Well, it's fair to say that in general, no matchup is UNWINNABLE. Unwinnable is where at the start of the round your life goes to zero (or in Smash's case, it sends you into a pit instantly) and then the game hands the win to the other player.
It's just that the differences between characters are such that some inevitably have to work harder to win, or that some tend to have things going their way.
I do kinda wonder who Pokemon Trainer has a real disadvantage against, though... is there anybody that has an advantage over all three of his pokemon? I'm going to guess Snake, and maybe Marth, but I don't really know.
Shhhhh. We need not wake this sleeping beast again.
Okay, so I just got this game, should I add all the EST people to my friends list or what? I was going through and doing that and then realized I could only have 64 friends and stopped.
Also, I played for several hours last night, and then someone who was visiting my apartment played this morning for hours and beat like 20 challenges and unlocked some shit which I was kind of looking forward to doing (ugh he acted like he was doing me a favor!) since I've never owned any of the prequels. This makes me sad because if I reset the game I'd reset a whole bunch of progress I myself already made.
Also, what mode should I play to unlock characters?
Also, I suck at it. I'm constantly frustrated by slow characters (almost all of them are slow in my fighting game book) and their lag times and doing attacks and missing completely and being stuck in some rapid-fire sword stab, or my character not turning around when I want or turning around when I don't want or getting stuck in an attack when I thought I was close enough to an item to pick it up. How do I get better, are there a whole bunch of fancy 30-consecutive-button-press moves like in Melee?

Subspace Emissary will eventually unlock all but 3 characters. Those last three can be unlocked through stuff that gets added to SSE levels after you beat the whole thing.
Nice matches Glenn. You a good match for my Ganondorf now, you just just need to be less predictable after I flame choke you. I think I also need to work on my Yoshi, who was not putting up a great fight like my other ones. Need to take a break now, we brawled for a long while.

Yeah, thats what playing 70+ hours of online matches will do to ya. I see you've been adding new characters to your roster. I totally would have won against them if luck was on my side. :P
Also, we should do some more team matches soon. I'm sure Frostee would be up to it.
Question for you guys, since this is the most active Wii game thread:
I'm planning on buying a Wii after I get my economic stimulus check, along with this and SMG. However, I currently own a PS2, and it's damn near impossible to play on an HDTV. Even with component cables, it's blurry to the point of being nearly unplayable with text-heavy games. It's just a real poor sight. I was just wondering if the Wii handles HD better than the PS2, or if it is also ultra-blurry.

As long as you have the component cables and the game you're playing supports progressive scan (most all do), then you're set. I use my Wii with a projector and it's razor sharp.
Is there any strategy for adding stickers to SSE? I'm only like four hours in, but since I can't tell what characters I'll be playing I haven't been bothering with stickers.

I don't mean getting them so much as choosing when to "stick" them. Though I suppose if they are effectively infinite I can just put the best and most relevant ones on every character and be done with it.
Also holy shit I just did all the event matches on hard what a bitch. And it didn't unlock anything. Double-bitch.
On the plus side I'm a fuckton better at Ike after that horrible level where you have 10 minutes to kill some miniature diddy kongs before the giant one comes and it's not enough.
I assume, as so many of these topics have come and gone, that the Zelda fast-climb level has been complained about to death.

The only ones that gave me serious trouble on intense were the Norfair one, the Spear Pillar event, and Event 41.

Damn, climbing the waterfall was pretty much the bitchiest video gaming experience I've had in recent memory, and that includes beating Ninja Gaiden 2 (NES). So many infuriating things that could go wrong, I'd always jump and then the level would start moving so fast that I wouldn't land on the next platform until I was dead, or just random fuckups of up-B not working for no apparent reason or sticking me somewhere inconvenient. I basically had to learn a trick to get past every part and even then it only worked one in four times due to general randomness.
yeah single player waterfall and co-op yoshi were the ones that gave me the most trouble. I was actually disappointed how easy hard was overall.
I have to say, I was a bit surprised. I've always sucked at smash bros., but I was able to pick up where my guest (see previous page) left off with a few remaining events to complete on hard (presumably the ones he found most difficult).

Since what characters you use are decided by the game, I wouldn't suggest using stickers. But after you beat it and want to do levels on hard, put stickers on your 4 favorite characters since the effects are distributed amongst the characters you use.
Tired of suiciding into Bob-Ombs? Spear Pillar got you down? Want to destroy your Wii with a sledge hammer every time a Smash Ball spawns? Then you've come to the right place, tourneyfag!
Sunday Night Smash is a weekly tournament based on the competitive playstyle.
Sign-ups will go from now until 6 PM EST tomorrow night. Round 1 will start at 7 PM and go on until whenever.
The winner of the tournament will be responsible for providing a prize for the winner of the following week's tournament. Munkus Beaver was our last winner, so for this week that's his responsibility. The prize can be anything; a VC game, a funny picture of the player and/or their character rocking faces, an epic poem about the winner's struggle to the top, whatever. Creativity will be valued more highly than quality here.
RULES:
To sign up, tell me in the thread above, and include your Smash code.
the tournament will be single elimination.
Your custom rules must be set to the following: 3 stock, Items set to NONE, 7-minute time limit, and only the stages listed as "Neutral" in this thread turned on in your random stage select.
Every match will be best two out of three. At some point, either between fights or before the match starts, both players need to select a counterpick stage from the list of Neutral and Counterpick stages in the stage ban list thread. Both players need to select the counterpick stage of the loser of each fight.

If MK didn't have Mach Tornado, Toon Link would ruin MetaKnight. I think.
