them.
Obviously something like Mass Effect was made with a massive budget compared to Far Cry Wii, and they had entirely different aims for what the released game would do. I believe we judge a system based on it's AAA efforts. Likewise, I believe that people wanted Uncharted to be a AAA game (since the PS3 lacks in this area compared to the 360) when it was simply a very good game. Likewise, I believe games like MGS4, FFXIII, and GT5 will be sony's main AAA games, not stuff like uncharted.
Even after playing the game twice, the shooting still stands out as one of my favorite aspects of the game. I could spend all day ducking behind rocks and walls, popping out and popping caps. But agree to disagree, etc.
I don't think anyone says that the story is phenomenal, but rather the presentation. The plot was pretty much by the numbers, but the acting and direction were really good compared to other games out there. At the very least, they managed to get me to like the characters and want to help them. Again, something a lot of games fail at, IMO.
And the story intentionally sets out to be the classic, light hearted B movie adventure. And it nails it perfectly.
I don't care if you didn't like it because everyone has different tastes of course. I don't care if people are vocal about not liking it...again it's a forum. But at the very least give it's due and don't say it's just like GoW because it has a cover system.
