A new and popular mode called Zone mode has become a hit with fans. The goal of this mode is to drive as many laps as possible on a track while the speed of the player's ship is slowly increasing; when the ship's energy shield is destroyed, the game is over.

It's never been popular in this house, I spit on zone mode. Goddamn Moa Therma, constantly getting to level 28 then crashing and burning two levels away from gold.
I keep accidentally doing barrel rolls while trying to adjust my ship mid-air and I always feel stupid afterwards because it KILLS my shields.

I suspect I would have won if I'd disabled weapons, I always lead early on but those damn weapons catch me out.

One of the few games where I came in 3rd(Chernova Project or something) I was gambling way too much on weapons and coming up with nothing... if I had decided to use the speed pads instead I probably would have caught up to you guys.

Which racer do you guys prefer? I usually stick with AG Systems or Assegai unless I need something specific like speed. Also, vehicle stats... Speed, handling, and shield I get but what does 'thrust' measure?

For time trials i've been finding that the piranha and icaras are really the only things with enough speed to get me anywhere near gold..
For all Venom and Flash time-trial/speed-lap races, I recommend either the Piranha or the Icaras, whichever you're more comfortable with. With Rapier speeds, I've found Assegai works pretty well, with Icaras a close second.
Also, just won a 12 race tournament woooo!! The final race was all set to be a rip-snorter. Myself and two other guys were only separated by 2 points, so it was really whoever won the last one walked off with the trophy.

Also, FUCK the mountain course.
And, it's been over 24 hours and my record speed lap scores haven't shown up on the global records. I got what should have been the #3 time for Speed Lap - Phantom - Moa Therma last night, and it hasn't updated on the global record yet. The global record *has* been updated since then, as the time I got should be #6 now.

I was about to start playing, but then I realized I am also an adult and I needed to do things like iron uniforms and clothes and put up laundry. Maybe in half an hour... LIFE! :indignantshakeyfist:
So I've been playing the game a bunch this weekend, and on a whim decided to get off the analog stick and use the d-pad. It controls so much better, or maybe it's just the muscle memory of playing way too much XL/2097 coming back. Also switched over to interior view, which works a bunch better as well except for some of the tracks where there's loops and you basically come out of some of them totally blind.
So are playing EU/UK players/servers really laggy (from the US) or is it tolerable?
