I'm trying to think of a sport in which the crowd reaction is far better than the actual event. You know, something I can compare this to. Oh, wait... it's not really a sport but maybe, just maybe... The Jerry Springer Show.

This thread went south fast, but, on the actually somewhat surprising side, not just because of fans taking it too seriously. Posts consisting entirely of "Hahahahah" really don't help anything.

Played Brawl at a friends house after a birthday party a little while ago. Didnt have a clue what was going on and I could barely keep track of my character on the screen with all of the crazy shit going on. And I do disagree with the button mashing becuase god damn it I tried mashing buttons and still couldnt get Samus to do anything useful. Quit after about 15 minutes.

is this one of those cases where people are mad because he's making fun of a game they like instead of a game they don't care about like he's supposed to
Super Saiyan Mario and Snake at the end made me giggle far too much.
The only thing I disagreed with was his opinion of fighting games in general. Granted, given his opinion of playing games with other people, I shouldn't have been surprised but it did surprise me with how little regard he had for the genre. While luck is certainly an element in competitive Smash Bros. play, I think that to state button mashers will always have a chance of beating someone who knows what they're doing in all fighters is simply preposterous. The existance of games like Virtua Fighter 5, Street Fighter II and III, and King of Fighters pretty conclusively prove him wrong.
On the other hand, for someone who doesn't go really in-depth with fighters (i.e. Yahtzee), I can't say I'm too surprised. Explaining fighting games to someone who doesn't "get" them is something I stopped doing a long time ago, because people are set in their ways.
When he said 'button mashing can beat someone who knows what theyre doing', I don't imagine he meant it could beat the best players around. I think he meant that someone who has no idea which button does what can beat someone who knows the buttons but hasn't necessarily mastered it. So this guy knows how to kick, punch and throw but could still easily lose to someone who has no idea what the A button does.
But that's not as inflammatory, so I'm probably wrong.
I bet you Charlie Brooker loves the shit out of Brawl
Did he include it on his list though? If not, I'm gonna have to write him an angry email and link both my friends to his site so they can see for themselves.
Mum and dad will be livid.
Funny review, but the review part wasn't funny; only his emotion in regards to people who will take it so negatively and the self deprecation. He really needs to actually care/feel passionate (in a negative way) about the game for the review itself to be funny though; the parts where he talks about the game were pretty soulless. Still, I chuckled.
How is Yahzee any different from any other reviewer.
It is impossible to provide an objective review of subjective media.
Just because he doesn't like said media doesn't mean he isnt a reviewer. Many of the points he raises in his videos are not only true but cut deep into the truth of the matter, things which the fans of the game don't want to admit/dont want to become commonly accepted knowledge.
It's the Gerstmann 8.8 all over again.
Times like these are when I feel embarassed to be a gamer when so many gamers act like Rami.
Could you clarify? You've singled me out and yet the rest of your post does not apply to me at all. At no point did I claim he wasn't a reviewer, I provided some evidence that a couple of his points were false (which many agreed with) while agreeing with his other ones that were true. And in my first post I expressed a larger feeling of negativity towards Brawl than Yahtzee himself did, so I don't really fit the 'fans' category either.

My inbox overflowed with blood-curdling death threats, and it was all very unfunny indeed - a bit like recounting a rude joke at a dinner party, only to be told you hadn't recounted a joke at all, but molested the host's children, and suddenly everyone was punching you and you weren't going to get any pudding. I've had better weekends.

Brooker is so fucking great.
Also, I guess my Rami hate was undeserved. Still, this thread has seen better days.

To be honest there's only so much you can do with the thread topic. Either you descend into anarchic fanboy rants and vitriol spewing all round, or you don't. At least most of us here can make fun of that.

That shit is not funny.
You think this thread is bad. The gaf thread has about 3 bannings already since the thing was posted.
I would consider this a tranquil and relaxed environment compared to the rest of t'internet.
One thing is for sure though, hate it or love it, ZP is getting the escapist a shitstorm of traffic.
Has anyone here gone to that site for any other reason but Yahtzee?
PA: Where video games=religion.
That site has things besides Yahtzee? Who knew?
It used to be pretty decent tech news.
now it's 'that site with zero punctuation on it'
British accent.
They're the same accent. Admit it.
I claim it is an American accent on the grounds that I sent you a nice gift.
I can assure you they do.

sorry, I forgot to close my sarcasm tag
Isn't there some portmanteau term that we can use to lump the two together and mean one or the other?

oh okay
all is forgiven
and also pretty dead-on
But that's not as inflammatory, so I'm probably wrong.
I might even like the game.
Who knows?

so he did
can't blame him, if somebody asked me to do a zelda review I'd do pretty much the same thing
I agree, but I think the actual "review" and humor suffers when he does that. Kinda one of his worst reviews.
Still, I guess the reaction of people (here especially) more than makes up for the comedic let-down

The "Ehhhhhh" part had my co workers looking at me funny I was laughing so hard.
I'm so "That Guy"
Is this so wrong?
I kinda enjoy being "That Guy".
