Now my problem is how the hell do I know which attributes will affect what. e.g. what is the difference between "weapon" and "slashing" for a character that wields a sword? What kind of attacks do snake's explosives or link's boomarang count as? The manual is worthless.
My guess is that slashing applies to character-based sword attacks, and weapon applies to weapons that are item pickups (e.g., Home Run Bat, Beam Sword, Fan, etc.). Still, there's a lot of guesswork and it would have been nice to see a nice, complete, correct guide somewhere.
Weapon appears to apply to some held items as well as the melee weapons that characters possess. Slashing also applies to swords.

The only items that should ever be off are Hammers and ranged projectiles.
Almost every item is a ranged projectile, or better used as projectiles than their intended use.
See: Homerun Bat.
RE: homerun bat, most of the time there is almost no point to use it other than as a projectile. It kills you if you get hit by it at 80 and it does 20 damage per hit. In the original smash it was a beast because the swing time was much lower and the range wasn't so nerfed (like lucario for instance, you practically have to be right next to him while swinging to get hit by it). In addition, how come you can block it with your shield still intact? Another point making the swing near worthless. I might be remembering wrong, but I could have sworn in the original smash and possibly melee it broke your shield if you blocked a swing.

The bat is one of the most broken items around due to it's insane killing power from throwing it.
You have a bat on the field with a decent MK player, and shit is going down.

Anyone know what the icons on the SSE map screen mean? I have some flashing crowns and green flags.
Also, I don't really care about trophies (stickers however are a huge source of stress ), but is there any reason to play through SSE on harder modes? Should I start a new game, or just re-play the levels in my current game?
Is it just me or is SSE infuriating sometimes? I've lost count of the number of times I've been cruising along doing just fine and then bam bottomless pit, or I get bounced between spikes forever or some goddamn thing.

It's funny, if you've played Kirby SuperStar or most any Kirby game alot of the stuff in SSE will be really familiar. The auto-tracking elevators of doom being one thing.
Being 360-less for a few weeks, I called around and was able to find a Wii about 50 miles away. They said they couldn't hold them, and we got lost on the way...the drive was incredibly nerve-wrecking. Got there ten minutes before close and got my Wii (used) along with HD cables (more expensive than I thought they'd be!) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Only got to play an hour of it with friends on their TV, but Jesus, I'm fucking loving it already. It was better going into the game without knowledge of anything but the updated roster. My first Final Smash was Pokemon Trainer, so when I saw the "It's super effective!" I was overcome with giddiness. Then I was thinking to myself, "I wonder if we're getting coins for playing..." in the vein of SSBM. So I headed to the options and there's an awesome minigame now for getting new trophies. Then I get to the stickers and...they add attributes? I dropped the controller and just fell back for a minute on the couch, overwhelmed.
So this Friday I was going to pick up a couple more games. Also, I don't have Wi-Fi, but what exactly is the adapter I need to be able to get my broadband connection playable? Also, VC games can be stored on SD cards, right?
So, how do you guys go about preventing 1v1s from being complete roll-fests? I watch videos online and people only roll when it makes sense, but what do you do about someone rolling all the f'ing time?

Each character has a set speed and distance for their roll. If you learn it, you can know when to charge up a smash attack to release where they'll end up.
Or use projectile spam to take advantage of the period of vulnerability between rolls.
In any case, if they're rolling constantly, they're not attacking and you can't really wing without that.

If they're rolling to get behind you alot, then throw out a smash attack where they will end up. It works wonders on people with a habit of rolling behind you to escape attacks. It won't always work, but it's fun to punish them for being so predictable.

This is especially fun with moves that force people to choose where to roll or get up, like Ganondorf's sideB or Snake's sleeper down throw.

A lot of people like to guard and then roll into you after you spawn.
Like fucking clockwork.
Sometimes I charge an FSmash just in case, and half the time they roll right into it.

Couldn't stand the lag after my games with Munkus so I just killed myself Meta.
I was starting to get it about my second life Munkus on one of the games. You only got 17% on me before I killed you (it's usually around the 60sor 80s). A lot of my later deaths were due to input lag for easy ledge-guarding. I think I might be on the up and up.
I still need to practice against you more though, but the lag just makes it so not worth it.

Well, understand I was severely gimped by that lag too. I've stepped up my MK game recently by incorporating 'mach locks' into my arsenal, and I wasn't able to mix it up with locks and kill moves while fighting you.
I like the term mach locks because is sounds nice, but it's just when I get 3 or more mach tornados going on a person. It's really easy to do if you start the first tornado under a platform, and then rise them up through the platform. If you get under a larger character, it's easy as hell to do. I've locked in a pretty good DK with 5 locks before.

My roommate and I have taken to no item duals. It just feels so horribly cheap sometimes when like a bazooka drops down on your head, and a lot of the final smashes may as well be win buttons.
