OK so Evemon officially hates me. I've renewed my API key about half a dozen times now, cleared the cache, reinstalled, re-downloaded, tried the full API key... the works. I open Evemon and my character names appear, but it can't seem to connect. There's no wallet balance, portrait, corp, and of course skills. The little pizza-circle thingy in the top-right just keeps flashing.
Any ideas!? I feel like I've tried everything.
your account needs to be active for your api key to work
Yes. And who wants to participate in a friendly wager? I'll put the main post on our mrchi forums, but essentially, it's going to pertain to what made shift groinstab quit. Post your theory and the amount you will pay to whoever guesses correctly. You won't be sending money anywhere, because he may never return, but if he does, I'll do my best to find out and announce the winner (if it's at all possible), and send the winner your pledge.
So, some of you may not know shift groinstab. Some of you may have been around to hear some of his more horrific stories he related to corp chat. With his last post sadly, he announced he was leaving for an indefinite amount of time. I took the liberty of bolding what I find to be the funny parts.
Hey folks. Sorry to get here so late, but I just about had to flee the state to get out of a bad situation, and this was the soonest I was able to post, well, anything. I've come damn close to leaving the country to avoid some outstandingly atrocious personal issues, and as such, haven't had the opportunity or resources to get back on Eve. I'm not sure when I'll manage to get back on, if ever. Yes, jailtime may be an option. I'm terribly sorry to inform the lot of you this way, but kicking me may be in the best interests of the corp, as my account has lapsed, and I am accruing debt just by idling. Once again, I am sorry to inform so late, but I had just one chance to get out clean. Wish me luck.
Random question, sort of. Completely random in the context of the previous couple posts, which intrigue me...
How much has the new expansion changed/allowed for the idea of more casual play in non 0.0 space?
While I'm probably not the best to answer this having just been a paying customer for 45 days or so, I'm enjoying 0.0 tremendously. I have done 5 trial accounts over the past few years and really never got into it, even playing constantly during those trials. Mainly I was always working hard to get more money or trying to find something worthwhile to do without getting ganked in some .4 system.
With Merchi in 0.0, I'm really having a great time and playing super-casually. Money flows and there is always something going on with the corp that I can jump in or bow out of after a couple hours playtime.
As far as expansion goes, it added the factional warfare. That's pretty fun and somewhat rewarding with all the loyalty points purchases and getting to blow up other players without a security rating hit. But the War is much more interesting because it involves politics and powerstruggles with real people and not just some NPC story.

Right, I spent about a year in 0.0 overall. It's fun, but since I was a combat pilot on gate camp duty, I found that four hour stretches waiting for a fight would get... boring. I was wondering if the new expansion really did allow for faster, easier PvP combat in non 0.0. If I came back, I don't think I'd want to go through the long process of being reassigned a role and having to regain trust, etc. in PURE.
Well, the new story aspect of it is really great. And there are tons more people PvP'ing in high sec now. Full fleets of people are PvPing the storyline that formerly just ran missions. So yeah, I'm thinking that you can always find a quick fight now.

Single player space games could be, and have been done a thousand times better than eve
Isn't that basically what we're saying? That if you took the world EVE is set in, and set single player game in it, you could create a better game scenario for the one player than you could for hundreds of thousands.
why not go back into corp chat and post more links.
I really can't see the EvE universe working single player. Can you imagine it? you'd have to start in a ship with a miner, mine a bunch of rocks, refine them, build a component, rinse and repeat.
What amazes me most about this particular MMORPG game is this game can be *completely* different from one person to the next. I met a guy at a wedding, someone said something about me playing EvE so he came over to introduce himself. He has some 56m skillpoint character that as far as I can tell has never left Rens area. He was explaining how he 'owns' all ammo sales 6 jumps in any direction from Rens, buys anything people puts up and re-lists at his price, and how fun it was. Then his wife drug him away so I didn't get to continue the conversation.
I can't imagine that being entertaining compared to gate camping/chasing down people similar to what we did in Torinnos a few months ago, that was a lot of fun the variety of ships that we wiped from the map. more fun than any single player game can be. With most AI still to this day you figure out the one thing they don't do well and kill them with it. At least with people behind it they'll be just as crazy, but do some really insane things.
that is to say, if eve was single player.
Go find Privateer, or Privateer II. There you go, single player Eve

So I'm really starting to get into EvE and I'm a huge PA fan... PAX 08 will be my fourth year in attendance. I've read the requirements of what I need to do to get into the Corp here and I'd like to apply to join. I'm currently in 0.5 space but will be wandering out to your 0.0 space tomorrow night. I'm good friends with a current member of yours, Alrec Lanton (not sure how to spell his characters last name), and I know he can attest for me not being a dick (as Mr. Wheaton put it).
My characters name is Unin Lole. I've got an ORE Retriever and am up to Foreman 5 and am excited to supply many-a-metal to the cause. In a past life (the one on Star Wars Galaxies) I was the mayor of Halfwayfar on Tattoine (Bria) and grew the city from a couple of people grouped together on dunes, to a 160 citizen living city. Beyond that I ran a large mineral harvesting business and supplied ore/metal to all the local guilds.
Anywho, if you've got any question for me, I'd be happy to answer.
I hope this little note of mine helps me from getting blown to bits when I get out to your 0.0 space tomorrow night.

If Merch is anything like every other corporation/alliance holding territory ever, I would not enter their 0.0 until they tell you to. The classic phrase is, "If you're not blue, you're goo." Doesn't matter even if the name is familiar, usually you shoot first and ask questions later. It's the only way to keep your territory secure.
Do not, under any circumstances, fly into Goonspace until you have applied and been accepted. They will take you down. You probably won't even make it to Epros. Shoot first, ask questions later.

I have set up a welcome party at L4X, they should escort you all the way to E-PR0.
So I'm loving the trial, my dreams of multi-player Privateer/Elite are realized. Did the tutorial and the first little story arc, got a Navitas, did some mining, picked up a couple 75mm railguns, armor plating, and took a level 1 combat mission. Got raped by my target, could only put a scratch in his shields before I had to jump out. I guess my question is, should I train up more combat skills (don't have many, since I picked mining background) or focus on getting a cruiser?

You're totally right. I should have been more clear with my intentions. I plan on heading out there as soon as (and if) I get let in at somepoint. I guess I was being overly optimistic thanks for the warning though, I'll stay out till I'm asked in.

What do I do guys?
Do you have salvaging trained?
Yes
re: an alt
How much fun can I have with an alt when I don't want to take training time away from my main?
You could follow around somebody who's ratting and salvage after them (assuming of course they aren't salvaging their own wrecks). That's what I did until I was able to start ratting on my own (easier spawns in a drake, then raven).
I Salvaged someone's junk in two belts last night for about 3 mil isk in about 15 minutes. Also, 1 Bistot is about 6k isk. Even a Rifter's small cargohold is like a quarter mil isk for 10 minutes. If you need a Salvager I, I'll gladly give to you.
I'm space poor. But I'll be able to buy a BC or BS by the end of the weekend and start ratting just with this little stuff I've been doing all week.
A Minmatar alt, properly created, can fly a pretty mean Rifter from moment one. Hit up some .4-.6 systems and rat or bump haulers and demand ransom. You don't even have to point them, just a threat and a bump will get you a couple mil probably. It's hilarious.

I did that jokingly to an Osprey pilot the other day, I flew up on him in my Deimos drones out after targeting him and in local I typed "this is a stickup, gimmie all your ores!" he replied "serious?" I was joking though so I replied back "not really I was only using a candybar in place of a gun anyways"

I'd recommend training up your frig skills. Until you know what you want to do, that is. Amongst other things, if you join a corp and want to PvP, you'll probably be relegated to tackling since you won't have much PvP power, and in that case being GOOD at frigate work can make it a bit more fun.
I trained straight into battlecruisers when I started, which was dumb. Since then I've become a battleship beast, but it's taken awhile.
Hell yeah they're going to heavy handed change everything about the way the game works
gilrain you're a fucking empire faggot too, anyone that likes these changes is retarded and has no idea about balance. Some of it is needed, yes, but not LOL NOW YOU GO HALF AS FAST AS BEFORE
I like all of their goals, feel they've got some good ideas to achieve them, and fully expect a lot of what they've proposed to need revision and tweaking. My focus has always been on small-gang combat in 0.0, and I think this is a step in the right direction. I disagree that it will promote blob warfare, though it won't reduce it, either. It'll make the current levels of small-gang warfare more fun and more tactical, IMO.
MWD > AB, always, has always been dumb. MWD should have a risk/reward mechanic, and this one makes a lot of sense. The other changes are mostly just smoothing the speed curve between ship types. That's a good thing, too.
Just my opinion, though. I don't call the shots. If you hate it, shout at CCP. :P

I've tried that, and it's more obvious now than ever that they're catering to the carebears and it's annoying. I don't even fly nano much, I fly tank sacs and pulse 130k apocs more than anything, and this change is still stupidly heavyhanded and abhorrent.
Too much to change at once imo, allow me to commit my own gay retarded opinion to the internet and say I'd like them to lower the fitting reqs on heavy neuts a little and do some kind of webs not affecting speed you get from afterburners jiggery
Oh and vorick next time you're fighting that vaga in your raven, shoot about 6 volleys then unlock, if you're lucky he will immediately slow down and they'll all hit at once :^: Otherwise fit a neut, he's not cap boosting
The biggest problem here is that CCP let the nano age go on for way too long. It was obvious when the nanomach's and domi's were running around that speed fittings were going to dominate the landscape, and yet they still allowed a year or more to pass with players committing training time and isk towards hac hulls and mods.
This continued despite the fact that speed had a huge dampening effect on the amount of small gang combat going on in Eve, and broke several aspects of fleet combat and racial balance. Hopefully, this change will ultimately be for the better.
I predict most nanowhores will switch over to force recons which will still be incredibly annoying, but are at least limited by low dps and poor buffer tanks.
Agreed. The doomsayers say this is the end of piracy, blah blah blah, but that's not likely. The nanopilots complain because they've gotten used to being able to solo larger ships and still disengage without risk if the fight goes against them.
Yes, I know nanoships can be killed, but only by certain combinations of ships with dedicated anti-nano fits, if the planets align properly.
And CCP admits being able to completely outrun missiles or drones is a result of speeds far faster than they ever intended. It's called speed tanking, not speed invulnerability.
