My computer slower than normal.

Like, way slower, in fact think I've watched water evaporate faster than this. It slows down in my games, just surfing the net and hell even when I turn the computer on, after it automatically loads up Windows Live it just gets slow as molasses. And yes, it has run all of these tasks before just fine, the only programs that are new are Dawn of War: Platinum Edition and Winamp, the latter I deleted soon after thinking it might have been the problem. Bad download or something, if I knew what I was doing I wouldn't be asking for help.

It's still responsive though, if I hit the windows key it will still open up the task bar, it just takes slower than normal. A lot slower. Normally something like that, even while running like The Sims 2 or something it doesn't take more than a second or two but now it's much much slower. I haven't timed it but I know well enough that with this computer it's definitely not normal. It doesn't even load up Windows Task Manager on time, it waits until it's done flipping out to load it up.

I've run anti-virus and spyware programs to try to fix this, but they didn't work.
To be honest I haven't tried to defragment or anything like that, cause it takes hours and I don't like to sleep with my computer on, it keeps me awake so I keep procrastinating about that. I'm not sure it would do any good if I tried though, I know that computers slow down if you don't defragment like you should but this is much different.

I've got Windows XP, about 300GB of memory, 2GB of RAM, my video card is an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT and my processor runs at about 2.33GHz.
Not sure what else you need to know.

EDIT: I don't think I was clear before, it's freezing, but unlike your typical freeze it's still responsive just slower than hell.

Uh, yeah, try that defrag if the spyware and anti-virus didn't show anything.

    Or did those programs break?

Tell me, oh broken computer. If the spyware and anti-virus programs aren't working, your computer is probably loaded with spyware and viruses.

If they ran fine, and turned up nothing, likely the defrag will help, unless you've got a component actually going out on your computer.

Also, how full is your harddrive? If it doesn't have much space left that could be a problem as well.

Sorry for not being clear, I ran them and they found nothing.
And it's hardly full, I got like 211GB of space left.

Hm, then I'd try running the defrag. Otherwise, you might have a power supply going out... or some spyware that the scanners didn't find.

What are you using to scan for spyware? Ad-aware? Spybot?

Also, could you take a picture of your task manager? If not, you can run through the list of .exes (just type the name of the process, like 'explorer.exe' into google and it'll show you within the first few results what that process belongs to) that are on there to figure out if anything is running that shouldn't be. And with so few programs installed, it should just be Windows things.

    I used spybot.

I actually have one saved from a few days ago, I don't think anything is changed though. I showed it to someone else for some advice but nothing has changed. This issue has been around for about a week. I'm just terribly lazy and way too tolerant of slow computers.

It's huge by the way, and in no way just a few programs. D:

I'm pretty sure 55 processes is a WEE bit too many

run a HijackThis and post the log

Get rid of Roxio Easy CD Creator (which is a piece of shit), Registry Booster (which doesn't do anything) and TrendMicro PC-Cillin (which is a good program but is known to cause slowdown issues). A good replacement would be BitDefender or Nod32, which are small and quiet and relatively cheap.

While it's true that 55 processes is a lot... there doesn't look to be any strange processes running on there. Hooray for http://www.processlibrary.com/.

You might actually have a hardware issue, but I'd try uninstalling some programs that run that you don't use. Out of the three computers I have running with TrendMicro, I haven't seen any slowdowns related to it.

Go through that list with the process library link, and see what you can bear to part with, anything that you don't use on a regular basis. Even if you don't uninstall it, you can go into the settings for the program and tell it to stop running constantly in the background if it's unnecessary.

And yes, please post a HijackThis log. :)

The first thing to do would be to check your processor utilization. From the screenshots you've displayed, it does not appear that one particular executable is consuming your cpu.

The next step would be to check memory usage.

If none of those are the culprit, chances are it's disk I/O.

    Follow these steps: http://members.cox.net/kidblitz/xpcleanup.htm

In your case, specifically steps 3 through 5.

I agree that defragmenting is a good idea, and if the noise really bothers you, wait until a weekend or some time when you don't have to be up in the morning to get it done.

Well, for example, I have 52 processes running, and I'm running a lot of things. >.> IM client, two browser windows, Anti-virus, winamp (And numerous other little things to monitor this or that).

A lot of the things on the process list that the OP posted can be shut off or uninstalled as they're useless.

If you're running 55 processes on a relatively idle computer, then yeah, it can be a bunch.

defrag, set it up to run before you go to work/classes/coffee with friends/whatever if you can't sleep with the computer on
also look at something like registry mechanic, helps clean up the junk in your computer. empty recycle bin, clear temp files, etc as well

if you have another hard drive, install that with a fresh install and some games to see if the slowdown issues occur, that right there will tell you if it's hardware of software.

How long has it been since the last time you reformatted?

After this post I'll get rid of that Roxio program and that registry booster (which was only a trial anyways), I deleted that trendmicro thing earlier though.
I did defrag my harddrive while I as at work today. So far things are good, but I know that it would freeze up at any time after start up so I'm not excited. My computer was bought in October so maybe the second time? It's something that I tend to procrastinate a lot on, since I'm used to defragmenting something much older. Whether or not it does though I will update.
I did get rid of worthless crap, like my temp files and what was in my recycle bin a few days ago so they're pretty clean.
I don't have another hard drive.
Uh what else.. oh I've always seemed to have too many processes running, even shortly after buying this computer. I haven't the slightest clue why so I'll check google to find out what those belong to.

Well, if it's a pre-built computer, there's always bound to be lots of bloatware crap on the computer that you don't need. If it's under warranty and keeps slowing down despite the defrag and scans (I don't see anything on the HijackThis log that looks bad, really), then take that thing in for warranty work, especially if it's free. :P
