The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Interplay has revealed that the first of its brand revivals will be Earthworm Jim.
The fourth instalment in the series is little more than concept at the moment and has no dates or platforms associated with it.
However, Earthworm Jim creator Douglas TenNapel will be on hand as a creative consultant, while simultaneously developing an animated feature film to help expand the brand.
Earthworm Jim first wriggled in front of our eyes in 1994 on the Megadrive. This space-faring worm in control of a powerful human-shaped suit had to platform his way across planets and zap baddies with his ray-gun. Its tongue-in-cheek charm soon spawned numerous sequels, including one on N64 and one on GameBoy Colour.
TenNapel was also responsible for an Earthworm Jim cartoon series on the telly that ran from 1995 to 1996.
Interplay revealed that Earthworm Jim would be one of its revival targets in early April, alongside Dark Alliance, Descent and MDK brands.
The publisher hopes to return to former glory by using the money gained from selling the Fallout IP to restart its internal development engine.
This was annoucned in another thread with some of the other interplay stuff...can't remember but there were 3 other franchises they were bringing back. This game is good enough still to get it's own thread

Well in that thread they just mentioned plans in the future to revisit old franchises, this announcement is that they have started work on Earthworm Jim 4 and that TenNapel is on board.

The creator of Earthworm Jim.
He also did the voice acting for Jim in the games, and wrote the cartoon series.

Edit: They should totally make this game an FPS.
He also directed and acted in SockBaby. He's the tall bad guy at the end.
So awesome. EWJ was one of my favorite video game characters..
I hope this goes well because I would LOVE to see Descent, Freespace, and MDK return. MDK with new technology? Would be so awesome.
If you haven't played MDK yet, MDK2 is pretty sweet and only 100pts on Goozex. (PS vs of MDK is also 100pts, but MDK for PC is 350)
If you don't have Goozex, check it out. You get a free 100pts and 1 trade credit just for signing up (free copy of MDK2) and if you do any trading, we'll both get 100pts and 1 trade credit after your first trade.

Woah, they're actually trying to make a good game on this one. Didn't expect that from Interplay.

Earthworm Jim 1 is freaking awesome, but "what the heck!?" still gives me nightmares. It's incredibly huge length and that elevator music playing over and over and over and over.
I have serious doubts about this game even making it out. Interplay is not at all the size that it used to be. It's basically the president of the company and a couple of other guys working out of his house.
Earthworm Jim, he’s such a groovy guy Earthworm Jim, he rockets through the sky
Cruising through the Universe, having lots of fun,
Here comes Earthworm Jim you know that he's the mighty one
"Look out!" La La La La , La La La La, La La La . . .
That underwater bubble stage was one of the biggest gaming hurdles in my young life.
Earthworm Jim 3D was the biggest let down of all time.
I'd like to see this game have super stylized living-comic quality cell shading. Where everything looked like a really dark ink drawing. Something along the lines of Okami, but less thick lines, and more gritty detail.
Ultraviolence!
The 2D games always struck me as very dark, I'd love to see that style transfer over to a 3D world. Earthworm Jim 3D had some good ideas overall, and I kind of wish I hadn't traded it in, but oh dear god it was shit compared to anything else of that era, and especially to the previous Jim games.

I loved that first game forever.
But I don't remember 2 or 3d.
2, you owe it to yourself to play 2.
3D... not so much.
3D never happened.
Whatever happened to the PSP EWJ?
Did selling Fallout really make all that much cash?
Fixed that typo for ya
Thanks.
I hope they keep 4 2D, or if it is 3D a heavily stylised cel shaded look.

These games were pretty good.
Well, the first two anyway.
And he makes bizarre comics!

Needless to say, I'm excited.
Well I'll admit that I did love the series when I was a kid. EWJ and The Tick were staples for goofy humour.
If they've got EWJ's creator on as creative consultant then at least I know they're trying.
Honestly though, I'm waiting for a good Descent game. 3D vomit inducing zero-G shenanigans FTW.
And you can watch them even today without having to check whether someone is seeing you watching these two.
That was a long sentence.

EWJ1 kicked my ass, and I never got very far at all

I'd want it to be faster than that, but I could see that working, I guess.
Now make another Neverhood sequel.
How about another Army Men.
I can still imagine the EWJ4 sound when you hurt yourself perfectly.. And those damn crows.
