So this is for discussing some of your favorite IDM artists.
If you are unfamiliar with the term, wiki it

Now, I am just an old fart, but IDM very broadly defines a lot of music that I would have called ambient and even industrial back in the day, but a bunch of high brows somehow termed it IDM because they were all over Aphex Twins cock, but whatever.
So, in the IDM genre, I like stuff like Boards of Canada, Proem, The Flashbulb, Arovane, Chica and the Folder, Saycet and so on. There are tons of really good IDM artists out there, it's just about wading through a bunch of stuff to find what you like. A lot is really chilled out, or some can be really aggressive glitchy kind of in your face type stuff. I guess I am partial to the chilled out stuff because of my love for ambient music (ooh, another thread idea, someone make an indie thread you dumb faggots).
So if you like some IDM stuff, let's hear about it and some of your favorite bands. I am always looking for new stuff to enjoy.

i fucking love you right now
so so so much
they are incredibly overrated
booooooooring
suck
except 2 or 3 songs
stuff like boards of canada, flashbulb, autechre, future sound of london (so many <3s), leftfield (even more <3s)
but there are times where i just have to listen to the hard stuff, like venetian snares, aphex, kid 606
IDM
in the sunshine
so is trying to make your own choice of music look more intelligent by bashing the more popular choices of similar fashion
i wasn't trying to look my own choice of music look more intelligent
daft punk sux
blurrrrgh
braindance is a much better term
Steam: YOU FACE JARAXXUS| Twitch.tv: CainLoveless
do you like the
happy hardcore
simon posford
in all of his forms and aliases
not really. that shit is a little too upbeat. it's like carnival music. the only person i know that really does like it is this german girl who's brain has been fried by too many drugs.
pfft psh
(boards of canada)
electronica is full of shitty genre names
you get used to it
or do what i do, and ignore them for the most part
not the genres
you are pretty bad go away i hate you
i was at this party a couple weeks ago and this girl gained control of the stereo, and that was all she played. i wanted to hang myself
it's just so . . . good
I can only handle so much Venetian Snares before I'm like, yeah ok . . . NEXT
Autechre is good too, but I would be hesitant to recommend them as a first choice to introduce someone to IDM. Autechre is very liberal with their beats (ha, I like that, I'm going to say stuff like Arcade Fire is very liberal with their emo, hahah, nah, really I like Arcade Fire, it's just funny)
anyway, not that I have something against Daft Punk, but Daft Punk is very much "formed" and "structured" I guess is how I would describe it, whereas I tend to think of most IDM as very organic and less reliant on conventional form. It sounds silly, but if you listened to them one after the other, i think you'd get the idea.
And Skinny Puppy is very much industrial, but again, here you run into what I would call early influential stuff, where much of what Skinny Puppy has done in the past, even back to Bites I see as heavily influencing a lot of what is IDM today. Even the latest NIN album has some heavy IDM touches to it.

it's my favourite too, although the campfire headphase rocks hard
i also love geogaddi but it's in a separate vein from the other two
also: boards of canada is the best insomniac music
especially when used simply to make yourself look better than somebody else
