open up your registry editor, go to Edit->Find, and type DiabloIICD
it should bring you to the entry DiabloIICD REG_SZ
it should look something like that, right click on it select modify, and change the value data to the letter of the virtual drive that has your d2 image

Enigma-using Summoners are worse. You can at least dodge and outrun a Bone Spirit and sidestep a spear. A Summoner can simply teleport onto you and let his minions hit you 20 times before you can even move.

Oh, and I just remembered another class that absolutely destroys bone necros in PVP: Chargadins. The bastards move so fast they glitch on everyone elses' screens.

You really should buy the expansion anyways, considering how much it improves the original game.
It just adds new classes right? I'm not really interested in playing assassin or druid so I'd be cool with the vanilla as long as I could play with LoD people.

It also adds a doubled stash size, charms, runes, runewords, massive numbers of uniques, new item modifiers, and elite-level equipment. It's definitely worth it, and it's only $20 to boot.
The best army necro build I've tried is basically max out skeletons, then skeleton mastery, then raise corpse explosion to whatever level you're happy with (I like 10-15), then do whatever. I like to max mages after that.
As you get points in skeletons, you want to get a few other skills as well: You want to get a few points in amp damage at the start to double your skeletons' damage, a point in corpse explosion early as possible, a point in all the prereqs for revived (and then a point in revived at 30), a point in summon resist, and a point in attract and decrepify.
Single point golems are quite strong with average +skills, as are revived. Decrepify is a must against act bosses, and attract is for dealing with those goddamn ranged monster packs. Fuck you, burning archers! And fuck you, gloams! And especially fuck you, act 5 spear cats with 100% pierce and cold damage!
It goes without saying that you NEED a staff of teleport at the very least. Enigma runeword armor is the ultimate item for this type of necro, but Jah and Ber are hard to come by, so a charged staff is a good temporary solution.
