Assuming Taven's ending in the last game was canon, then it means that all of the MK fighters are now stronger then ever, which would probably explain why they can go toe-to-toe with some of DC's characters.
I'd say this had potential if anyone other than Midway was making it. MK is the only fighting series which has gotten consistently worse over the years. From MK 2 it went down (well, I guess UMK3 has its fans, but God knows why), then it went up again with Deadly Alliance (which was still shit), and then it went significantly down again from there.
They're complete hacks.

All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.
That's an uproariously stupid statement. Deadly Alliance was a great game with a pretty unique mechanic for a fighting game and had pretty kickin' graphics rendered by Critereon's engine. Yes, it's still the trailer trash of the genre but to outright dismiss them doesn't bring much to the table.

But what do I know? lol mksux
I loved Deadly Alliance
Though, man, anyone who thinks it went down hill after that is indeed correct. Deception and Armageddon were mediocre for me, and I couldn't get into them the same way.
Yeah but DC is awesome and MK has always been a subpar fighter. So why is everyone excited? For Fatalities (Which won't happen)?
Because it could be an absurd crossover fighter that has the potential to be a lot of fun to play with friends? Not everything has to be Virtua Fighter.
I, for one, can't wait to rip the beating heart out of Wonder Woman's chest, slice off Aquaman's head, or tear The Flash's legs from his body and beat him to death with them.
DC's characters may be.
DC as a company are a monstrous, soulless entity. Try going to any panel or press event by them.
I saw one where Grant Morrison started yelling at a guy in the crowd in his barely understandable Scottish accent.
It was pretty awesome, I don't know what you're talking about.
It depends whether it is DC writers or DC staff on the panel.
If writers, they're lovely.
If writers plus staff, the writers shut up with nervous sideways glances whenever they seemed to be getting to anything interesting and the staff go on and on about PR rubbish.
You can go find the original Street Fighter 2 for 30 cents at some kid's flea market and have a better fighter on your hands than Deadly Alliance.
Now come on, that's not fair. You could say the same of practically any fighting game. There are still those who swear SFII is still the best fighting game ever, and there's merit to that claim.

How exactly was it great? It was something new, and it felt refreshing at the time, given just how utterly horrid the previous MK game had been. I was looking forward to it as much as the next guy, because, believe me, despite its faults, I was once a huge fan of MK.
Granted, I'm well-versed in the genre, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a simple game if it's fun. Deadly Alliance, and all the subsequent MKs, were complete trash. They were decent efforts from a presentation perspective, and, sure, having three fighting styles for each character was unique. But... so what? The games didn't play any better than the 2D ones; they had more variety, but you're still seeing the same stupid dial-a-combo shit and character homogeneity which doesn't feel fulfilling or technically competent. Only now you're switching stances.
I can buy that you like the games. I can buy that you find it entertaining to unlock all the shit, and have fun with your friends. That's fine. But they are by no measure of quality great games. You can go find the original Street Fighter 2 for 30 cents at some kid's flea market and have a better fighter on your hands than Deadly Alliance.
Edit: Oops, my post seems to have gone missing. Sorry to the guy above.

That's why I said the original SF2, which I don't think many will claim is still among the best. Subsequent iterations like SSF2T, yes, but the original is pretty flawed by comparison. It relies as much on nostalgic value as MK2 does.
But, hey, we can also include, I don't know, King of Fighters '94 or even Eternal Champions, both of which you can get for Virtual Console. They're simple, flashy, and EC even has fatalities. I can go on if you wish.
MK is the last remnant of a time when bad fighters roamed the market, and somehow it has still managed to be successful; presumably because of its strong brand. Except you'd think by now that they would have the competency to actually craft a somewhat good game. But their strategy remains the same; ship out a shitty fighter in a package of decent graphics, good visual design, a boatload of impressive fatalities, a fuckton of unlockables, and even other games like kart racing, chess and a whole action/adventure mode to hide the fact that they're not very good at making fighting games. They're actually pretty good value for your money, if you consider how much time you can spend with them before having seen everything, which is pretty much the point of the new MK games. This still doesn't make them good fighters, though.
Edit: I totally forgot to give props to Shaolin Monks which was, for all intents and purposes, a very good game. They should make more of those.

I might be interested in this if I didn't hate MK's combo system. Where you enter the button combination and then you get to watch it play out on screen.

But I dug Deadly Alliance and if it surprises me like that did I'm all for it.

And like not a very good one.
it's still just Mortal Kombat.
At least when you put Star Wars in my Soul Calibur, I'm interested because Soul Calibur is still a good game. MK? Not so much.
Marvel vs. Capcom needs to make a comeback, though.
It doesn't help when DC is concerned, I become apathetic.

Armageddon was pretty lame, though.
Mortal Kombat is a good fighting game to play with friends. It is one of the most casual fighters around.
Also, any game that features the motion capture guy as a fighter is hilarious and awesome.

"AWESOME!"

That was pretty good game, pretty much like "Death of Superman".
Batman was the best character.
Also, I just found out of wikipedia that Blizzard developed it.
If this has Constantine in it, it's bought day one.
Oh God, it might have "little blood and no fatalities".
Also, no fatalities? Where did we hear that?
Also, this is the best thing.
