And yet, no one whines about how SC2 looks to be virtually identical to SC1. Why? Because it would be goddamn stupid. Like whining about how different Monopoly editions don't come with radical innovations, or why the rules for football haven't changed in years. Comes a point when you've made a game whose essentials are just so good a fit that any major departure is going to make the game worse, at least among its core players.

I'm more excited for DoW2 due to the significant changes to game mechanics that I think look quite promising. Of course, you don't hear people saying this that often simply because we usually don't care enough to wander into a thread where people are gushing over it just to say we're not interested. I honestly steeled myself for something horrible when I got to the Great Maze, but it wasn't bad at all.
Repeated stages, easy to get lost, fighting evil versions of allies, aimless walking, stripped of your previous progress (unlocked characters to fight as), and refighting all the bosses you'd all ready beat. All old tricks used to artificially increase the length of the game. Old, vile tricks.
I really didn't notice.
Then again, as a Mega man fan the old "refighting bosses" thing has no effect. :P

Ok - so I know I'm a touch late to the crap on Yahtzee or crap on the Yahtzee crappers party - but I just was able to watch this week's video and here's my take:
It's a mildly unfair assessment of Smash Bros.
I don't consider Yahtzee to be a game reviewer in the strictest sense. I consider him to be basically the host of a weekly roast of the most popular games of the time. Just like the host of roast, he takes one or two main character flaws and exploits them and takes them to a comical level for humor.
Let's say you were roasting R Kelly - you wouldn't say "Hey! I hear you like 'em young." because that's not funny. However, if you said "To get into tonight's show you had to be over 14, not because of adult language but because if you're under 14 there's a chance R Kelly might try to bend you over and fuck you like a goat herder" that might be funnier. Now we all know that R Kelly isn't out fucking 8 year olds up the ass - but that doesn't matter - it's a known character flaw that he likes the young'ns so you exagerate.
The problem is that it only works when you're taking an accurate complaint and exagerating it. Unfortunatly, with Smash Bros, the button mashing complaint simply isn't valid and except for the smash attacks the particle effects complaint isn't valid. Frankly, on the button mashing thing I know because I tried playing online and had my ass handed to me by much better players.
His humor is best for me when he reviews a game I like because he takes those few complaints that I might have and takes them to a next higher level. This one missed with me because I just don't see some of the basic flaws he seems to see.
He is spot on about the Sonic unlock though - that was a pain in the ass and really pissed me off.
