That's not at all worthy of comment. Not even slightly. Everyone else just pointed out that the debate was canceled. Apparently Ambinder has amazing connections inside the Obama camp to find out the real scoop as to why. o_O

That's not that much of a stretch of a reason, honestly, and it is worthy of comment--especially if she beats expectations.

EDIT: Of course, you might be saying that we should be able to comment on it after all, in which case...yeah. We should.

Which expectations? Honestly Hillary manages to beat expectations because they slide around so much its hard to fail.

To put in perspective - I work for a global corporation. In order to balance out the number of days off that everyone in other countries gets, every 7 years, we get a 2 month paid sabbatical.
2 months every 7 years comes down to about 9 days per year. Except saying "9 days paid vacation per year" sounds less impressive than "2 months paid sabbatical every 7 years".

Yeah, but put another way, all the other countries get twice as many holidays as we do.

My point on it was honestly that it's a huge amount of conjecture he'd get called on if he allowed comments, but he closed them down due to being accused of making any article pro-Clinton. He's pretty notorious at this point for adding something that looks like a backstabbing move by Obama to any and all articles. Earlier he had one about fundraising and cited the numbers everyone had in their accounts, and ends it on "but what if he loses PA, then will Obama have more money?! Where will his donors be then!?"

I dunno, I can get behind the idea that we have too goddamn many federal holidays as-is, whether I agree with it or not. If I was going to compile a list of federal holidays, it would look like this:

    Presidents Day
    Fourth of July
    Christmas
Memorial Day/Veterans Day (basically a single day to honor troops)

That's it. No MLK day, no Cesar Chavez day, no Labor Day. The idea of creating special days on which government employees get 8 hours of free pay all willy nilly is sort of lame to me. I'd only do Christmas because the holiday is so large that everyone takes off to celebrate it anyway.

Now, if McCain opposed MLK day but supported other similar federal holidays, then he's a bit of a fucko.

edit: That said, the idea of declaring a day as a "Hey, let's remember this cool dude but you don't get a paid holiday" day is cool.
I'd like to get rid of all of those, and just have 5 days of paid floating holidays we can use whenever the fuck we want.
I think the idea is that those holidays are not simply paid vacations, but also commemorate things that you as a country should be commemorating: your leaders, your nation, and your veterans. And Christmas is so damn popular that it would be impractical not to have it as a holiday.

I just like the idea of a day at the beginning/end of the year to celebrate the end/beginning of good/bad things. (that was a lot of "/"s in one sentence).

I have a friend who's father worked for the US Army in Germany. He got all German and American holidays off, and also the standard 6 weeks of vacation experienced Germans get (he was German).

EDIT: I would want to keep "election day" on a Tuesday, or possibly make it a Wednesday, if it were a holiday, to hopefully prevent people from going on a short vacation instead of voting.

Obama's got a pretty harsh robocall that attacks Clinton for her vote on confiscation of guns in an emergency. It's a policy issue and I think it is a good way to attack her, but it is a little harder than what we've normally seen out of him.

This does seem like a good way to suppress her gun vote, as that should sound pretty unconstitutional to them.

Cafferty just asked what it'll take for McCain to catch up in fundraising, since the $81 million in public financing is more or less guaranteed to get dwarfed by whatever disgusting number Obama would end up raising.

My answer: "A ski mask, a pump-action rifle, and a poorly-spelled note ordering the teller to focus on the $10's and $20's."

I mean, I think it is a good issue to hit her on and I come down on his side on it. The method of delivery seems a bit underhanded, but it is fair game. But this definitely is an old politics sort of thing that he has decried and not engaged too much in, what with the last minute dumbed down robocall.
